‘Godman' flees with Rs 20 lakh of lawyer who sought ‘divine help' to double money, Navi Mumbai police file FIR
The incident took place at the apartment of the lawyer's acquaintance in CBD-Belapur on Tuesday, police said.
On Wednesday, the lawyer filed a complaint against Premsing Sadhu Maharaj (40) and the flat owner, Anant Narhari (65). He alleged that Narhari had introduced him to Premsing claiming that he had divine powers to double money by performing rituals. On Tuesday, around 6pm, the lawyer brought Rs 20 lakh cash to Narhari's flat in Gomati Society, Sector 8B.
Premsing instructed the lawyer, his wife, son, and Narhari to go to the bedroom and bolt the door from inside.
Premsing, who was alone in the living room, fled with the cash bag and locked the main door from outside. After two hours, when the lawyer did not get any response from Premsing, he came out of the bedroom and found the tantrik and the cash missing.
Police filed a case against Premsing and Narhari under the relevant sections of the BNS for the offence of cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property and wrongful consignment, along with the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.

A man was assaulted by three people in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal for allegedly refusing to chant religious slogans, police said. All three accused have been arrested. According to the FIR registered on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim, Rizwan Ahmad from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, the incident took place on August 15, at around 4 pm near Dungripanth at a tea shop. 'I went to have tea at Rakesh Lal's tea shop. Inside the shop, there were already three people under the influence of liquor. One of them, named Mukesh Bhatt, asked me to chant 'Jai Shri Ram',' said the complaint. When he refused, Ahmad alleged that he was assaulted, abused, and threatened by Bhatt and his two companions. 'They caught hold of my beard, pulled it violently, and shouted: 'Cut this man's beard!' They made a video of this assault. I was forced to chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Jai Shri Ram'. Somehow, I escaped through the back of the shop and ran towards my vehicle,' he said. In the same complaint, Ahmad alleged that the accused had threatened another man from Saharanpur, Muhtiyar Puttan Islam, on the same day and tried to force him to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. A video of the incident showed the man bleeding after being beaten up by the three accused. While another man filmed the incident, the tea shop owner watched on. The video showed Ahmad being abused throughout and being subjected to communal slurs by the accused. One of the men is seen asking him why he could not chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' on Independence Day, while another says, 'If you want to live in Hindustan, you must chant Jai Shri Ram.' The men say that the government is that of Hindus until Ahmad feebly mumbles the chant. 'We will cut you by halal, we will cut you by jhatka,' one of the accused is heard saying. The accused have been identified as Mukesh Bhatt, Naveen Bhandari, and Manish Bisht. The FIR was registered on Saturday under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 196 (oromoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion…), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) at Srinagar police station in Pauri. 'All three youths have been arrested for assaulting and misbehaving with the victim. They were produced before the court and legal proceedings are underway,' said an official. Bhatt is from Rishikesh, Bisht is from Srinagar, and Bhandari is from Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi.

Ambergris — banned whale vomit — worth Rs 2.98 crore seized in Rural Ahmedabad, two arrested
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad Rural Police on Sunday arrested two men with 2.976 kg of illicit sperm whale vomit (ambergris), police said. Based on a tip-off, the Ahmedabad Rural SOG conducted a raid near the Sarkhej-Sanand Highway, close to Gibpura village that falls under Sanand police station. During the operation, two suspects who were allegedly in possession of ambergris were apprehended. The seized quantity of ambergris weighed 2.976 kg, with an estimated international value of Rs 2.98 crore. 'Two mobile phones worth Rs 2,000 and Rs 700 in cash were also seized,' said Superintendent of Police, Ahmedabad Rural, Om Prakash Jat. The arrested persons include Yogesh Tulsi Makwana (30) from Bhavnagar and Pantukumaar Bharatbhai Patel (37), a resident of Sabarmati, Ahmedabad. 'During questioning, the arrested accused revealed that the ambergris was provided to them by one Bharat Vallabh Sarvaiya, a resident of Bhavnagar, and that they were searching for potential buyers due to its high-market value. The seized ambergris has been verified by the Range Forest Officer and FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) experts, and the accused have been handed over to the Forest Department, Sanand, for legal action under the Wildlife (Protection) Act,' said the Ahmedabad Rural Police. Trade of ambergris is banned in India as the sperm whale is a schedule 1 species under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). With this latest seizure, a total of 7.88 kg of ambergris has been seized in three cases in Ahmedabad district in the last three-and-a-half months. The previous two seizures were made by the Crime Branch of Ahmedabad City Police with 2 kg of ambergris seized on August 6, and 2.904 kg confiscated on April 30. Ambergris, which means gray amber in French, is a waxy substance that originates from the digestive system of the protected sperm whales. Traditionally, it is used to produce perfumes that have notes of musk.

Digital arrest scam mastermind held by Goa cops
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Panaji, Aug 17 (PTI) The Goa Cyber Crime Police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind a Rs 1 crore 'digital arrest" scam, upon his arrival at Delhi airport from Singapore, an officer said on Sunday. He was taken into custody on August 15 and remanded to five days of police custody, according to Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Rahul Gupta. The accused Anil Tripathi, a resident of Marina Bay Financial Centre in Singapore, is the seventh person arrested in connection with the case registered in December 2024 at Marna, Siolim (North Goa), said Gupta. The scam involved a fraudster impersonating a Delhi Crime Branch officer on WhatsApp and coercing a woman into believing she was involved in a police case. The accused allegedly sent forged Supreme Court documents and forced the victim to transfer Rs 1 crore through multiple transactions into three different bank accounts, police said. 'Tripathi was tracked through technical and financial analysis, as well as the interrogation of previously arrested suspects. A Look Out Circular had been issued, leading to his detention at Delhi airport and subsequent transit to Goa," said Gupta. Investigators claimed that Tripathi is a repeat offender. He was previously arrested in Singapore for a fake tech support scam amounting to USD 64,000, in which he funnelled about USD 15,000 into his Indian bank accounts from a senior Singaporean citizen. The current case is registered under Sections 318, 319(2), and 336(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 66-D of the Information Technology Act.
