SEWA and University of Sharjah discuss joint cooperation

The work plan aims at achieving the desired goals within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties, which aims to enhance cooperation in the field of scientific research and develop innovative solutions that contribute to achieving the goals of sustainable development in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Electricity Distribution Department and attended by Dr. Eng. Hassan Ahmed Al Zarouni, Director of the Research and Studies Department and Eng. Ahmed Ailan Al Shamsi, in addition to specialised engineers in the Research and Studies Department. The meeting was also attended by a delegation from the University of Sharjah that included senior researchers and academics.
The delegation expressed its deep appreciation for this constructive cooperation and its keenness to continue and develop it.
Energy efficiency
Dr. Eng. Hassan Al Zarouni stressed the importance of this cooperation in supporting the Authority's efforts and vision to enhance scientific research and technical development to serve the achievement of sustainable development in the Emirate of Sharjah, noting that SEWGA seeks, in cooperation with the University of Sharjah, to provide innovative solutions that enhance energy efficiency and quality of life for current and future generations.
Resources rationalisation
Al Zarouni explained that the joint research topics cover a wide range of issues of strategic importance, including energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Research includes developing new technologies to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and manage and desalinate water by finding innovative solutions to manage water resources. It also includes developing water desalination technologies and renewable energy by exploring renewable energy sources. Moreover, developing new technologies to increase their contribution to the energy mix and improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity, water and gas distribution networks and rationalise consumption by developing programmes and policies to encourage rationalisation of energy and water consumption.
Enhancing innovation and scientific research
Al Zarouni pointed out that this strategic partnership aims to achieve several goals, including enhancing innovation and scientific research in the field of energy and sustainability, developing qualified human cadres capable of facing future challenges and contributing to achieving sustainable development goals in the Emirate of Sharjah and enhancing Sharjah's position as a hub of excellence in the field of energy and sustainability.

In his remarks, Dr. Duck-Ho Lim, former president of HYU, commended the far-reaching contributions of the Sharjah ruler across the globe, expressing hope for continued cooperation between the two countries. Dr. Jae-Ok Park, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, presented a detailed account of the ruler's achievements, which have helped position Sharjah as the cultural capital of the Arab world. He underlined His Highness's various publications and initiatives aimed at enriching the lives of his people. Founded in 1939, HYU is one of South Korea's most esteemed institutions, particularly known for its engineering programmes. Its alumni have made significant contributions to the country's development and technological innovations, both nationally and internationally. The honorary doctorate is one of several international recognitions bestowed upon His Highness in recognition of his leadership in education, culture, and public service.

Representing the University of Sharjah was Professor Dr. Esameldin Agmy, the University's Chancellor. The event was attended by Dr. Abdullah Khalaf Al-Hosani, Secretary-General of the Academy; Professor Dr. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies; as well as several academic and research leaders and department heads from both institutions. He was introduced to its efforts in promoting the values of tolerance and the beauty of Islam through its three main pillars: — The Sharjah Global Digital Quran Recitation Platform, which includes participants from 172 countries and facilitates the granting of Quranic certifications in various modes of recitation. — The Academy's commitment to Quranic research and studies as a top priority. — The Quranic museums, which showcase the history of the Holy Quran's transcription, rare manuscripts, Quranic sciences, renowned scholars, and the covering of the Holy Kaaba. The Chancellor expressed his admiration for the Holy Quran Academy, praising it as a cultural and intellectual landmark dedicated to the preservation, study, and promotion of the Holy Quran and its sciences.
