We're amazed at the Bugatti, or something looking a lot like one, was built by some guys. They chopped up three cars and put a ton of fabrication work into the creation, which is impressive. Sure, only someone who doesn't know Bugattis would think their creation is one, or looks like the real deal. But for us gearheads, we know how much talent it requires to build something that looks this good. The guys use a Mitsubishi Eclipse as the platform vehicle for the creation. You can pick one up for cheap these days, so why not? Then they got to work, grafting parts from a GAZ-21 Volga and BMW 6 Series to start getting the shape down.
They had to modify the chassis to accommodate the larger, more shapely body as it evolved. These guys were also smart enough to fabricate attachment points for the new body parts, ensuring they could adjust fitment so there weren't unsightly, uneven panel gaps.
You can always tell the experience of a builder by how closely they pay attention to details.
That also went into the fabrication of fiberglass body parts. Even the active rear wing and retracting hood ornament were added to the vehicle, mimicking a real life Bugatti.
To match the dramatic looks of the quasi hypercar, they decided to juice up the Eclipse's powertrain some by replacing it with the 6 Series'. We think that was a solid move.
By building their own Bugatti, these guys saved themselves millions. They also got to show off to the world their skills.
Building a car from scratch would take forever, especially if you're doing it all using hand tools in your garage. That's why most people at least borrow the powertrain and chassis from an existing ride. You might call that cheating, but then so would be baking bread at home using flower purchased at the store instead of growing your own wheat, harvesting it, and milling it by hand.

Oof: NASCAR Driver Connor Zilisch Biffs It On Victory Lane

Read the full story on Backfire News By now a lot of people have seen the video of NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch falling off his car on Victory Lane. After biffing it headfirst into the ground, it seems like he knocked himself out as people rushed to his aid in what should have been a moment of the footage, you can see his foot slipped, maybe from the champagne spraying around or maybe from the netting he was standing on, with that foot falling inside his car. The result was he fell and was unable to get a foot under him. The impact broke his collar bone. But the driver said CT scans of his head showed no damage there, which is the bigger concern by far. Now, the big question is will the broken collarbone keep Zilisch from racing for a time? With six victories under his belt so far this season, the young driver is red hot, so we'd hate to see him lose a beat. The last time Zilisch missed a race was after his big crash at Talladega when he suffered a back injury. He has two weeks to get healthy enough for Daytona on August 22, so perhaps he will continue vying for the championship. This whole incident is a great metaphor for life. Oftentimes your big victories, your highest highs, are followed by some catastrophic lows. But we think this isn't going to be the only high in Zilisch's career, so he better be careful in the future. We fear this incident might lead to NASCR overreacting and banning some of the celebratory traditions of the motorsport. Hopefully that isn't what happens, but with how things have been going the past several years, or maybe about two decades, we just wouldn't be surprised. Image via BenTheBaneDavis/X

2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V first drive: The fastest V-Series ever goes electric

The first electric car in Cadillac's high-performance V-series, the 2026 Lyriq-V makes a strong case that electricity is the ideal power for high-performance and luxury vehicles. Forget for a moment, the convenience of having a genie from the electric company fill your battery nightly as you sleep ― it's really an app, but I'm a romantic. Forget that your Gucci purse will never again suffer smudges from hands soiled by oil or gasoline. Forget the bugaboo of EV battery range. At full throttle, a Bugatti famously burns through a tank of gas in less than 15 minutes. You think EV owners have range anxiety? That's range anxiety. The Lyriq-V can cover 285 on a charge. Electricity wins because EVs seamlessly blend thrilling performance and smooth, quiet power delivery. The Lyriq-V morphs from elegant and understated to a track-ready beast at the push of a button. In dealerships now, it's also the fastest V-series ever, reaching 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. A second electric Cadillac V-series, the smaller Optiq-V, arrives in dealerships this fall. Car shopping research: The cheapest hybrid car of 2025 costs under $24K. Here's which one it is 2026 Cadillac Lyriq trim levels and prices Luxury: $59,200 Sport: $59,700 Premium Luxury: $63,200 Premium Sport: $63,700 Signature Luxury: $67,800 Signature Sport: $68,300 Lyriq-V: $78,595 Lyriq-V Premium: $83,795 Source: Edmunds. Prices exclude $1,395 destination charge What makes the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V special? The Lyriq-V is one of a handful of EVs that are setting a new standard for high-performance midsize luxury SUVs. It gets standard all-wheel drive from two motors producing 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque when the driver summons 'Velocity Max' mode by holding a button on the steering wheel. In addition to freeing the motors and battery from all restraint, Velocity Max delivers launch control for ultimate straight-line performance. The same button allows the driver to summon V-mode for canyon carving and track days. V-mode adjusts the continuously variable dampers, traction control, steering, throttle response and more. You can create a personal drive mode or choose among programmed ones using a big bright touch screen that's part of a 33-inch array of gauges, displays and controls. In addition to adjustable dampers, the Lyriq-V boasts a lowered suspension with components stiffened 10% to 600% from the base Lyriq, which was already a sporty and responsive SUV. Other features include 22-inch summer tires, a 19.2 kW charging module for quick 240-volt charging at home, performance sounds, Brembo front brakes and continuously variable electric power steering. Lyriq-V competitors include the Audi SQ8, BMW iX M70, Mercedes AMG EQE SUV and Porsche Macan electric. 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V key features Interior comfort and features The Lyriq-V's five-passenger interior is roomy and comfortable. The front seat offers supportive and comfortable Nappa leather sport seats. There's open-pore wood trim with backlit accents, brushed aluminum trim, a wide range of ambient lights and three-zone climate control. The 23-speaker AKG audio system delivers the immersive experience of Dolby Atmos. A multicolor head-up display incorporates augmented reality for navigation by indicating turns with glowing arrows projected onto the landscape in front of the driver. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a convenient wireless charging pad. The cargo compartment is accommodating, with a practical underfloor compartment. There's no front trunk; the electric motor and suspension fill the space. Driving impressions The Lyriq is a speedy and responsive vehicle even without V trappings. The upgraded suspension, steering and power take it to another level. Despite weighing nearly 3 tons, the SUV feels lithe and precise. It's planted and level on twisting country roads and amenable to crowded parking lots. On the highway, the V is quiet, comfortable and speedy, delivering real-world range that is in line with its official range. The Lyriq's long nose and roof create a sporty profile that's emphasized by big wheel openings with subtle fender flares and a steeply raked rear window. Its 6.1 inches of ground clearance is 0.9 inch less than the standard Lyriq, accentuating the V's sporty character while preserving easy entry and egress. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system continues to add hands-free roads. Improvements for '26 include subtle lane centering in hands-on mode, increasing safety and reducing the driver's cognitive load even when hands-free driving isn't available. What could be better? The Lyriq has a couple of minor ergonomic shortcomings. Stylish, but narrow and oddly located, air vents in the instrument panel are harder to direct to the driver than typical vents. Cooling could have been better during a run of hot humid days. Passenger-side air flow was satisfactory. Headliner-mounted speakers contribute to outstanding audio quality, but their locations prevent the ceiling mounted grab handles many SUVs offer. I frequently prop my elbow on the door and hold them on long drives. Why buy a 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V? The Lyriq-V delivers exceptional power, handling, style and technology in a comfortable and accommodating package. With a base price just under $80,000, the Lyriq-V undercuts German rivals by tens of thousands of dollars. Despite that, the Lyriq-V's looks, comfort and features are as good as anything on the road. It's not just the quickest, but one of the best entries in V-series history. 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V at a glance All-wheel drive midsize electric luxury-performance SUV Seats five Base price: $78,595 All prices exclude destination charges. This Bugatti Divo Was Showcased at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Now It Could Fetch $9 Million.

