SANDAKAN: Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih advised the public against falling for viral links circulating on messaging apps and social media offering applications for the People's Housing Project. (PPR) He said remaining vigilant is vital to avoid becoming victims of online scams. The public must verify PPR-related information directly with the Ministry, local councils or district offices, he said after officiating the 2025–2027 swearing-in and appointment ceremony for 18 new Beluran District Councillors on Thursday, attended by Assistant Rural Development Minister Datuk Samad Jambri. The new councilors are urged to prioritise community development and council performance. Isnin was proud of the achievements of various district councils, including Beluran, which reported higher revenue than last year. Samad hoped the newly appointed councilors would work hard together. 'Carry out your duties well, especially in helping the community and supporting the development of Beluran,' he said. Earlier, Isnin highlighted the importance of councilors in meeting the needs of the people. He was also proud that the Beluran District Council achieved a 5-Star rating in the Local Authority Star Rating System and the Human Resource Management Information System (SM2) for 2024. The council won a Silver Award in the Landscape Competition at the Sabah Landscape Architecture Awards (SLAA) 2024 and has maintained a Clean Audit Certificate with no remarks for its financial statements from 2008 to 2023.

Fahmi covers relocation costs for Pantai Dalam fire victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has pledged to cover the relocation costs for 14 families displaced by a recent fire in Pantai Dalam, moving them into Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) People's Housing Project (PPR) units as temporary accommodation. He said the arrangements were finalised following discussions with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif. "All requirements for the relocation have been approved. I visited the 14 families currently staying at the temporary relief centre. Alhamdulillah, in a short time, Dr Zaliha and Datuk Seri Maimunah approved their move into transit homes for those eligible. "Following the approval, my office also received cash contributions from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), which will be distributed to the affected families," he said during his speech at the Arts and Culture Promotion Programme at PPR Kerinchi today. The fire, which broke out around 11pm on Aug 8, destroyed 14 squatter houses and four shop lots, including Mydin Mart and Pasaraya Karnival. Fahmi said DBKL would cover six months' rent for the families, while his office would absorb the cost of the deposits. "I will cover all deposits imposed by DBKL so the families will not need to pay anything. We want to help them rebuild their lives in a supportive environment after their homes were destroyed in the fire," he added.

Avoid vigilantism over Jalur Gemilang issues, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been advised against taking vigilante action over offences involving the Jalur Gemilang flag. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stressed that investigations and legal proceedings must be left to the authorities. 'Don't act as the police, lawyers and judge (as) it's wrong, leave it to the police to investigate, leave it to the AGC to prosecute and leave it to the courts to make a decision,' he said. Fahmi spoke after launching the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign at Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Bahasa Melayu. He acknowledged reports of individuals being questioned by police after a rally aimed at 'teaching' certain parties. Fahmi encouraged Malaysians to address Jalur Gemilang-related issues constructively. 'If we see a Jalur Gemilang that has fallen, we should raise it back up. If it has faded, we replace it with a new one. If it's improperly flown, we correct it with our own hands.' He emphasised the need for civil behaviour during the national month celebrations. The event featured a Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy with 73 vehicles from various agencies. A Safe Internet campaign was also held to promote ethical online practices among teacher trainees. Jalur Gemilang kits were distributed under the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' initiative. - Bernama
