GOF: E-waste worth over RM100 million seized, five held
Ulu Kinta GOF Northern Brigade commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said all five Myanmar nationals, including a woman aged between 25 and 45, were arrested during an operation conducted over a five-hour period, starting at 7 pm yesterday.
'Intelligence revealed that the factory had been processing e-waste, plastics, metals, and aluminium for approximately a year. Inspections confirmed that the facility was operating without any approval from the Department of Environment,' he said.
'We are still in the process of gathering more information regarding the owner of the factory,' he said at a press conference held today.
Shahrum added that inspections also revealed the factory had employed foreign workers without valid documentation.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Sections 34A and 34B of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

KOTA BHARU: Two men and their mother have been detained in connection with the seizure of 35kg of compressed cannabis and a pistol in a raid at a house in Kampung But, Ketereh here on Tuesday (Aug 5). "The men tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine while their mother tested negative," he said, adding that all suspects have been remanded for seven days starting Aug 6. In a separate case, Mohd Yusoff said the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 7 seized a revolver, 30 live bullets and a casing from a Thai couple at a house in Pengkalan Kubor on July 25. The married couple, aged 40 and 30, did not possess a valid firearms licence and had entered Malaysia illegally. He said they were detained. – Bernama

Combating drugs, guns smuggling still a priority for Kelantan cops
KOTA BARU: Combating drugs and firearms smuggling continues to be a priority for Kelantan police, said state police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat. He said operations, surveillance and intelligence gathering at the border had been stepped up. "We cannot disclose specific locations frequently used by smugglers. "But we believe these groups often use the illegal jetties along the border to move drugs and firearms into the state," he told a press conference here today. In the latest firearm seizure, Yusoff said the 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) detained a Thai couple and seized a pistol and ammunition during a raid on a house in Pengkalan Kubur, Tumpat on the morning of July 25. "After raiding the house, the GOF members found a pistol, 30 live bullets and a spent cartridges. "They then detained the 30-year-old husband and his 40-year-old wife," he said. He added initial investigations revealed the couple had entered the country illegally. "The husband claimed to have purchased the firearm for RM2,000 for self-defence. "Both suspects tested negative for drugs. The man is a labourer, while the woman is unemployed," he added. He said the couple did not have a licence for the firearm. The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for illegal entry and the Arms Act 1960 for possession of a firearm without a licence.

GOF foils smuggling of 16,000kg pork carcasses in Kelantan
KOTA BHARU: The 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 16,000 kilogrammes of pork carcasses into Malaysia. The interception occurred along Jalan Besar Kampung Apal on the Kelantan-Terengganu Highway during a routine inspection. Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid confirmed the lorries lacked valid documentation for the meat. Authorities suspect the pork originated from Thailand and was destined for local markets in Malaysia. Three individuals, including two drivers and a lorry attendant, were arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt. All suspects are Indian nationals aged between 23 and 46 years old. The seized items, including the two lorries, have an estimated total value of RM1.04 million. The Terengganu Veterinary Department has taken custody of the confiscated goods for further investigation. The case is being probed under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953, which regulates the import and export of animal products.
