BMW Championship predictions: Picks, odds, sleepers for PGA Tour playoff event
It's the final event before the 2025 Tour Championship and the last chance for the PGA Tour's best golfers to earn a spot on this year's Ryder Cup team. The BMW Championship is once again the second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, but the 2025 tournament returns to Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland. Keegan Bradley, the United States team captain at the 2025 Ryder Cup, won last year's BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club outside Denver, Colorado by one stroke after starting the event as the final golfer to qualify. Only the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings after last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis are included in the BMW Championship field when tournament play begins on Thursday, August 14. The top 30 golfers in FedEx Cup points after the conclusion of the final round on Sunday, August 17, advance to the Tour Championship in East Lake, Georgia, starting on August 21. Caves Valley previously hosted the BMW Championship in 2021, when Patrick Cantlay won the tournament by beating Bryson DeChambeau in a playoff. Rory McIlroy is expected to return to PGA Tour play after skipping the first week of the FedEx Cup playoffs in Memphis, but he is considered a distant second among the favorites behind world No. 1 and FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler, according to oddsmakers. Here's a breakdown of the latest odds, picks and predictions for the 2025 BMW Championship as the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup continues: When does the BMW Championship start? The 2025 BMW Championship is scheduled to start with first-round action on Thursday, August 14. The tournament runs through the final round on Sunday, August 17. BMW Championship odds: Favorites to win 2025 PGA Tour playoff event BetMGM odds for the BMW Championship (as of 3:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 12): BMW Championship 2025 predictions "Aberg has been up and down for most of the year, but he's been trending up as of late. He finished T-8 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T-23 at the Open Championship and T-9 last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He now comes to a course that's long and requires accuracy now that there's thicker rough, which suits his game." "Cantlay currently ranks 10th in SG: Total, which serves as the greatest barometer of performance that we have. That number is better than Ben Griffin, Keegan Bradley, Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns, Andrew Novak, Maverick McNealy and Cameron Young – all players with whom he's vying for a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team – not to mention potential European counterparts in Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick and Aberg. While it feels a bit uncomfortable to be myth-busting for a player who should be near the top-five in the world and instead ranks a meager 22nd, it's still worth pointing out that this year hasn't been the great downfall that some would like to think." "Young won Wyndham and might have hit the ball better last week in Memphis. He's picking a good time to gain some traction." 2025 FEDEX CUP STANDINGS: PGA Tour rankings after first playoff event 2025 BMW Championship: Sleeper picks "Im had a solid week in Memphis, finishing T-17 despite shooting 1-over in the final round. That got him into the next round of the playoffs and he now gets to play a course where he came in third at 23-under in 2021. It won't be quite the birdie fest it was 4 years ago, but Im is positioned to keep his season rolling this week." "We've had exactly one PGA Tour event at Caves Valley and upon first blush, it appears among the most first-shot tracks we'll see on the schedule. ... Top-15 results at Memorial Park, Quail Hollow, Muirfield Village and Renaissance Club all suggest that (Pendrith) is at his best when banging it into orbit is a bigger advantage than at other venues." "Kurt Kitayama hasn't been getting the credit he deserves for how he's played of late. He has finished inside the top 15 in four of his last five starts, including a win at the 3M Open and a T9 finish at last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship. He enters this week ranking fourth in the field in true strokes-gained from tee to green over the past three months. Kitayama also ranks third on the PGA Tour in birdie or better percentage at 25.54%, which is going to prove pivotal in an event where we should expect plenty of low scores." BMW Championship 2025 prize money The total purse for the 2025 BMW Championship is $20 million. The tournament winner is slated to receive $3.6 million. How to watch 2025 BMW Championship: TV channel, live streaming, schedule The 2025 BMW Championship, the second event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs, will be televised nationally on the Golf Channel and NBC. It can be live streamed via ESPN+, Peacock and Fubo, depending on the time. BMW Championship 2025 tee times: Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy together for first 2 rounds
