Pope Francis is being honored around the world after his death.
The Vatican announced April 21 that the pontiff, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, passed away at the age of 88.
'At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father,' Cardinal Kevin Farrell said in a statement. "He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and the marginalized."
Following his death, the Holy Father—who was hospitalized earlier this year while battling pneumonia in both lungs—was remembered by fellow world leaders, including , who shared a message on behalf of himself and .
"My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis," Charles began. "Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry."

"His Holiness will be remembered for his compassion," the king continued, "his concern for the unity of the Church and for his tireless commitment to the common causes of all people of faith, and to those of goodwill who work for the benefit of others. His belief that care for Creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded with so many across the world. Through his work and care for both people and planet, he profoundly touched the lives of so many."
Charles went on to reflect on his time with Pope Francis, including an April 9 meeting.
"The Queen and I remember with particular affection our meetings with His Holiness over the years and we were greatly moved to have been able to visit him earlier in the month," Charles shared. "We send our most heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Church he served with such resolve and to the countless people around the world who, inspired by his life, will be mourning the devastating loss of this faithful follower of Jesus Christ."

The White House's official X account honored Pope Francis by sharing a photo of him with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, as well as a picture from Vice President JD Vance's Easter meeting with the Holy Father.
"Rest in Peace," the caption read, "Pope Francis."
Vance posted a separate message on his X account, writing, "I just leaned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him. I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I'll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful."
Trump added on his Truth Social platform, "Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!"
The President of France Emmanuel Macron also remembered Pope Francis and his lasting legacy.
"From Buenos Aires to Rome, Pope Francis wanted the Church to bring joy and hope to the poorest," he wrote on X, translated to English. "May it unite people with each other and with nature. May this hope continually revive beyond him. My wife and I send our thoughts to all Catholics and to the grieving world."
Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote a tribute on Facebook, stating, "Pope Francis has returned to the Father's house. A news that pains us deeply, because a great man and a great pastor leaves us."
"I have had the privilege to enjoy his friendship, his advice and his teachings, which never diminished even in times of trial and suffering," she continued. "In his meditations on the Via Crucis, he reminded us of the power of the gift, which makes everything flourish and is able to reconcile what is inconcilable in the eyes of man. And he asked the world, once again, for the courage of a change of course, to follow a road that 'does not destroy, but cultivates, repairs, preserves.'"
Meloni added that we'll continue to walk in his path. "To search for the way of peace, to pursue the common good and to build a more just and equal society," she concluded. "His mastery and legacy will not be lost. We greet the Holy Father with a sad heart, but we know he is now in the peace of the Lord."

Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty on One Charge in New York Rape Retrial

Originally appeared on E! Online A portion of Harvey Weinstein's fate has been decided. A jury found the former Hollywood producer guilty of one of the three sex crimes charges in his New York retrial on June 11. Weinstein was convicted of the charge of a Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, stemming from his 2006 alleged assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley. He was found not guilty of a charge of a Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree over his alleged assault of Kaja Sokola in 2006. The jury has yet to reach a verdict on the third count, relating to the alleged 2013 rape of aspiring actress Jessica Mann. (Deliberations are set to continue June 12.) Weinstein, 73, was originally found guilty of third-degree rape and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree during his trial in 2020, resulting in a 23-year sentence behind bars, per NBC News. However, his conviction was overturned in April 2024, with New York's highest court determining that improper testimony had been allowed at the trial. 'We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes,' the court said, "because that testimony served no material non-propensity purpose." In his retrial, he also faced a new allegation from Sokola, who said she met Weinstein at a club in 2002 when she was 16 and working as a fashion model, according to The New York Times. She alleged that he forcibly performed oral sex on her at a hotel in Manhattan four years later, leading to one more count of a first-degree criminal sexual act, per NBC News. 'They all had dreams of pursuing careers in the defendant's world, the entertainment industry,' prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told jurors June 3, per The Associated Press. "He was going to have their bodies and touch their bodies whether they wanted him to or not.' But, according to the outlet, Weinstein's lawyer argued, 'It's transactional, folks. Yes, he wants to fool around with them, and yes, they want something from him." Since the start of the #MeToo movement, over 80 women have accused the Oscar winner of sexual misconduct, though he maintains his interactions were consensual, per NBC. Weinstein—who was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer last year—is also serving 16 years in prison following a separate 2022 conviction of one count of forcible rape and two counts of sexual assault in his Los Angeles case. ‘The Last of Us': Gabriel Luna on shooting flamethrowers and what Season 3 could mean for Tommy

