President of the Republic of Benin Patrice Talon met on Tuesday with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, on the margins of the Qatar Economic Forum 2025.
Throughout the meeting, they explored avenues for strengthening collaborative ties between the two countries, and exchanged perspectives on the topics listed on the forum's agenda, as well as a range of topics of mutual interest.
The prime minister also met with First Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, and Founder of Bloomberg Media Group Michael Bloomberg.
During the meetings, they discussed cooperation relations between Qatar and Bloomberg, and ways to enhance them. They also exchanged views on topics listed on the Forum's agenda, as well as a number of topics of common interest.
The prime minister also met with a British parliamentary delegation from the House of Commons and the House of Lords, led by Shadow Economic Secretary to the Treasury Mark Garnier, and included Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department of Health and Social Care MP Dr. Zubir Ahmed; Chair of the International Development Committee in the House of Commons MP Sarah Champion; Member of the House of Lords Lord Ross Kempsell.
During the meeting, they discussed relations between the two countries and ways to support and enhance them. They also exchanged views on topics on the forum's agenda, in addition to a number of topics of common interest.

Qatar reiterates firm support for Syria's unity, sovereignty
QNA Doha Qatar has reiterated its firm and supportive stances on the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as on the realisation of the aspirations of its fraternal people for a dignified life and the building of a state of institutions and law. This came as Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani received a high-level Syrian ministerial delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic HE Asaad Hassan Al Shaibani, accompanied by seven ministers, in Doha on Tuesday. The visit comes within the framework of strengthening the solid fraternal relations and bilateral cooperation between the two countries. At the outset of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates conveyed the greetings of President of the Syrian Arab Republic HE Ahmed Al Sharaa to His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wishes for the State of Qatar, its government, and people, continued progress and prosperity. The Syrian minister also expressed Syria's deep appreciation for the State of Qatar's initiatives and continuous efforts in support of the reconstruction process in Syria, praising Qatar's firm stances toward supporting the Syrian people. In turn, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir to the president of the Syrian Arab Republic, and His Highness' wishes for continued health and happiness for His Excellency, and for continued progress and prosperity for the government and people of the Syrian Arab Republic. The meeting discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasising the depth of fraternal ties that unite them and their mutual commitment to strengthening and developing cooperation in various areas of common interest. The meeting also discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the energy, economy, trade, finance, tourism, communications, information technology, higher education, development, and other sectors, including: • Support and supply the Syrian Arab Republic with electricity. • Settling the Syrian Arab Republic's debt to the World Bank, jointly by the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. • Providing joint financial support from the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the salaries of public sector workers in the Syrian Arab Republic for a period of three months. The Qatari side reiterated the State of Qatar's firm and supportive stances on the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as on the realization of the aspirations of its fraternal people for a dignified life and the building of a state of institutions and law. It also categorically rejected any attempts to undermine Syria's unity or undermine its national sovereignty. For its part, the Syrian side affirmed its pride in the State of Qatar's supportive stance towards the Syrian people, praising its supportive role at various stages and reiterating the Syrian Arab Republic's commitment to the principles of respecting the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.

Ministry of Environment and Climate Change launches Qatar Biodiversity Database
QNA Doha The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on Tuesday launched the National Biodiversity Database of the State of Qatar through an interactive electronic platform to document and classify terrestrial and marine organisms. The launch coincides with World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5. The platform aims to create accurate maps of natural habitats and the spatial and temporal distribution of species, providing a reliable scientific reference that supports decision-makers, researchers, and relevant authorities in preparing national reports and formulating environmental policies based on precise and sustainable scientific data. In this context, Minister of Environment and Climate Change HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie affirmed that the launch of the database is a strategic milestone in Qatar's environmental path and reflects the country's commitment to environmental governance and sustainable development. He pointed out that having a comprehensive and reliable national database is a strategic necessity and a key tool for monitoring environmental changes, policy formulation, and decision-making. It also plays a role in enhancing Qatar's standing in international environmental indices by providing accurate data to global organizations, HE added. HE the Minister explained that the database aligns with the aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030 and translates the directions of the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 toward green transformation and enhanced environmental security, particularly in addressing the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. The launch ceremony witnessed the signing of a 'Principal User Document' with several governmental and academic entities, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Environmental Science Centre at Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, University of Doha for Science and Technology, Qatar National Library, and the Friends of the Environment Centre. This step aims to promote effective institutional use of environmental data. For his part, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said that the new platform is an advanced model in environmental knowledge management, enabling accurate assessment of biodiversity, with a focus on both threatened and non-threatened species and environmentally sensitive sites, through scientifically supported descriptions with maps and illustrative images. HE also noted that, as a party to international biodiversity agreements, Qatar regularly conducts comprehensive environmental surveys, and the new platform will enhance the quality of these reports and facilitate environmental reporting. Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Natural Reserves Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani emphasized that the database marks a qualitative leap in unifying environmental data and supporting the sustainable use of biological resources, while also encouraging community and expert engagement in environmental conservation efforts. Director of the Wildlife Development Department at the Ministry Youssef Ibrahim Al Hamar said that the database serves as a comprehensive reference that enables users to conduct seamless searches and access accurate data. He noted that the Ministry organized training courses for the technical team to ensure the platform's operational readiness.

Turkey's TPAO joins major Azeri gas field project
Agencies Turkey's state energy company TPAO is joining a major natural gas field off Azerbaijan as a partner, in a deal that will mark a new chapter in bilateral cooperation, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced on Monday. The gas production-sharing agreement will be signed between TPAO, Azerbaijan's SOCAR and British energy giant BP on Tuesday and covers the Shafag-Asiman offshore block in the Caspian Sea, Bayraktar told the Baku Energy Week conference. He described the partnership between Turkey and Azerbaijan as a 'strategic energy alliance built on deep-rooted history, shared culture and a common vision' and said the new deal would enhance joint production in Azerbaijan. The Shafag-Asiman offshore block has long been viewed as a promising site for hydrocarbon exploration. It is 125 kilometres (78 miles) southeast of Baku and at a depth of 650-800 metres, according to SOCAR's website. The first exploration well was drilled in 2020. 'Hopefully, we will finalize the agreement here. We have acquired a 30 percent stake. Our partners are SOCAR and BP. We hope to begin production at this field,' Bayraktar told reporters on the sidelines of the conference. In a message sent to the opening ceremony of the event, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to deepening energy cooperation with Azerbaijan, calling their joint projects a key to regional and European energy security. Erdogan praised the enduring partnership between Ankara and Baku, which he said has been crowned with joint infrastructure projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines, and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP). 'Our collaboration not only benefits Turkey and Azerbaijan but also continues to make significant contributions to the energy security of the region and Europe,' said thepresident. On the sidelines of the event, Bayraktar held a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which he described as productive, focusing on expanding cooperation across various energy domains. 'TPAO's presence in Azerbaijan is growing. We're also discussing collaboration on additional fields and will continue to ramp up our activity in the Caspian Sea,' he said. Bayraktar echoed Erdoğan's view that Turkish-Azerbaijani energy projects contribute to Europe's energy security. 'In the coming period, we anticipate new developments regarding projects that aim to deliver gas to Europe from alternative and additional sources,' he said. He also highlighted Azerbaijan's increasing investments in renewables and revealed plans for cross-border clean energy infrastructure. 'In the period ahead, we will develop projects for generating renewable energy in Nakhchivan and transporting it to Turkey, and through Turkey on to Europe,' he added. The remarks come at a time of rising global energy uncertainty driven by geopolitical conflicts, aging infrastructure and market volatility.
