Meghan 'had bold marriage plan and William saw right through it,' says expert

Daily Mirror7 days ago
After reports surfaced claiming the late Queen long had 'doubts' about Meghan Markle, a royal expert has shed fresh light on what he believes was the Duchess of Sussex's plan from day one
One of the closest confidants of the late Queen Elizabeth has reportedly claimed that the former monarch had serious and long-standing doubts about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

The late Queen is said to have been very keen on Meghan when she and Harry first got serious, and both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have never spoken about the former monarch in anything other than glowing terms. Harry was always very close with his grandmother, and Meghan has also spoken repeatedly about the high esteem she held the Queen in and the kindness she showed her when she joined the Royal Family.

However, one of the late Queen's cousins - Lady Elizabeth Anson - who was also a close friend of the former monarch, reportedly revealed to Sally Bedell Smith, an author and journalist, that even in the run up to Harry and Meghan's wedding, doubts began to rear their head in royal circles about the bride-to-be.
The Duke of Sussex was alleged to have been rude to the late Queen in a 10 minute discussion about the wedding, and the former monarch's confidant claims that whilst there was "hope" in royal circles that Meghan was "in love" with Harry, they didn't "quite think" it to be true, adding, "We think she engineered it all."
A royal expert, biographer Phil Dampier, has now told The Sun's Royal Exclusive Show that in his view, these claims are trustworthy because of how close Lady Elizabeth, who died in 2020, was with Queen Elizabeth. The expert added that, in his opinion, this showed that Meghan was using the Royal Family as a "stepping stone" to bigger and brighter things, and that he doesn't believe she ever intended to remain in the UK permanently as a working royal.

"I think, unfortunately, that confirms what I've been saying or thought for the last few years that, sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the Royal Family," the expert said.
"She saw [it] as a stepping stone getting married to Harry... to new fame and fortune.
"And I think that's what initially Prince William was concerned about. And that's why they fell out. And now we are where we are. But to have this confirmed by somebody so close to the Queen is, is is really dynamite."

Meghan and Harry have both said however that they really tried to make life inside the monarchy work, and that when they announced they wanted to step back as full-time working royals in early 2020, they didn't want to make a full break - instead representing the crown on a part-time basis, and still supporting the Queen where possible, whilst making their own money.
However, the senior royals and their aides deemed this half-in-half-out model to be unworkable, and made a full break from the Sussexes, stripping them of their royal patronages, Harry's honorary military positions, and their 'HRH' styles.
After a protracted battle with the Home Office over the removal of his automatic police security whilst in his home country, Harry has made it clear that he doesn't feel safe bringing his wife and two children to the UK without it.
However, journalist and author Omid Scobie revealed in his book Endgame that Meghan "never really felt at home" in the UK, and that after everything that has gone on, she "never wants to step foot in England again".

Harry and Meghan 'frustrated' after details of secret 'peace summit' between Sussexes' spokesperson and King's aide is caught on camera

Harry and Meghan are said to be frustrated after a meeting between their chief of communications and an aide of the King was caught on camera. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last night denied leaking details of the rendezvous between Meredith Maines and the King's communications secretary Tobyn Andreae in London on Wednesday. Liam Maguire, who runs Harry and Meghan's UK public relations team, was also at the meeting at the Royal Over-Seas League near Clarence House – a private members' club, which, somewhat ironically, champions international friendship and of which the King is patron. It is not known whether it was Charles or Harry who arranged the 'peace talks' but pictures of the two sides enjoying drinks raised hopes of a reconciliation. Both Harry, 40, and his father, 76, are said to be keen to reconcile, especially after the King was diagnosed with cancer last year. However, Harry and Meghan are said to have been frustrated that pictures of the extraordinary meeting were published in The Mail on Sunday. Sources close to Prince Harry insisted the Sussexes were not responsible for passing details of the meeting on to the newspaper. A secret meeting took place between Head of Comms for Royal Family Tobyn Andrea and Meridith Maines head of comms for The Sussexes Harry and Meghan are said to have been frustrated that pictures of the extraordinary meeting were published in The Mail on Sunday A source said the summit was only the 'first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction' They acknowledged that having the details splashed across newspaper front pages was not an ideal start to what they had hoped would be a new period of peace, The Telegraph reported last night. Pictures of the meeting show Ms Maines, carrying a black Louis Vuitton bag, arrive by taxi with Mr Maguire at 3:50pm on Wednesday. Mr Andreae turned up minutes later carrying a gift from Berry Bros & Rudd, the official wine supplier to the Royal Family. The trio were later seen chatting over drinks in the 26C (78F) sunshine on a first-floor garden terrace overlooking Green Park. After ten minutes they resumed their discussions inside. A source said the summit was only the 'first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction'. The source told The Mail on Sunday: 'There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.' Royal experts suggested the meeting was 'more of a courtesy call' than peace talks. Royal commentator Ingrid Seward said she believed it was simply a chance for Ms Maines, who was appointed earlier this year, to meet her British counterpart, respected royal aide Mr Andreae. King Charles III walks with his son Britain's Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex as they arrive at St George's Chapel on September 19, 2022, ahead of the Committal Service for Queen Elizabeth II The Palace refused to comment on whether Prince William was aware of the meeting but royal experts said it was unlikely to have gone ahead without his approval. The 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham is one opportunity for a public reconciliation reportedly being discussed by both sides. Buckingham Palace and Mr Andreae declined to comment last night. The Sussexes' representatives did not respond.

