Odisha to set up 835 model primary schools in first phase of flagship scheme: Chief Minister

The Odisha government will develop 835 model primary schools under the first phase of its flagship Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya scheme.
These high-quality primary schools will function as feeder schools for high schools across the state.

The government plans to spend Rs 7 crore per school. Schools with over 100 students, classes from pre-primary (Shishu Vatika) to Class 8, and more than two acres of land will be developed as model schools under the scheme.
During a review meeting on the scheme's implementation, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasised establishing one model school in each gram panchayat headquarters based on geographical considerations.
He stressed providing national-level quality education within the socio-economic context and ensuring transport facilities for students.
Majhi instructed authorities to provide free transportation for students in remote and inaccessible areas.
He directed that schools with adequate land be selected for development in a way that facilitates future upgradation to high schools.
The Chief Minister urged departmental secretaries and officials to improve results by adopting technology and following best practices in teacher recruitment.
He also highlighted strengthening infrastructure, modern teaching methods, and encouraging involvement of parents, alumni, and local stakeholders.
Majhi emphasised strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy to achieve basic competencies by Class 3, in line with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).
Discussions also covered the government's aim to promote diverse education forms, including STEM-based learning and vocational skills, to support holistic student development, creativity, critical thinking, and life skills. IANS.

As part of his visit, the Minister inspected ongoing school infrastructure works at Manjakuppam, including classrooms and separate hostel facilities for boys and girls being built at a cost of Rs 19.33 crore. Addressing the gathering, Poyyamozhi said, 'Various schemes have been launched to ensure all students get quality education in a supportive environment.' He highlighted key initiatives including the Illam Thedi Kalvi scheme, which supported home-based learning during the pandemic, and Ennum Ezhuthum, aimed at improving literacy and numeracy for students up to Class 5.

Delhi University has confirmed admissions for 71,130 undergraduate students for the academic year 2025–26, nearly filling its total capacity of 71,624 seats across 79 programmes in 69 colleges. The announcement comes following the release of the third round of seat allocations under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). As per university data, 34,069 candidates opted to upgrade their college and course preferences in the third round, while 35,889 chose to freeze their previous allotments. Following these requests, 5,930 students were successfully upgraded to a higher preference. Candidates who received allotments in this round must accept their seats and complete the fee payment process by August 7. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the allocated seat. Colleges are currently handling the document verification and fee submission processes. Mid-Entry Window From August 8 To 10 DU will release a list of vacant seats on August 8, which will kick off the Mid-Entry window for new applicants and previously rejected candidates. This window opens at 5 PM on August 8 and closes at 4:59 PM on August 10. The Mid-Entry provision allows: Candidates who missed the initial CSAS application. Applicants who did not complete Phase 2. Students whose applications were rejected due to document issues or subject mapping errors. Such candidates can re-enter the admission process by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000 and correcting their application during the window. Final Phase Of UG Admissions After the Mid-Entry phase, the next seat allocation list will be released on August 13. This round will include candidates from performance-based courses such as Music, BFA, and Physical Education, as well as CW (Children of War Widows), ECA, Sports, and Ward quota applicants. The first list for these quotas will be published on August 15, and the entire admission process will conclude on August 19. No new admissions will be accepted beyond this date. Sanitation facilities at BC Welfare Girls Hostel inaugurated

Nandyal: District Collector G Raja Kumari has formally inaugurated six newly constructed toilet units at BC Welfare Girls Hostel in Nandyal town on Wednesday. The new sanitation block, built at a cost of Rs 13 lakh, under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding by Rayalaseema Expressway Private Limited, is located opposite the SP Office. In a press release on Wednesday, the authorities have stated that the hostel accommodates around 250 girl students, who have been facing shortage of adequate toilet facilities. Aware of the inconvenience faced by the girls, the Collector recommended construction of additional sanitation infrastructure. Acting promptly on the request, Rayalaseema Expressway Private Limited completed the construction, enabling the inauguration of the new block. The Collector inspected the facilities and expressed satisfaction over the quality and timely execution of the project. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Collector Raja Kumari reaffirmed the government's commitment to the welfare of hostel students. She appreciated the CSR initiative undertaken by Rayalaseema Expressway and commended the company for its responsible and timely contribution. BC Welfare Officer Jaggayya, Project Head Madan Mohan Vangara, company staff, and hostel students were present at the event.