When the 1,500 hp Bugatti Divo was named Robb Report's Best of the Best in the Hypercar category for 2019, we described it as 'a four-wheeled hyperbole . . . as elusive as it is superlative.' Those words are equally relevant today, as the Divo remains a milestone in combining straight-line performance with lateral dynamics. On August 15, one of the only 40 examples made will mark the model's debut at auction when it crosses the block through Bonhams|Cars. Nearly as noteworthy is that it's being offered without reserve. The car's coverage in our award-themed June/July print issue six years ago quoted Bugatti's then president, Stephan Winkelmann, who stated, 'I wanted to test my team, and myself, to develop more emotional performance and a completely new design,' regarding the missive for developing the Divo. 'We wanted to highlight the sporty side.' More from Robb Report U.S. Wine Exports to Canada Have Plummeted 97% Meet the Bugatti Brouillard, a New One-of-a-Kind Hypercar Why the Renault R5 Turbo Is the Hottest 'Hot Hatch' Ever Made With its tremendous output coming from an 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 engine with 1,180 ft lbs of torque, the Divo has been engineered with a focus on cornering, which is why its top speed has been 'limited' to a still staggering 236 mph compared to the Bugatti Chiron's 261 mph max. What sets the Divo apart is its 1,005 pounds of downforce—198 pounds more than the Chiron—and lateral acceleration that can deliver 1.6 g. According to Bugatti's press release at the time, these all factor into the Divo beating the Chiron by eight seconds at the Nardò circuit in Italy. To realize this enhanced level of athleticism over the Chiron, the Divo's chassis, steering, and suspension were fine-tuned for greater responsiveness, and aerodynamic improvements included new front and rear diffusors and a wider, adjustable rear spoiler. Fittingly, the model's emphasis on control while being pushed to the extreme is reflected in the selection of its name, an homage to racer Albert Divo. A driver for the marque's factory team from 1928 through 1933, Divo won the Targa Florio endurance race back to back during that period. This example of the model has had only two stewards since leaving the factory in Molsheim, France. It has also been showcased at the Petersen Automotive Museum's 'Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme' exhibition, which ran from December of 2021 until May of 2023. In 2024, it was acquired by the consignor, who has ensured that less than 800 miles have been put on the odometer in total. 'Here at Bonhams|Cars, we are delighted to be the first auction house globally to bring to market one of the rarest hypercars ever produced, the Bugatti Divo,' says Bonhams specialist Louis Frankel. 'It is incredibly rare that anyone ever has the opportunity to see one, let alone purchase one, so being able to bring this car to market is hugely exciting.' Yet this Divo is not the only exquisite automotive outlier that Bonhams|Cars will showcase at the Quail Auction during Northern California's upcoming Monterey Car Week. Among the over 100 lots being presented, the Divo is one of 24 cars comprising what Bonhams has dubbed the Future Classics Collection—contemporary apex automobiles—all being offered without reserve. Included in what's estimated to be a roughly $30 million assemblage is a 2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport expected to fetch up to $4.25 million, a 2017 Pagani Huayra Roadster with a high-end estimate of $3.6 million, and the 2022 Apollo Intensa Emozione 'Ocean Dragon' valued at between $2.5 million and $3.5 million. As for the Divo, though each had a starting price of $5.8 million when new, this pristine example is now expected to garner between $7 million and $9 million—its high-performance acumen seemingly extending to its return on of Robb Report The 2024 Chevy C8 Corvette: Everything We Know About the Powerful Mid-Engine Beast The World's Best Superyacht Shipyards The ABCs of Chartering a Yacht Click here to read the full article.
