As part of efforts to deal with the rush of pilgrims in the last leg of the Kanwar Yatra, the Delhi Traffic Police on Monday issued an advisory announcing the closure of several key roads in the national capital until 8 am on July 23.
In a post on social media platform X, the Delhi Traffic Police said from July 21, 2025, 8:00 am to July 23, 2025, 8:00 am, the following roads will remain closed – GT Road from Apsara Border to Shahdara, Seemapuri to Apsara Border, Anand Vihar to Apsara Border, and GT Road to Vivek Vihar Underpass.
Traffic from Swami Dayanand Marg to Keshav Chowk (towards GT Road) and traffic from Pusta Road to Shastri Park will also remain closed, the advisory said.
In the advisory, the police have also suggested alternative routes.
For traffic from Seemapuri to Apsara Border - commuters can use the underpass towards Road No. 56; for Anand Vihar to Apsara Border traffic - the underpass towards Seemapuri; for traffic on GT Road to Vivek Vihar - Apsara Border route and then Road No. 56; for traffic on Swami Dayanand Marg - Vikas Marg or NH-9; and for traffic on Pusta Road - NH-9 or Ring Road.
The Delhi Traffic Police further said, 'Please plan your route accordingly and follow traffic guidelines to ensure a smooth journey.'
'Follow traffic diversions and cooperate with authorities during the Kanwar Yatra. Your support ensures the safety of both Kanwariyas and commuters,' the police said.
A group of Kanwariyas was allegedly attacked by some intoxicated men in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh following a dispute late Sunday, police said, reported news agency PTI.
Police said the incident occurred at around 11 pm near Chandoora village, and the situation was quickly brought under control. Two suspects have been taken into custody.
The Kanwariyas, after offering water at the Prasanna Nath Mahadev Temple, were walking from Bhagauli Tirth towards the Lodheswar Mahadev temple in Ramnagar, which is a traditional pilgrimage route followed during the Hindu month of Shravan (Sawan), dedicated to Lord Shiva.
There was an altercation between the kanwariyas and a group of men near a shop. As the pilgrims moved ahead, about six men intercepted them near a petrol station between the villages of Raipur and Chandoora and attacked them.

Bajrang Dal member arrested for 'harassing' Blinkit rider for non-veg delivery during Sawan: Viral Video

A Bajrang Dal member was arrested for harassing a Blinkit rider, and allegedly threatening a store manager of the quick commerce platform for delivering non-vegetarian items during the holy month of Sawan. The accused has been identified as Manoj Verma, who intercepted the delivery rider in Ghaziabad's Vijay Nagar. Not only did the Bajrang Dal member stop the delivery rider, and ask him to show what contents he was delivering, but also called up the customer — enquiring about the person's religion. A video of the incident has now gone viral multiple social media platforms. On July 15, Manoj Verma and his associates had stormed a Blinkit outlet in Siddharth Vihar — the store's manager — Mohnish said in a complaint. The group had also demanded an immediate halt to raw chicken deliveries during the month of Sawan and also threatened to shut down the store if their demands were not met. 'He came between 4 pm and 5 pm and started abusing our fleet manager, Abhay, saying that he was getting chicken delivered in the month of Shravan,' Monish wrote in the complaint, with Verma also threatening that he would kill him and get the store closed, mentioned a report by The Indian Express. Following the incident, Ghaziabad (City) Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal said that a probe into the incident has begun, and Manoj Verma has been sent to judicial custody. Subhash, a Bajrang Dal member in Ghaziabad, confirmed to the Times of India that the man seen in the now viral video is affiliated to his organisation. He said the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22. "We have requested all restaurants and grocery stores not to sell non-vegetarian food till Shivratri. Whenever we found someone selling non-vegetarian food, we rushed there and asked them to sell only vegetarian items. This ban is only for a few days, and people of the district also support this initiative," Subhash was cited as saying.

Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Weeks after Raja's murder, family performs puja at crime scene, 'his soul...'

Weeks after the brutal murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon, his family performed a puja at the crime scene in Meghalaya on Thursday. Raghuvanshi's dismembered body was recovered last month, days after he and his wife, Sonam, were reported missing while holidaying in the state. Police investigations later revealed that Raja had been killed, allegedly at the behest of his wife. The family held rituals at a secluded parking area near Weisawdong Falls — the spot where Raja was allegedly hacked to death. The puja took place nearly two months after the incident and was reported by news agency PTI. Raja's elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, who was present at the site told Times Of India: "I feel that my brother's soul has not yet found peace, which is why I held a puja at the very place where Raja was murdered by his wife Sonam and her associates. I would like to thank the people of Meghalaya, the police and the administration who supported me and my family during the case." He further demanded action against the accused, saying, 'We demand swift justice. Those who conspired and killed our Raja must not walk free.' The case has shocked people across the country. What initially appeared to be a missing couple's case turned out to be a planned murder. Raja and Sonam, who were married on May 11, went missing on 23 May while on their honeymoon in Shillong. A few days later, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge in Sohra, East Khasi Hills district. Sonam was later traced to a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Police said Sonam had allegedly plotted Raja's murder with her lover, Raj Kushwaha. Three others — Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi — allegedly assisted in the crime. All four accused have been arrested and remain in judicial custody.

Maharashtra horror: HIV-infected girl raped at children's home in Latur, forced abortion, 4 arrested so far

Four individuals were arrested on Friday, July 26, for allegedly raping an HIV-infected girl for more than two years at a children's shelter in Latur district of Maharashtra. They also compelled her to undergo an abortion after she became pregnant, news agency PTI reported, citing a police official. The girl filed a complaint at the Dhoki police station in her native Dharashiv district, stating that the incidents occurred between 13 July 2023 and 23 July 2025 at Sevalay, a home for HIV-infected children in Hasegaon. "As per her complaint, the child was at the institution for the past two years. She was allegedly raped by an employee of the children's home four times. He also threatened her to not disclose the ordeal to anyone. The institution's management did not help her and even tore up a letter she had marked for officials and had dropped into a complaint box," an official told PTI. When the victim fell sick, she was taken to a hospital where tests revealed that she was four months pregnant. Subsequently, the accused arranged for a doctor to perform an abortion without her consent, the official said. Six individuals were registered by Dhoki police, including the founder and superintendent of the institution, the employee who assaulted her, and the doctor who carried out the abortion, the official added. The case was transferred to the Ausa police station, the jurisdiction in which the alleged incidents took place. According to Latur Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe, four people were arrested. They were identified as Sevalay founder Ravi Bapatle, its superintendent Rachna Bapatle, employees Amit Mahamuni and Pooja Waghmare. Last month, a similar incident was reported from Latur district, where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated, reported PTI. "As per the probe conducted so far, the minor victim had been staying with her sister, and her brother-in-law was employed as a farm worker by the accused," the report quoted an official. The accused allegedly kept a close watch on the girl and often visited the farm shed whenever she was there. During one such occasion, he allegedly raped the minor and threatened to kill her.
