Graham Potter delighted to see Jarrod Bowen lead by example again for West Ham
West Ham head coach Graham Potter heaped praise on Jarrod Bowen after the 3-1 victory at Ipswich.
The Hammers' captain netted for the fourth successive match – in his 200th appearance – after assisting with the game's opening goal, scored by James Ward-Prowse.
Although the relegated hosts equalised after the restart through Nathan Broadhead, Bowen restored their lead soon after, before Mohammed Kudus wrapped up the win with a goal three minutes from the end.
Potter said after the final Premier League contest of the season: 'I thought that his (Bowen) overall performance just sums up him as a person, how he performed today, the energy that he had.
'Everything that we did that was good. I thought it came through him. In and out of possession, helped the team, ran in behind, linked up, he was a real threat and everyone in the stadium could feel that when he had the ball there was a sharpness to him.
'There was a period in the first half where we lost our way a little bit and then we had to defend and then we had to suffer for about 10 or 15 minutes but apart from that I thought that we were in a good place.
'As a team we have to be better. I don't like to rely on individuals to dig you out.'
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna said his opponents showed Premier League experience and 'executed' better then his team in both boxes.
McKenna said: 'I thought it was an even game, (a) well balanced game, we did a lot of good things to compete with West Ham.
'I thought we had more chances in the game than them and we have spoken lots this year about the difference in the category of the games and I think it's probably reflective of the challenges and the level we haven't quite been able to hit.
'So I think against most of the teams in most of the matches this year we were able to compete in terms of our principles and organisation and our football between both boxes.
'We were able to get to good positions in good areas but the execution of top end players in this division…with the experience and the calibre that they have, they execute more often than ours.
'West Ham executed better than us in both boxes and they take the points.'

LONDON (AP) — Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma didn't have the pleasure of finishing off what they started. No problem. South Africa won the World Test Championship and that's all that mattered to them. It was fitting that Markram and Bavuma led the comeback with the bat as South Africa beat Australia by five wickets by completing a run chase of 282 at Lord's on the fourth day Saturday. They were the linchpins of a batting unit considered to be South Africa's weak point and their partnership of 147 — 143 on Friday — tore the game away from Australia after the bowlers dominated the first two days. But their stand was almost over before it began when Bavuma strained his left hamstring on 9 just before tea on Friday. He was hobbling, struggling to run. Coach Shukri Conrad didn't want Bavuma to continue. 'The coaches thought the wiser decision was to let someone else in who could run properly,' Bavuma said. 'But I thought it was important I stayed out here and put up a total. It could've gone the other way and I could've been criticized but we're here now.' Markram called Bavuma's innings of 65 not out on Friday — ultimately 66 on Saturday — an innings to remember as the captain ran raggedly but batted brilliantly. 'We got the best of the batting conditions,' Conrad said. 'Two-eighty was always going to be a stiff task. But the two pros, Aiden and Temba, stood tall and took us through. I was the one who said Temba shouldn't bat (after the injury) but the partnership was critical, and they know better than the coaches.' Bavuma, the most experienced player in the Proteas and the first Black South African to score a century, has been at ease with himself a lot more since Conrad became the coach two years ago. Together, they have won 11 of 15 tests. Bavuma is unbeaten in 10 tests as a captain. Previously, he struggled with being the hope of a nation, anxious trying to prove something to everyone ahead of himself. When he suffered untimely drops in form at the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup, he was savagely abused on social media and in public. He's silenced his doubters for now. So has Markram. Markram's MVP-winning 136, only his second century away from home in eight years, is expected to give the allrounder who opens the confidence to lift his test reputation to the repute he enjoys in T20s and ODIs. Until this match, Markram was the only South Africa captain to win a World Cup, the under-19 version in 2014. His test career has roller-coastered but he was recalled by Conrad and backed by Bavuma. Markram led the team to the 2024 T20 World Cup final but wasn't scarred by defeat when victory was in sight, another tribute to his resilience. 'Aiden is unbelievable, people have questioned his place, but he has character,' Bavuma said. 'He played (the WTC final) in true Aiden fashion.' Markram was controlled and chanceless in a stay of six hours, 23 minutes on a flat pitch. 'It will rank up there as number one,' he said. 'My test career has been hard going, very stop-start. Tottenham set to sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich
Mathys Tel is set to join Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich. The France Under-21 international spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Spurs. The temporary move included a purchase option of €55million, but this has been renegotiated and Spurs are set to make the move permanent in an initial €35m deal, plus a €10m loan fee. Advertisement Tel has made 19 appearances for Tottenham, scoring three goals. He was part of the side that won the Europa League to secure a first trophy for the club in 17 years and Champions League football for next season. Former head coach Ange Postecoglou had been adamant ever since Tel arrived in February that he would become a Spurs player on a permanent basis. 'He'll be a Tottenham player,' Postecoglou said after he signed. 'I think he'll show everyone he's going to be a Tottenham player in the next six months. I didn't bring him here for six months.' Postecoglou was dismissed in June and Thomas Frank has been appointed his replacement. Tel joined Bayern from French side Rennes in 2022 and went on to play 83 times for the Bundesliga club, scoring 16 times and providing seven assists. He became Bayern's youngest ever goalscorer in August of that year, netting in a 5-0 win over Viktoria Cologne to beat the previous record held by Jamal Musiala. Manchester United also expressed an interest in Tel during the January window if he was available to move on loan. Chelsea, who had a long-standing interest in Tel that pre-dated the winter window, also made an enquiry.
