No shortage of fertilisers in Andhra Pradesh for kharif season, says official

Agriculture Director S. Dhilli Rao has said there is no shortage of fertilisers in the State. A plan has been drawn to supply 16.76 lakh tonnes of fertilisers for the Kharif-2025 season for all crops. This includes Urea – 6.22 lakh tonnes; DAP – 2.60 lakh tonnes; MOP – 0.70 lakh tonnes; SSP – 0.94 lakh tonnes; Complex – 6.30 lakh tonnes, he says. As on April 1, a quantum of 7.14 lakh tonnes of fertilisers (Urea – 2.98 lakh MT, DAP – 0.46 lakh MT, MOP – 0.65 lakh MT, SSP – 0.45 lakh MT, Complex – 2.59 lakh MT) were available in the opening stock, he said. From April 1 to June 6, a quantum of 3.95 lakh tonnes was supplied (Urea – 1.42 lakh MT, DAP – 0.46 lakh MT, MOP – 0.12 lakh MT, SSP – 0.27 lakh MT, Complex – 1.68 lakh MT), while the requirement was 2.07 lakh tonnes, he said. By June 6, a total of 11.09 lakh tonnes of fertilisers (Urea – 4.39 lakh MT, DAP – 0.92 lakh MT, MOP – 0.77 lakh MT, SSP – 0.72 lakh MT, Complex – 4.27 lakh MT) were made available to the farmers. During April 1 to June 6, 2 lakh tonnes of fertilisers were sold (Urea – 0.92 lakh MT, DAP – 0.15 lakh MT, MOP – 0.14 lakh MT, SSP – 0.18 lakh MT, Complex – 0.62 lakh MT), he said. As of June 6, a total of 9.09 lakh tonnes of fertilisers (Urea – 3.48 lakh MT, DAP – 0.77 lakh MT, MOP – 0.64 lakh MT, SSP – 0.54 lakh MT, Complex – 3.65 lakh MT) were available in cooperative societies, Rythu Seva Kendras, MARKFED warehouses, retail/wholesale shops, and company godowns, he said. By June 6, 2.01 lakh tonnes of various fertilisers were available in MARKFED and cooperative societies, ready to be distributed to farmers in the upcoming kharif season through societies and RSKs, he said. In addition to the above stocks, for June 2025, the Government of India allocated 2.35 lakh tonnes of fertilisers to Andhra Pradesh (Urea – 0.67 lakh MT, DAP – 0.42 lakh MT, MOP – 0.08 lakh MT, Complex – 0.93 lakh MT, SSP – 0.24 lakh MT). The supply was being monitored by the State government, he said. These fertilisers were being made available to the farmers in villages through cooperative societies, RSKs, and private shops. 'So far, there is no shortage. All domestic fertiliser manufacturing plants are actively producing, and imports from abroad are also satisfactory,' he added. Nano Urea and Nano DAP, newly developed and technically advanced fertilisers, were also being made available. The Central and State governments were promoting these as 100% alternatives to conventional fertilisers, he said. 'Hence, all farmer brothers are advised to check the MRP (Maximum Retail Price) printed on the fertiliser bag while purchasing, and pay only that price, and collect a receipt from the dealer,' he advised. 'If any dealer violates regulations, creates artificial shortage, diverts fertilisers, or sells them at prices above the MRP, their licence will be cancelled and action will be taken against them under the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985,' he warned.

