Catherine Zeta-Jones insists owning 4 homes is ‘not excessive'

News.com.aua day ago
Catherine Zeta-Jones doesn't consider owning four homes 'excessive.'
The Mask of Zorro star and her husband, Michael Douglas, own four properties — two homes in New York, one in Canada and one in Spain, Page Six reports.
'I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it's not excessive, it's very comfortable,' the 55-year-old Oscar-winner told the Sunday Times.
The Wednesday actress also said she wasn't afraid to splurge on non-practical items.
'I go to all the vintage stores in Paris,' she shared. 'I buy things that you are probably never going to wear, like a gorgeous cape, just great pieces.
'I am loving classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment. I get excited about evening dresses.'
'For me, a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans. Spending £200 ($A416) on a white T-shirt? Nah,' she continued.
'But when it comes to couture, beautiful beading, the artistry … I love the theatre of fashion.'
Sad life of 'flat broke' Whitney before death
Zeta-Jones passed her love of fashion and for the finer things to her 22-year-old daughter, Carys.
'She loves my closet,' the mother of two told the outlet. 'I have probably the biggest Fendi Baguette bag collection, and she's just found more in my mum's house. I've got everything from denim to pearl to sequins.'
A Fendi Baguette bag currently retails for up to $US11,500 ($A17,700).
'Carla Fendi used to give them to me all the time, right when they were hot potatoes,' she added.
Zeta-Jones also joked about her and Douglas, 80, keeping their Oscars in separate houses.
She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2003 for her role as Velma Kelly in Chicago, and Douglas won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Gordon Gekko in 1988's Wall Street.
'Mine is in the country house in New York, Michael's is in the apartment in New York,' she revealed.
'We keep them apart, just in case, you know, there isn't like hanky-panky going on there.'
The Welsh actress noted that she and her husband respect each other's space. They've been married since November 2000 and share two kids together: Carys and their 25-year-old son, Dylan.
'We don't listen to the crap that is written about us, that's the main thing,' she said of their relationship.
'And we respect our space, we're independent spirits. We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart.'
'We're not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves,' she continued. 'I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.'
Zeta-Jones addressed Douglas telling Variety last month that he's 'purposely' stepped away from his acting career and has no intentions of going back.
'Michael has definitely earned the chance to slow down,' Zeta-Jones commented, noting that he now plans to play a lot more golf.
'But I never say never. He's his father's son and loves to work — let's just say, 'retirement' is a flexible concept.'

Michael Franti admits cheating on wife but denies young singer's claims of grooming and sexual misconduct

Roots musician Michael Franti is continuing his American tour amid the fallout of being accused of grooming and sexual misconduct by a young Spanish-American artist. Franti, who last played in Australia in November and is a regular performer at the Byron Bay Bluesfest, was not named by singer songwriter Victoria Canal in her lengthy social media post last week detailing her accusations. Canal said she was 19 when a 'very powerful, decades-older man [who] plucked me out of the internet, and college, and invited me on my first professional opportunity' eight years ago. She wrote that the 'family man' touched her while she asleep in her bunk on the tour bus and took photos of her without her consent. 'Behind closed doors, this person has a history of incredibly damaging behaviour across the board, and has a team of enablers around him who have fiercely protected his image, perpetuating this behaviour for decades,' she wrote. Canal said the 'behaviours' progressed over a year and 'has had a years-long effect on my intimate life'. 'At the end of it, this person verbally admitted to me (while I was in an extremely vulnerable position) that getting me in this position had been his plan all along — from the moment he saw my face on the internet — a confession that froze me in time, and debilitated my body from feeling pleasure and freedom for years and years,' she wrote. She said her post came after memories of the older artist's misconduct were triggered when she was assaulted by a stranger in a rehearsal space earlier this year. Franti, 59, responded to Canal's post a week later, admitting to a 'romantic relationship outside my marriage' but insisted it was 'completely consensual.' 'I vehemently dispute any version of the story that says otherwise' and expressed regret for the damage the affair caused to his marriage with wife Sara. 'I will however take full accountability for not better recognising the power imbalance as she was younger than me, and I was the headliner on tour.' It was confirmed by Variety that he has split with his longtime managers at Activist Artist Management in the wake of Canal's allegations. The 'Soulshine at Sea' music cruise in November, which Franti was to headline, has also been cancelled by organisers after other acts on the bill informed fans they were dropping out of the event in the wake of Canal's post. But Franti is continuing his current American tour, performing in California the day after his social media response to the claims. Canal insisted her original post would be her only comment on the matter but after receiving 'many stories about the same person', she shared some of them with consent on her Instagram channel. Some of the posts referenced incidents stretching back 25 years while others said they had been forced to sign an NDA after dealings with the unnamed artist. 'Let this be a shedding of light on my own discovery – that I am not the only victim of this person,' Canal wrote. Franti and his wife Sara also operate the luxury Soulshine Resort in Bali which began as a yoga retreat in 2011.

