Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Principal Director, S CDL , said, 'It is heart-warming to see so many alumni and corporate professionals together. SCDL's journey—from starting with the Armed Forces to now reaching over 1 million learners across 36 countries—has been truly inspiring. SCDL originated in 1995 from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies. General Allu Walia suggested to our Founder and Chancellor, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, that some courses should be launched for defense personnel who could not come to Pune to study. This vision led to SCDL's inception. By 2001, civilians and their children began enrolling. After I returned from the USA in 2003, I took charge of SCDL, when the institute had very few students and minimal technology use. Between 2003–04, we introduced e-learning, computerized programs, online and on-demand exams, which enabled us to reach learners across India.'
She added, 'Symbiosis was started by a teacher. When an educational institute is founded by a businessman versus a teacher, there is a huge difference. Today, Symbiosis alumni are present not just across India, but globally.' The Silver Jubilee Spirit
The celebration embodied SCDL's philosophy of 'Education for All' . Whether it was a young professional exploring AI, a homemaker upskilling for remote work, or a retired soldier re-entering civilian life—each story reflected SCDL's inclusive vision . Join the Silver Jubilee Batch

Trump aide accuses India of financing Russia's war on Ukraine

A top aide to President Trump on Sunday accused India of financing Russia's war in Ukraine by purchasing oil from Moscow, remarks that come days ahead of possible White House action to impose major sanctions on countries buying Russian oil. 'What he [Trump] said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing the oil from Russia,' said Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff at the White House and one of Trump's most influential aides. 'People will be shocked to learn that India is basically tied with China in purchasing Russian oil. That's an astonishing fact,' Miller said on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Futures.' Trump threatened last week a 25 percent tariff on India over its purchase of Russian oil, which is set to go into effect on August 7, a White House official told The Hill. A bipartisan bill in the Senate calls for a 500 percent tariff on India if Russia fails to halt its war against Ukraine, but sponsors of the bill said they would support Trump imposing one-fifth of that penalty. While some state-owned refineries reportedly paused Russian oil imports in the wake of Trump's threat, India's Foreign Ministry on Saturday signaled it was not going to accept conditions on which countries it sources energy from. 'We take decisions based on the price at which oil is available in the international market and depending on the global situation at that time,' Shri Randhir Jaiswal, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, told reporters on Friday. 'As far as India-Russia relations are concerned, we have a steady and time-tested partnership.' India bought 68,000 barrels per day of crude oil from Russia in January 2022, but by June of that year, oil imports rose to 1.12 million barrels per day, the Associated Press reported. The daily imports peaked at 2.15 million in May 2023 and have varied since. The country began increasing its imports of Russian oil after an international price cap – imposed to punish Russia over its war in Ukraine – made it a more affordable option over imports of oil from the Middle East.

Antfin to offload entire 5.84% stake in Paytm via Rs 3,803 crore block deal on August 5: Report

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on August 4, 2025, 18:13 IST Antfin (Netherlands) Holding B.V., one of the largest shareholders in One 97 Communications (Paytm), is set to sell its entire 5.84 percent stake in the company through a block deal on Indian stock exchanges on August 5, according to deal terms reviewed by Moneycontrol . The proposed transaction involves the sale of up to 3.77 crore equity shares, amounting to 5.84% of Paytm's outstanding equity. The floor price has been set at Rs 1,020 per share — a 5.4% discount to Paytm's last closing price of Rs 1,078.20 on August 4 on the NSE. The total deal size is pegged at Rs 3,803 crore. This is a pure secondary market transaction with no fresh equity issuance by Paytm. According to sources cited by Moneycontrol , the sale is being termed a 'clean-up trade' with no post-deal lock-in requirement. Citigroup Global Markets India and Goldman Sachs (India) Securities are acting as placement agents for the transaction. The order book opens at 7 AM IST on August 5, with an option to close earlier depending on investor demand. Shares are expected to settle on August 6 on a T+1 basis. Antfin has been steadily reducing its holding in Paytm over the past two years. This latest sale follows earlier block deals, including one in August 2023, when it sold shares worth around Rs 1,371 crore. The move is aligned with Antfin's broader effort to cut exposure, in line with regulatory views concerning long-term Chinese-origin investments.