Technopark employees urge KSRTC to resume weekend long-distance bus services

Thiruvananthapuram: With increasing weekend travel difficulties, those working at Technopark have demanded the resumption of weekend long-distance KSRTC bus services from the campus. These services were halted during the pandemic and never reinstated. The techies are set to meet KSRTC MD on June 7 to address the issue. Before the pandemic, KSRTC operated multiple weekend buses connecting Technopark to major parts of the state. However, after the shift to remote work during the lockdown, the services were discontinued and have not resumed even after most companies returned to hybrid or full office work modes. "Employees are now back in the office, but KSRTC has not resumed the weekend services," said Rajeev Krishnan, convenor of Prathidwani, the socio-cultural and welfare organisation of IT employees in Technopark. "This has forced many to rely on trains, where getting a confirmed ticket over the weekend is a constant struggle. Restoring KSRTC services will ease this burden and encourage safer, more reliable travel options," he added. In response to growing concerns, a delegation from Prathidwani met transport minister K B Ganesh Kumar in Feb this year to raise the issue. The minister assured the delegation that the matter would be examined. However, services were not reinstated. A Thrissur-bound service was started but was also halted, citing an insufficient number of passengers. "Long queues at railway stations, last-minute cancellations and overcrowded compartments have made travel unpredictable and stressful," said Jayakrishna R, joint executive committee member of KSRTC Forum in Prathidwani. Sources within KSRTC acknowledged the growing demand and admitted that resuming these services was under consideration. "We will look into the issue and will come up with a solution soon. The outcome of the meeting with the KSRTC MD will be critical in determining whether the long-pending service gets the green light for reintroduction," said a senior KSRTC official. Govt proposes mandatory online payment system for copyright licence fees

New Delhi: The Centre has proposed a key change to the copyright regime by making it mandatory for owners and licensors of literary works, musical works and sound recordings to set up an online mechanism for collection of licence fees, as per a notification issued by the commerce ministry on Thursday. The move is aimed at streamlining payments and improving transparency in the way royalties are collected and distributed, especially amid the growing reliance on digital modes of content consumption and public performance. Also read: Reddit says Anthropic used its community to train AI without permission, files lawsuit A notification in this regard has been issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on 5 June, seeking public comments on the draft Copyright (Amendment) Rules, 2025 within 30 days, possibly by 4 July. The draft rules insert a new provision—Rule 83(A)—in the Copyright Rules, 2013, requiring that 'all payments of such licence fee shall be processed exclusively through said online system," and explicitly barring any alternative mode of payment. Stakeholders have been given 30 days to submit their objections or suggestions. Any feedback received within this period will be duly examined by the central government before finalizing the rules, the ministry said. The proposal, once finalized, could change the way licensing entities, including copyright societies and aggregators, operate, potentially reducing disputes over manual transactions and non-transparent fee collection. Legal experts said that the amendment reflects a broader policy shift towards digital governance and accountability in the IP rights ecosystem. Also read: Eminem sues Facebook-owner Meta for $109 million over alleged copyright infringement 'The government appears to be moving towards a fully auditable, traceable digital trail for royalty payments, which will benefit both creators and licensees by reducing ambiguity," said Manish K Shubhay, Partner at The Precept-Law Offices. However, questions remain over the operational aspects—whether existing copyright societies will be required to revamp their systems or if the change targets individual right holders. India has seen a steady rise in content licensing for OTT platforms, radio broadcasters, live events, and public performances, making timely and transparent payments a long-standing demand of creators and music labels. On the proposed draft rule, a senior commerce ministry official said that the amendment was designed to 'facilitate efficient royalty flows and curb evasive practices." However, the draft rule does not currently specify the format or standards of the online mechanism, leaving room for further clarifications during the consultation process. 'IPRS welcomes this progressive move aimed at enhancing transparency and streamlining the copyright licensing process. We are pleased to share that IPRS implemented a fully online and digital licensing system nearly five years ago. Today, over 99.5% of our licensing fees for royalties are collected digitally, ensuring ease, accessibility, and transparency for users," said Rakesh Nigam, chief executive officer (CEO) of IPRS (Indian Performing Right Society), a collective rights management organization. Also read: Rahul Matthan: Shield innovation in content creation from intimidation "Our licensing tariffs are publicly available on the IPRS website, enabling users to choose the license best suited to their needs with complete clarity. We also maintain a strict no-cash policy, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and efficiency. This proposed mandate further aligns with the steps IPRS has already taken and will help standardize best practices across the sector for the benefit of creators, users, and the broader copyright ecosystem."