Love Island fans hit out at Harry's behaviour amid dramatic villa shake-up

Unsurprisingly, Love Island's Movie Night caused quite the stir in the villa, with the big screen's revelations causing Helena Ford to confront Harry once again - leaving viewers fuming Love Island fans were left raging after Sunday night's episode, after one contestant's "manipulative" behaviour got too much to take. Harry Cooksley, 30, had rubbed viewers up the wrong way with his popcorn-eating, leaving them feeling ill. The ITV show's ever-dramatic Movie Night left islanders reeling after they saw clips of incriminating conversations projected on the big screen for all to see. But it was Harry who left them all fuming, with his partner on the show, Helena Ford, confronting him about his actions. ‌ She told him: "I'm getting fed up with this 'I only do it to Helena because she lets me get away with it'... you're making me look stupid again! Literally every person that comes into the Villa says, 'you let Harry walk all over you.'" ‌ Despite previously breaking up and recoupling, Harry went on to deny intentionally upsetting Helena. But Sunday night's episode saw viewers take issue with the way he continued to eat leftover popcorn while she was trying to speak to him. Shakira, who was speaking with Toni, said that watching him eat was making her feel sick. Fans agreed, taking to social media to share their thoughts. ‌ One wrote: "There's no way I'm trying to have a serious conversation with a man and he's answering with a mouthful of popcorn not even looking at omg." Another commented: "Oh my days, Shakira is so right, Harry is making me feel sick too cause WHY IS HE EATING LIKE THAT IS HE FIVE?" A third fan echoed: "I hate the way Harry ate his popcorn during that conversation with Helena; he doesn't take anything seriously." Someone else typed: "I would have f****** thrown that popcorn over Harry if he was eating like that when I was trying to have a serious conversation with him." ‌ Even Maya Jama had something to say after Harry had been up to his old tricks in Casa Amor. Shortly after she was reunited with Harry, Helena was introduced to dumped islander Rheo Parnell, who had grown close to Harry in Casa Amor. Rheo said: "I don't think I need to explain what he may have been up to over there. Harry strikes again!" Helena asked: "How bad are we talking?" Rheo replied: "Well, I mean there were kisses in bed. There was like ... cuddles." Amid discussion about his latest antics, Harry said that he had been "exploring the connection" whilst in the other villa. Andrada Pop added: "I did ask Harry did he miss Helena and he said he didn't." Helena reacted: "To be fair, I think I did say I didn't miss Harry on the first day either." Helena and Harry were then seen laughing together over the situation. ‌ Rheo said: "Fair enough." Love Island host Maya then shared her thoughts, saying: "I don't know. I probably wouldn't find it that funny if I was in a couple with someone like that but..." Jamie Rhodes said: "Yeah, I can't lie, this is like repeated behaviour. Like you gotta wake up at some point." After confirming he was talking to Helena, he added: "Personally, I think you deserve more respect." Maya - who also confronted Ben Holbrough in the episode over a comment that he made in another scene - said: "Helena, you laugh quite a lot when he's been doing things. Is that to avoid upset or are you genuinely not bothered?"
