Apple Is Quietly Giving iMessage a Simple But Useful New Ability
When iOS 26 rolls out this fall, it will deliver several highly anticipated new features to your iPhone's Messages app.
At June's WWDC, Apple revealed that the Messages app will get typing indicators for group chats, the ability to create polls to vote on, custom backgrounds, a live translation feature, and a dedicated folder to filter out spam messages.
However, now that early adopters have gotten their hands on the pubic betas, it's been uncovered that Apple is adding another highly-requested new ability to Messages. It's one that's been a long time coming.
A better way to copy
To date, a common frustration with the iPhone's Messages app has had to do with its 'Copy' function.
Instead of being able to copy a single word or phrase from an iMessage that somebody has sent you, you're only option has been to copy the entire message. And that's annoying.
After pasting the copied text, be it in another chat or in Google Search, you're then forced to delete the excess text that you didn't want. It's not quick or practical.
But good news! With iOS 26, Apple is introducing a new 'Select' function that allows you to highlight and copy just the specific text you want. Hooray!
To do this, simply long-press on the iMessage you want to copy from and, just like before, a drop-down menu will appear. Only this time, there's a new 'Select' option.
Once selected, you can then highlight the exact word or phrase you want copied and leave out all the rest. Then just tap 'Copy.'
This works across both text messages and iMessages, and promises to be a game-changer for those who wish to copy things like phone numbers, addresses, landmarks, simple words …. or really anything in the confines of a message.
When's it coming?
iOS 26 will be released this September, coinciding with the launch of Apple's iPhone 17 lineup.
For those wanting early access, Apple has already released the public beta of iOS 16.

Whoops! Apple just accidentally leaked 10 new products — here's everything that's coming
A massive new leak in Apple's own software code has reportedly revealed several unannounced hardware devices. In total, 10 new products were found by MacRumors — that's a lot of Apple news to drop in a single day. This includes a new HomePod mini, a new Apple TV, new iPad, new Vision Pro and three new Apple Watches. In fact, that's probably more than Apple will even announce at its iPhone 17 event, which is rapidly approaching. These devices may be available further down the road, so you may need to be patient for some of them. Here are all the devices that have been leaked, along with the information we have about them (for some, the details are very limited). We've heard rumors of a new HomePod mini for some time, and the big Apple leak seemingly confirms that the company is working on one. The code leak references a device with a chip that uses T8310 microarchitecture, the same used in Apple Watch devices. While we don't know the exact model — it could be the S9, S10, or S11 based on all of those using the same technology — we can safely assume it'll be an upgraded version of the S5 chip found in the current HomePod mini, which is getting a bit old now. It's about time for Apple to release an updated Apple TV device, and it appears that it will happen in the relatively near future. Based on the leak's claim that the new device will use an A17 Pro chip, it could represent a significant power boost from the previous generation — the current model features a reasonably powerful A15 Bionic chip. Unfortunately, that's about all we know about this new Apple TV device. Form factor and other performance elements weren't revealed in this leak, but if the device is coming soon, I'm sure additional news will follow. The original Studio Display was released in 2022, so it's time for Apple to introduce a new one. A Studio Display 2 with the codename J427 was spotted in this giant leak, indicating that the monitor is likely part of Apple's plans. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Unfortunately, we have more questions than answers regarding what the monitor will offer, but we're excited to see it next year, as the prevailing rumors suggest it'll launch in early 2026. The iPad mini is Apple's most portable tablet option, making it ideal for a specific subset of buyers. It appears that a new one is on the way, and it features the A19 Pro chip that Apple plans to use in the iPhone 17 Pro models. That means the small tablet should offer stellar speed and performance compared to its predecessor with the A17 Pro chip. The base iPad is one of the best choices for many tablet buyers who don't need the most powerful devices on the market. The 12th-generation entry-level iPad is expected to utilize the A18 chip, according to MacRumors' findings. That would be Apple skipping the A17, as the 11th-generation iPad already features the A16. There have been conflicting reports about whether Apple was giving up on the Vision Pro or making a new one. This code leak seemingly confirms the company is, in fact, working on a new model and that it will have the powerful M5 chip. Other rumors have suggested minimal hardware changes and improvements, but a new chip could be enough to incentivize others to hop on the bandwagon. This should come as no surprise, but new Apple Watches are reportedly on the way — three, according to this leak. There should be an Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch SE 3 at Apple's upcoming event. The code also mentions an Ultra 4 and Apple Watch Series 12, but those are further down the road. A new S11 chip is on the way, although the leak suggests that it won't offer significant performance gains compared to the S10, as it's the same underlying technology as the S10. Still, we're excited to see some new Apple Watch models on the way. Follow Tom's Guide on Google News to get our up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds. Anker's Dual SD and MicroSD Card Reader Drops Below $10, It Feels Like a Giveaway
