16-year-old boy facing OUI charge in North Shore crash that left 13-year-old girl dead
Officers responding to a report of a crash in the area of 352 Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead just before 3 a.m. found a heavily damaged sedan and a teenage girl suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Marblehead Police Chief Dennis King.
The girl was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, Tucker and King confirmed.
The boy, who investigators believe was operating the vehicle, was treated for his injuries, arrested, and charged with OUI.
The names of the two teens weren't released.
Tucker and King didn't share any additional information on the crash.
Video captured by a Boston 25 photographer showed skid marks in the road leading to a stone wall and a pile of dislodged debris.
'It sounded like something like a bomb was going off,' neighborhood resident Christine Caldwell told Boston 25 News. 'Something you hear around the 4th of July.'
A photo shared with Boston 25 showed first responders surrounding the crashed car, which was flipped on its roof.
A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the wrecked vehicle, which appeared to have an out-of-state license plate.
The road was shut down for hours after the crash as investigators gathered evidence at the scene. It eventually reopened around 7:30 a.m.

State troopers assigned to the DA's office are assisting Marblehead police with an investigation.

A tractor-trailer driver was charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter after attempting a U-turn in an 'official use only' area on Florida's Turnpike on Aug. 12, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports. Three people from South Florida died as a result of the fatal crash while traveling northbound on the Turnpike, south of the St. Lucie County northern border. The two-vehicle crash occurred near the Turnpike's 171 mile marker, just south of the St. Lucie County northern border. The commercial tractor-trailer, which was hauling a box trailer, was in the outside lane and attempted a U-turn into an 'official use only' area along the turnpike, according to FHP. As the tractor-trailer crossed 'over all northbound travel lanes' to make the U-turn on the access road, according to FHP, a minivan in the inside lane was 'unable to avoid' it and hit it, becoming wedged under the left side of the trailer. Who was the driver in the Florida Turnpike accident? Harjinder Singh was the driver of the blue 2024 International truck-trailer that caused the crash. On Aug. 16, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles issued a news release that identified the driver as Singh and stated FHP troopers charged Singh with three counts of vehicular homicide before they obtained an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer. "Harjinder Singh is in custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations," said Dave Kerner, the department's executive director, in the Aug. 16 news release. "He will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors. After his state charges, he will be deported." Singh was in the country illegally, having crossed into the U.S. from Mexico in 2018, according to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. 6 people hospitalized as Boston rocked by overnight violence
Boston was rocked by a string of violent incidents overnight that left at least six people hospitalized, authorities announced Monday. Officers responded to a pedestrian crash, a stabbing, and four shootings between late Sunday night and early Monday morning, according to the Boston Police Department. Pedestrian crash The first incident involved a moped driver who was struck by a vehicle at 41 New Chardon Street around 11:30 p.m., police said. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police noted the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene. No arrests have been made. Stabbing Shortly before midnight, at 11:56 p.m., officers responding to a report of a person stabbed outside the Home Run Café at 1269 Massachusetts Avenue found a victim suffering from multiple apparent stab wounds, according to police. The victim was rushed to a local hospital. There was no immediate word on their condition. Police believe the stabbing stemmed from a verbal altercation outside the establishment. No arrests have been made. Four shootings Police said officers were called to the scene of four shootings, all in the city's Dorchester neighborhood A man was shot in the area of 20 Ellington Street in Dorchester around 1 a.m. A man was shot in the area of 55 Kingsdale Street in Dorchester around 2:50 a.m. A man was shot in the area of 2 Barry Park in Dorchester around 2:52 a.m. A person was shot in the area of 98 Talbot Avenue in Dorchester around 2:53 a.m. All of the shooting victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Mother and child struck by car while using crosswalk in Framingham
Shocking video shows the moment a mother and child were struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk in Framingham The pair were struck while crossing the intersection of Waverley Street and Hollis Street around 11:30 a.m., a Framingham police spokesperson said.