Tennis world goes nuts for Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu pairing at US Open

The tennis world has gone into frenzy after Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu teamed up at the US Open, as rumours continue to swirl that they may be the sport's newest power couple. In their first round match at the revamped US Open mixed doubles, Jack Draper and his partner Jessica Pegula overcame Raducanu and Alcaraz 4-2, 4-2 – with sets shortened for the new $1.6 million event. But despite losing comprehensively, Raducanu and Alcaraz kept spirits high, bumping fists, sharing embraces and laughs throughout. Raducanu and Alcaraz's pairing – dubbed Raducaraz by some fans – also fuelled relationship rumours as fans speculated they may be more than just friends. 'Am I watching the start of a love story?' one person wrote on X. 'I think this could be tennis' hottest new couple,' another said. While a third wrote: 'That was so much fun to watch'. Rumours of the pair dating have swirled since the Brit was pictured cheering on the Spaniard at Wimbledon in June. Since then each of the pair's social media pages continue to be flooded with questions about a potential bubbling romance. Such is the interest in the pair that worldwide search interest in the pair is up 2.2% in the last three months. However, the pair have denied being together and instead insist they are 'just good friends'. 'I guess I'm like, it comes with the territory, people being so curious,' Raducanu told The Guardian ahead of her doubles match with Alcaraz. 'I think they're more curious about this news than any tennis results and tennis news. 'But I just keep myself to myself, my private life to one side. 'It's always funny when people try to find something out, but I try not to read into it so much.' The British No. 1 has returned to form in recent months, but she narrowly missed out on being a seed for the US Open singles event, which begins next week in New York. Alcaraz will enter the US Open draw as the second seed.

The 33-year-old social media sensation's death was confirmed by Westchester County Police Department in New York, who said the model was found dead on the Cross County Parkway at the weekend. Following a preliminary investigation, police determined that Longosta died of gunshot wounds and was 'likely targeted for violence,' according to a statement shared on Facebook. 'The woman found deceased in her car on the Cross County Parkway on Sunday died as a result of gunshot wounds, the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed today,' police said in a statement. 'Her death was not a random act. 'The homicide remains under investigation by detectives from the General Investigations Unit. Assistance has been provided by other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies during the continuing investigation.' Longosta has more than 566,000 followers on Instagram, where she regularly posted fashion and modelling content. 'You supported me in everything,' he said. 'My sister. NY won't ever be the same. I loved you.' The restaurant where Longosta worked, Ikon New York, also paid tribute to its employee. 'Today we lost our shining star,' the team said. 'Our hearts are broken. Your joy, your humility, and the way you treated everyone with so much care always made you stand out. Thank you for giving so much love and support to our home, which also became yours. 'We still can't believe it… you were our smile, our happiness. We love you and we will miss you forever.' The restaurant announced it will temporarily shut its doors out of respect for Longosta.
