Mangalore varsity prioritises early announcement of 6th sem results
The university made this decision after pressure from candidates, who expressed concerns that delays in announcing the results would jeopardise their chances of getting into higher education or jobs. The deemed-to-be and autonomous colleges completed their UG exams already, and they have also begun the admission process for PG courses, while Mangalore University started the end-semester exams on June 9. The examination process is under way for second, fourth, and sixth semester students.
H Devendrappa, registrar (evaluation) at Mangalore University, told TOI, "Last year, we were able to announce the results of the sixth semester exam three days after the start of the evaluation. We are also planning the same this year too. However, it all depends on various factors, such as if there are no holidays due to rain, which results in the cancellation and postponement of exams, and the availability of human resources for the evaluation of papers.
We will first start with the sixth semester evaluation and announce the results at the earliest. There are about 26,000 plus students appearing for the sixth semester examination at the moment," said Devendrappa.
He added further that elaborate arrangements will be made from the university's side to facilitate a smooth evaluation process. "We understand that early results will help candidates to get admitted to higher education institutions," he said.
Meanwhile, Devendrappa added that the printing of the marks card for the UG-NEP syllabus is under way.

Over 12,000 fail SSLC exams even in their third attempt in Belagavi and Chikodi
Belagavi: Despite three chances allowed by the govt for candidates to clear the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams, as many as 12,385 students from institutions in the educational districts of Belagavi and Chikodi failed to make the cut this year. Official records show that 7,007 candidates from Chikodi and 5,378 from Belagavi failed in the exams. The numbers have raised concern over declining academic standards in these districts. This is all the more surprising given that just a few years ago, Belagavi and Chikodi were in the top ten on the state's SSLC results table. Given such a dismal scenario in these two districts, there is a growing concern that those who have failed may eventually be sucked into the vortex of child labour, depriving them of a further shot at education and a healthy, meaningful life. In recent SSLC exams, Belagavi was placed at the 25th spot, while Chikodi educational district was ranked 26th. The overall pass percentage in the two districts was around 62% as both continued to be in a downward spiral. Officials at the Belagavi School Education and Literacy Department said the block education officers will try to convince the parents of those who have failed to re-enrol their wards in class 10 and let them prepare for the next examination. Likewise, all high school teachers have been instructed to encourage this. Experts believe the education department needs to give more serious consideration to such dismal performance by these students and plug the holes in terms of academic shortcomings as much as possible to make sure no student falls through the crack. Seetaram, the deputy director of the school education and literacy department, Chikodi, said those who failed in all their subjects can still return to their classrooms. Even students who failed in some of the subjects can meet with their respective teachers, discuss their problems, and have their doubts cleared. Training academy's aircraft hardlands at Baramati airport & veers off runway, trainee pilot safe
Pune: A trainee pilot had a close shave on Saturday morning after an aircraft of Redbird Flight Training Academy hardlanded at Baramati airport and veered off the runway, after he sighted a flock of birds just before touchdown. A source said the sole trainee pilot in the aircraft did not suffer any major injuries. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Baramati, Sudarshan Rathod told TOI, "No criminal offence has been registered pertaining to the incident. AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) will investigate the matter and record a detailed statement of the pilot in the process. We will get it in a few days. Only then, the exact reason of the accident can be ascertained. " A senior official of Redbird Flight Training Academy said, "The (trainee) pilot was flying solo on a single-engine JC 2008 aircraft of Italian make. A flock of birds came in front of the plane just before landing, distracting him. As a result, the aircraft had a heavy touchdown and its nose wheel was damaged. The instructor was there and the whole incident was recorded on CCTV cameras." He said, "The (trainee) pilot was instructed to make a go-round, following which the aircraft was airborne again. As the damaged nose wheel got depressed, the plane made a rough landing." Sources identified the trainee pilot as Vivek Yadav. The airstrip the Redbird Academy uses for training is managed and maintained by the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation).

Stray dogs return on Pune airport premises, PMC drive seems futile exercise
(Pics on mail) Pune: Kalyaninagar's Smita Sharma was shocked when she spotted stray dogs roaming on the Pune airport premises despite the PMC's recent drive, after she de-boarded from a plane from Ranchi around 11pm last week. "How are they back on the airport premises? I doubt if the airport authorities and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are doing their job seriously. All claims and assurances seem to be just lip service," she said. You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune The PMC had started a drive against stray dogs on the airport premises after an Air India Express plane from Bhubaneswar had to abort landing on June 29 because of the presence of a dog on the runway. In a weeklong drive, as many as 12 stray dogs were caught. After sterilisation, they were left outside the airport premises with the promise of continuous monitoring. Sarika Funde, the head of the PMC's veterinary department, told TOI, "We have set up 3-4 designated spots outside the airport for feeding these dogs after talks with local dog feeders. If dogs have been seen again on the airport premises, it seems they are being fed inside the facility. We will be checking the present situation and act accordingly." The official said, "Not just the dog feeders, flyers also tend to feed dogs behind the old canteen on the old terminal premises. We will have to check how the dogs have come back." A WhatsApp message was sent to the airport director, Santosh Dhoke, on Friday morning about the presence of stray dogs. A report was awaited till going to press. Not just Sharma, Balewadi's Kaushal Raj also spotted dogs on the airport premises after he flew in from Delhi late in the evening on July 31. "I was going towards AeroMall. A dog was loitering right in front of the crowded arrival area. Two-three other dogs were sitting near the old arrival area of the under-construction building. While one can understand that monitoring cannot happen all the time and dogs tend to wander, the authorities need to be vigilant in the wake of the Air India Express plane's incident. The Pune airport authorities have people to manage the traffic. They can be told to check the presence of stray dogs," he said. Aviation expert Dhairyashil Vandekar was critical about the issue. "The airport has been witnessing many incidents related to birds and dogs. It is important for the officials to be very serious and act responsibly," he said.