Making a television series can be a lot like surviving the apocalypse. Most of the time you're thrown together with a group of strangers and forced to overcome differences with the hopes of achieving something larger than yourself — maybe even forming a sort of family along the way. And you shoot a flamethrower. More from GoldDerby 'St. Denis Medical' creators Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer discuss navigating the 'peaks and valleys of comedy' Liam Payne confirmed as judge for Netflix singing competition, 'Superman' hits hard, and today's other top stories Carrie Preston on fencing with Matthew Broderick and the heart, humor, and growth of 'Elsbeth': 'She's more than just quirky' That's been Gabriel Luna's experience making The Last of Us, the massive HBO production that over the course of two seasons so far has turned its cast and crew into a community not dissimilar from the ragtag forces defending the walls of Jackson Hole, Wyo., from a horde of infected. "It was very similar in the way that we kind of embraced each other off-screen and tried to build the fibers between the cast as quickly as we could," Luna told Gold Derby. "There were instances where people had kind of just met each other and were thrown into pretty intense subject matter." And considering what happens in Season 2, "pretty intense" might be putting it lightly. The Last of Us Five years have passed since the events of Season 1's finale, in which Pedro Pascal's Joel murdered a hospital full of resistance fighters in order to save the life of his surrogate daughter, Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The duo are now living in Jackson, with Joel's brother Tommy, played by Luna. Tommy has spent the past half decade years growing his family, nuclear and otherwise. He and his wife, Maria (Rutina Wesley), now have a young son, and they're leaders within the community of Jackson, which has grown to resemble something like the world before the Cordyceps. For Luna, returning to the world of The Last of Us for the second season meant expanding his off-screen family as well, welcoming in new cast members like Isabela Merced, Kaitlyn Dever, and Young Mazino and doing his best to foster the same camaraderie on set that made Season 1 such a special shoot. "Pedro and myself, Rutina, and Bella were kind of the elder statesman," Luna said. "We were trying to maintain the culture of the show, which is one of love, of real love. And that sounds kind of cliché, but it's, it's really true in this case." But soon the concerns of production were shifting from whether the costars got along to whether Luna could properly handle a flamethrower. The season's biggest set piece, in which hundreds of infected descend upon Jackson, involves Tommy facing down a massive bloater one-on-one, and Luna got to operate the fire-powered weapon himself on set — with less training than you might expect. "They give you a three-minute tutorial," Luna said with a laugh. "That's it a couple of days before you go on." The massive scale of the action in that episode is balanced with drama elsewhere that was painfully personal. Joel's brutal death at the hands of Dever's Abby defines the trajectory of the story that follows, sending Ellie off on a quest for revenge that takes her and Dina (Merced) all the way to Seattle. But when the action picks back up on Episode 3, the focus is on Tommy, now a grieving brother, as he prepares Joel's body for burial. The scene, for Luna, had greater implications for the show that went beyond the story. "It was kind of a farewell to the great leader," Luna said. "The great leadership that Pedro gave, and a transition into Bella's tenure, and myself and everyone else and Kaitlyn, who were going to continue telling the story. Yeah, I kind of let it all go in that moment." The scene was such an integral one that Luna had a unique request. Since Joel remains beneath a sheet during the sequence, Pascal's double, Philippe, laid on the slab for filming. And when production asked Luna whether it would help to have the actor opposite him in full, bloody makeup, he took them up on the offer — unfortunately for Philippe. "I apologized for having them put him in full makeup," Luna said with a laugh. "I'd have to lift that shroud and see his face, and I wanted something to to obviously engage with and react to, and [Philippe] was kind enough to go through several hours of prosthetic makeup to do the full look. And, but it all ended up being really effective for me and hopefully for the piece itself." And while Ellie's quest for Abby takes the action away from Jackson, Tommy eventually catches up with her, just in time to land at the center of the season's climactic cliffhanger. Held at gunpoint by Abby, the fate of Tommy and Ellie are left in the balance until Season 3. But Luna is excited for viewers to learn more about what his character was up to when the series' point of view shifts to Abby and winds the clock back two days. "What's special about the game and the perspective shift that occurs is that your heroes in one viewpoint are someone else's boogeyman," Luna said. "And I look forward to being that — if we do, in fact, handle that story that way. It's an opportunity to really show somebody who returns to their base instincts and the most destructive aspects of their nature and someone who gives in to the fury that that kind of grief sparks." Brian Wilson, Beach Boys co-founder, dead at 82

Brian Wilson, founding member of the Beach Boys and pop music innovator, has died. He was 82. The legendary singer and songwriter's family confirmed his passing through social media. "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," the post read. "We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world." No cause of death was announced. In early 2024, shortly after the death of his second wife, Melinda Ledbetter, it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with dementia. Wilson, originally from Hawthorne, Calif., scored three No. 1 hits with the Beach Boys, including "I Get Around," "Help Me, Rhonda," and "Good Vibrations." He was perhaps just as well known for his work in the studio, evolving the sound of pop music and rock and roll to incorporate more elaborate productions featuring complex harmonies and orchestration. For as seismic as Wilson's impact on the music industry inarguably was, he went under-recognized by awards bodies. A nine-time Grammy nominee, he only scored his first win in 2005 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance with "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow." Wilson won his second of two Grammys eight years later for Best Historical Album with The Smile Sessions. Alongside the Beach Boys, Wilson was a 1988 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a 2000 inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. "One Kind of Love," the song he wrote for the 2014 biopic Love & Mercy starring Paul Dano, earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
