Your views on Shedeur Sanders
In a highly anticipated professional debut in Carolina, Shedeur Sanders balled out. Sure, it's only preseason, but if his debut had gone differently, would the same sentiment apply? Just food for thought ...
Here are your views on the Browns' rookie QB, who won't play today: Dust Y: I'll hold off on crowning anyone until the games actually count, and the quarterback is playing against elite talent, and the defensive coordinator is actually calling complicated schemes young quarterbacks have never seen in live action….

Good night for Shedeur. Bad night for the haters. Bo E.: Carolina's first team defensive starters were in for most of the first quarter while Cleveland was playing its second and third string offensive linemen and backs/receivers. When it was 2s and 3s vs. 2s and 3s - Sanders dominated.
Carolina's first team defensive starters were in for most of the first quarter while Cleveland was playing its second and third string offensive linemen and backs/receivers. When it was 2s and 3s vs. 2s and 3s - Sanders dominated. Spencer M.: I do not understand all the hatred for this young man. He never complained about his fall in the draft or the fact that he went to the worst organization in football ( a QB graveyard). He's worked his tail off and had a good showing, throwing two TDs into tight windows. The haters criticize the level of competition as a way to demean Sanders.
Despite what it may have looked like early, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders said he didn't feel any extra nerves ahead of his professional debut last Friday night.
His first pass sailed high, and the Browns' first three series produced more misses than hits. But a Carolina Panthers turnover led to a well-placed 7-yard touchdown pass from Sanders to Kaden Davis on the first play of the second quarter. Late in the first half, Sanders finished an efficient drive with an even better touchdown toss than his first, again to Davis, this one from 12 yards out.
In all, Sanders piloted the Browns for 10 series. Three of them ended in touchdowns. The fourth player in the training camp quarterback order was sharp throughout his 45 plays. Neither Sanders nor Browns coach Kevin Stefanski would address what Sanders' performance might mean for Cleveland's quarterback order after the game, but both seemed rightfully pleased.
💬 'I felt like me out there,' Sanders said.

Facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 of the preseason, Cam Ward looked poised in his first taste of NFL action, completing 5-of-8 passes for 67 yards. He showed a nice rapport with Calvin Ridley, who caught three passes for 50 yards, and led a touchdown drive, capped by a Tony Pollard rushing score.
Last night, he followed that up with a more uneven performance against the Atlanta Falcons. Ward played three series, completing 2-of-7 passes for 42 yards. His first throw of the night was his best one, connecting with Elic Ayomanor for a gain of 35 yards.

The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
In Week 1, both the Commanders and Bengals lost handily. Washington barely played any starters at all, and Cincinnati gave its first-teamers a few series, and the offense, in particular, looked good.
After a loaded day of football today, tomorrow's slate features just two games: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New Orleans Saints: 1 p.m. ET
1 p.m. ET Buffalo Bills vs. Chicago Bears: 8 p.m. ET

Alcántara works 7 sharp innings, Acosta homers for 1st career hit, Marlins beat Cardinals 6-2
MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcántara pitched two-run ball for seven innings, rookie Máximo Acosta homered for his career hit and the Miami Marlins beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 on Wednesday night. Heriberto Hernández had three hits and two RBIs and Troy Johnston singled twice for the Marlins, who avoided a three-game series sweep. Alcántara (7-11) scattered five hits and struck out a season-high nine. It was the 29-year-old right-hander's third outing of the season that lasted seven innings. Acosta, who was hitless in eight at-bats since being called up Monday, hit a fastball from Cardinals starter Andre Pallante 418 feet over the wall in center in the sixth inning to increase Miami's lead to 5-2. The Cardinals had cut their deficit to 4-2 in the top of the inning Willson Contreras' solo homer, his 17th. Hernández scored from third on a double-play groundout in the second, and gave the Marlins a 3-0 lead with a two-run single in the third. Lars Nootbaar's RBI double in the fifth put the Cardinals on the board before Johnston hit a run-scoring single in the bottom half to give the Marlins another three-run advantage. Pallante (6-11) was lifted after 5 1/3 innings. He gave up five runs and eight hits with four strikeouts. Key moment Jakob Marsee and Agustín Hernández completed a double steal before Hernández's single in the third. Key stat Alcántara made his 163rd career start, surpassing Dontrelle Willis for second in Marlins' history. Ricky Nolasco leads with 197. Up next RHP Sonny Gray (11-6, 4.30 ERA) will start the opener of a three-game series at Tampa Bay on Thursday. The Rays will go with RHP Joe Boyle (1-2, 4.68). The Marlins have not announced a starter for the opener of a three-game home series against Toronto on Friday. RHP Shane Bieber will make his season debut for the Blue Jays. ___ AP MLB:

Swiatek and Ruud meet defending champs Errani and Vavassori in US Open mixed doubles final
NEW YORK (AP) — Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud will play defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori on Wednesday night for the U.S. Open mixed doubles title and $1 million. Swiatek and Ruud, the No. 3 seeds, beat top-seeded Jessica Pegula 3-5, 5-3, 10-8 in a match tiebreaker in the first semifinal, in what was probably the best match of an event that was overhauled this year. They trailed 8-4 in the tiebreaker after Swiatek double-faulted, then ran off six straight points to advance. Errani and Vavassori then beat Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison 4-2, 4-2. After a short break, the finalists would be back on the court to wrap up an event that was completed over two days, well before singles play starts Sunday. Both teams won two matches Tuesday to earn spots in the semifinals that were played under a closed roof at Arthur Ashe Stadium after rain fell much of the afternoon. Errani and Vavassori weren't even sure they would get to defend their titles after the U.S. Tennis Association radically changed the mixed doubles tournament in an effort to draw top singles players. Eight teams in the 16-team field qualified by their players' combined singles rankings, with the remaining teams given wild cards. The Italians — were were among the biggest critics of the changed format — were given one and have a chance to be the first repeat champions in Flushing Meadows since Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jamie Murray in 2018-19. 'I think we are on a mission,' Vavassori said. The final will more closely resemble a traditional match, with sets to six games. They went to four games in the first three rounds, with a deciding point played at deuce instead of needing to get the next two points. ___ More AP tennis:

Bell's homer, Henry's clutch relief help Nationals beat Mets 5-4
Josh Bell homered and drove in two runs, rookie reliever Cole Henry pitched out of a jam in the sixth inning and the Washington Nationals held on to beat the Mets 5-4 on Wednesday night, ending New York's three-game winning streak. Bell's 16th homer was a 420-foot line drive to the right-field stands in the fifth against the struggling Kodai Senga (7-5), who allowed five funs (four earned) in five-plus innings. New York's Brett Baty hit his 15th homer, a 455-foot rocket in the fifth. Nationals right fielder Dylan Crews stood still as the ball flew into the second deck. Rookie Brad Lord (4-6) pitched five sharp innings for the Nationals before losing his command in the sixth. He walked the first two batters, then gave up back-to-back one-out doubles to Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil that got the Mets within 5-4. Henry came in and worked around a throwing error by third baseman Paul DeJong, retiring Cedric Mullins on a popup and Luis Torrens on a grounder to strand the bases loaded. Shinnosuke Ogasawara pitched a perfect seventh, Clayton Beeter did the same in the eighth and Jose A. Ferrer worked the ninth for his third save. Nationals interim manager Miguel Cairo was ejected by plate umpire Todd Tichenor in the top of the sixth. Mets left fielder Brandon Nimmo exited in the second inning with a stiff neck. The Nationals loaded the bases in the third on two walks and a catcher's interference. Their first hit of the night was an RBI infield single by CJ Abrams, and Bell followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Senga has allowed 18 earned runs over 27 innings in his past six starts for a 6.00 ERA. In a matchup of lefties, Sean Manaea (1-1, 4.78 ERA) starts for the Mets against the Nationals' MacKenzie Gore (5-12, 4.04) as the series concludes on Thursday.