It disappoints me that in an effort to make our consumer tech thinner and sleeker, manufacturers are opting to remove features that used to come at a standard. The biggest culprit has been Apple starting the trend to ditch the AUX port on our phones. Right now though I want to talk about laptops, of which many have lost their SD card slots in the past decade or so. For photographers and videographers, this a port as important as the USB slot—and now it's gone. Thankfully accessories that can add this compatibility don't come too expensive. Plus right now, Anker has its 2-in-1 SD card reader discounted by 50%. At Amazon, you can grab this dual-slot card reader for just $9, down from $18. That's a $9 savings for a limited time. See at Amazon The Anker SD card reader has two slots built-in. We get one for a standard SD card and one for MicroSD. It's universal in its compatibility. The SD slot works with SDHC, RS-MMC, SD cards, and MMC Micro. Just next to it, the MicroSD slot works with microSDXC, microSDHC, and microSD. The unit is super compact, only about the same size as any old USB flash drive. The card reader can connect to your laptop over USB-C. Kind of remarkable, it can also connect to newer phones or tablets that use USB-C. So you can move photos or videos to and from your phone if you have a need to. The design is phone case friendly with its optimized connector and body shape. It's always a minor inconvenience to need to remove your phone case when wanting to use it with something so it's nice to see that's not an issue here with the Anker card reader. It's plug and play meaning you can hot swap cards as you need to immediately access any of your stored data. Data can transfer crazy fast at 5Gbps. You can sync a picture album or library of music is just seconds. Anker is a huge brand when it comes to any thing and everything consumer tech. Its carved a name for itself with its chargers, power banks, and other accessories. You can expect the same reliability here with its SD card reader. And right now, you can get it for pretty much next to nothing. Amazon normally lists the Anker SD and MicroSD dual-card reader for $18. After the 50% discount, you'll be getting it for just $9. Morgan Stanley says it's turning more bullish on Apple. Here's why
Morgan Stanley is getting more optimistic on Apple stock. "We think the Apple story could be turning the corner," analyst Erik Woodring wrote in a Thursday note. To back this up, Woodring pointed to potentially stronger-than-expected iPhone builds in China and the possibility for estimates to be revised higher, which will allow the stock's multiple to expand and drive shares up. Morgan Stanley's China team recently raised its iPhone builds estimate for September by 8%, saying iPhone sales were stronger than expected in the June quarter, which means supply will need to be replenished. "These positive revisions are a result of better than expected iPhone sell-through in the June quarter, which reduced iPhone channel inventory below normalized levels, and thus created a larger channel fill opportunity in the September quarter, as the positive build revision is entirely iPhone 16 (2M units) and Pro Max (2M units) models," he said. Woodring said this more upbeat forecast is baked into its estimates already, but it could imply more upside ahead in the December quarter, which is typically more volatile than the September period. "Relative to our current 78M December quarter iPhone shipment forecast, this could imply modest iPhone shipment upside, though we'll be able to narrow this range next month when the iPhone 17 is officially launched," he said. Apple has yet to fully roll out Apple Intelligence, its full suite of artificial intelligence integration. Functions like an updated Siri with AI integration has been delayed several times since it was first announced last year. Apple is expected to announce the details of its new iPhone next month. "We are turning more bullish – forward iPhone unit/revenue growth expectations are still relatively muted, many of the same factors that got us bullish last July remain (elongated replacement cycles/pent up iPhone demand, new form factors in the pipeline, structural gross margin tailwinds, etc.), we're past peak tariff risk (Section 232 is a non-event), regulation is not as significant of a near-term headwind as feared (though remains a long-term risk), pricing is an underappreciated lever that Apple can pull for both Product and Services (Apple hasn't raise Services prices in 2 years), and relative to the S & P, Apple is trading in-line with the trailing 5 year average," the analyst said. Apple shares have pulled back more than 7% in 2025. The analyst said most institutions are actually underweight Apple compared with its peer megacap technology stocks. "In our view, Apple is one potential AI partnership away from breaking out," the analyst said.