Many of the world's best golfers have descended upon Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, for the 2025 BMW Championship — the second of three legs in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Only 50 players remain, and after this week, only the top 30 in the season-long standings will advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta, where the FedEx Cup Champion will be crowned. Of those 50 golfers, 49 of them are teeing it up in Maryland this week. World No. 10 Sepp Straka withdrew to attend to a private family matter, but at No. 5 in the standings, he'll still qualify for the Tour Championship. But the other nine players ranked in the world's top 10 will be at Caves Valley, including the Nos. 1 and 2, who are set to play together Thursday and Friday. Here's a look at the tee times and best pairings for the first two rounds of the 2025 BMW Championship. Scottie Scheffler will play with Rory McIlroy for the first two rounds of the BMW Championship How about this for a marquee pairing? World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, fresh off a T-3 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, will be seeking his fifth win of the season this week. He's comfortably sitting atop the FedEx Cup Standings, having finished inside the top 25 in all 16 events he's played this year. His playing partner for the first two days is none other than World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, whom we haven't seen since the Open Championship at Royal Portrush nearly a month ago. He skipped the FedEx St. Jude in Memphis last week, which had been the plan for quite some time given his favorable position at No. 2 in the standings. McIlroy, who won the BMW Championship in 2012, enters this week hoping to capture his 30th career victory on the PGA Tour. He won the Masters in April to complete the Career Grand Slam. What time do Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy tee off at the BMW Championship? On Thursday, the pairing of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will tee off at 11:16 a.m. ET for the first round. For Friday's second round, they'll go off at 1:38 p.m. ET. BMW Championship 2025 tee times Here's the full list of tee times for the first and second rounds of the 2025 BMW Championship. J.T. Poston will play alone due to the fact that there are only 49 players in the field after Sepp Straka's withdrawal. Round 1 / Round 2 (All times ET) Justin Rose and JJ Spaun paired together just days removed from thrilling playoff Long time, no see (not). Just a few days removed from a thrilling three-hole playoff to decide the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun will play together for the first two rounds of the BMW. Rose got the better of Spaun in Memphis on Sunday, making birdie on the last two extra holes to claim his 12th career PGA Tour victory and vault himself up to No. 4 in the FedEx Cup standings. Despite the loss, it wasn't all bad for Spaun, who took home a cool $2.16 million and moved up to No. 3 on the 2025 PGA Tour money list. He goes into Caves Valley looking for the third win of his career and his second this season after his unexpected and dramatic victory at the U.S. Open at Oakmont in June. This might not be the last time we see these two dueling, either. After all, both men locked up a spot on their respective Ryder Cup teams with their performances in Memphis. A late Ryder Cup audition for Maverick McNealy? Winless this season, McNealy has still managed to quietly put together a really solid season, racking up six top-10s and making the cut in all but four of his 22 starts. That's been good enough to have him sitting at No. 11 in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings entering this week, but he'll need a really strong performance at Caves Valley to make his case. What better way to do so than playing well in front of the captain himself? Keegan Bradley is facing more than just the normal stress of filling out a Ryder Cup roster. He faces the decision of choosing himself. Right now, Bradley — who won the 2025 Travelers Championship in a thrilling finish — is right in front of McNealy at No. 10 in the standings, meaning if he weren't the captain, he'd likely be a no-brainer pick. But he is, and this week will go a long way in determining who the American frontman will roll with at Bethpage in September. No.1 Scheffler gets new fill-in caddie for PGA playoff event
Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler will have a new fill-in caddie at this week's PGA Tour BMW Championship as he tries to become the first back-to-back FedEx Cup playoff champion. Two-time Masters winner Scheffler, who won this year's PGA Championship and Open Championship, used substitute caddie Brad Payne in Sunday's final round of the St. Jude Championship after his usual caddie, Ted Scott, returned home unexpectedly for a family issue. In this week's second of three Cup playoff events, Scheffler will have Michael Cromie as his bagman for the BMV Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in suburban Baltimore, Scheffler's agent, Blake Smith, told the PGA Tour on Tuesday. Scheffler leads the season points standings and already has earned enough to ensure his berth at next week's Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. Cromie has been the caddie for another US player, Chris Kirk, for several years. Kirk missed out on the top-50 cutoff for this week's tournament, leaving Kirk free to work with Scheffler at Caves Valley. Scheffler was third last week with Payne carrying his bags on the last day but Scott, who began working with Scheffler in 2021, has been the world number one's caddie for all 17 of his PGA tour triumphs. js/ea
