Bradley Walsh said 'they sadly let me go' as he opened up about a major setback earlier in his career.
The 65-year-old is known to many now as the popular host of ITV quiz show The Chase. Before that he appeared on a host of TV shows, including a two-year spell as Danny Baldwin on Coronation Street.
But Bradley's career could have taken a very different turn early on. Aged just 18, in 1979, he signed a professional contract with football team Brentford.
His time as a professional footballer saw him going on loan at Barnet as well as having spells with Tring Town, Boreham Wood and Chalfont St Peter. Although, at 22, he was forced to give up his playing career after suffering an ankle fracture.
On the Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? podcast in 2024, Bradley opened up about the moment he signed for Brentford as well as being let go by the club. He explained: 'I was playing locally for my mum's hospital team, she worked in a hospital, and I was playing in a match, I'd played for the county and things like that, and I'd been a Watford junior, and then, unbeknownst to me, I'd been watched for about a month.

'I'd had a good month and it was the groundsman who was the chief scout at Brentford and he came and watched me and he gave me the opportunity to play on a Monday evening against Southend United and I scored the winning goal.
'That was it, and I signed on for two years. I played about 50 games and I scored two goals.'
Bradley says he '100 percent' would have had a 'full football career' if he could. He believed he was 'on the brink' of making it through to the first team before he started suffering with injuries.
He added: 'Sadly, I suffered a quite bad injury, I was always recovering from an injury, and that's one of the reasons they let me go in the end. I was just too injury prone.'

After his football career came to an end, Bradley became a bluecoat at Pontins before working as a stand-up comic. It was then he was recruited by what was Anglia Television.
His first venture into presenting game shows was with Wheel of Fortune in 1997. In 2020, Bradley fronted a Christmas edition of Blankety Blank.
The programme was a hit, watched by 5.26 million people, prompting the BBC to commission a full series. The show sees a panel of six celebrities attempting to help a contestant fill in the blanks and win prizes.
This week's famous faces are Sue Perkins, Iain Stirling, Dermot O'Leary, Naga Munchetty, Ellie Simmonds and Layton Williams. Blankety Blank will air tonight (June 21) at 8pm on BBC One.

However, she hit back at the suggestion, telling The Mirror: "I love food way too much," to ever even consider suppress her appetite with a 'fad' like weight loss jabs. "There's a new fad every other year. It just so happens that this is the fad this time around, and after I have lost weight. The thing is, it just coincided with the time when I had my daughter Lucia, and I had this baby weight and everyone was commenting on it. Had it of been a few years prior, everyone would have been saying I had a BBL, or some magical liposuction that completely transformed how I looked," she shared. She went on: "We're in the Ozempic season at the moment, and I can't help how people perceive me. I believe that Ozempic is an appetite suppressant, and those are not new. It's just essentially a new name for something that gives the same results. "This has been something that has been around for 20 or 30 years - it's just another pharmaceutical company that have been able to market it in this new way and everyone is freaking out over it. In a couple of years time it will be something else, mark my words." It is noted, however, that Ozempic is not strictly a weight loss injection as it is a medication designed to treat type 2 diabetes with weight loss an unintended side effect.

Former Love Island star Zara McDermott has spoken about deciding to take a step back from social media, with the update coming ahead of her new documentary's release TV presenter Zara McDermott has opened up about taking a step back from social media. The former Love Island star shared the reasons for her absence in a message to her fans this week ahead of her latest documentary's release. Zara, 28, has worked on several projects for the BBC, including having fronted various documentaries, since rising to fame as an islander on the ITV2 show. Her next one, the two-part To Catch a Stalker, is set to launch on July 1. She's now thanked fans for their support and revealed that she has "taken a bit of a step back" from social media, which she said can feel like a "quite heavy" space, lately. Zara said she had focused on work and being present instead. In a message on Instagram yesterday, she wrote: "I also just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who messaged me with regards to the story I posted the other day. If you didn't see it; I spoke about developing my next documentary and how I've been thinking of how to create a project about domestic abuse, coercive control and tech abuse." Zara said that she received many responses. She shared: "I had thousands of messages and I'm still going through them, but I wanted to say the biggest thank you ever." She added: "It's so nice speaking to you all because I've definitely taken a bit of a step back from socials to focus on my documentaries & other work / just focusing on being more present recently. Social media feels quite a heavy & negative space sometimes ... so to be able to feel like we can work together to do something super positive is a great feeling. Thank you again." The presenter continued by expressing her gratitude for the support she has from fans. She said in her message this week: "Forever grateful for all of you who continue to support the work that I do. It really means SO much!" Zara went on to express concern over misinformation and people "hiding" behind social media accounts. Charles makes changes to favourite royal home for George, Charlotte and Louis
King Charles has always been known to put his own stamp on his home - but in recent years, experts reveal in a new documentary, he has also made sure to create spaces that his grandchildren can enjoy when they come to stay A childhood inside the Royal Family is undoubtedly a pretty unique experience - and as a thoughtful grandfather, King Charles has gone out of his way to make it even more special. In a new documentary about one of Charles's all-time favourite royal residences - Birkhall - experts have revealed that he has gone the extra mile to ensure his grandchildren enjoy coming to visit. The documentary, called Birkhall: The King's Secret Sanctuary, explores just why this relatively modest lodge house located close to the imposing Balmoral Estate holds such a special place in Charles's heart. Whenever Charles is seen with his grandchildren, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, six, it's clear that he shares a special bond with the Wales children - who all supported him at his coronation in 2023, with George even taking on a prestigious role as page of honour. The monarch is also said to be close with his step-grandchildren, who are said to "adore him". Tom Parker Bowles, Camilla's son, has said they have nicknamed the King 'Uppa' and Camilla has revealed that they love when he tells them stories, because he really commits to doing the voices for each character. Birkhall is, according to the experts, the real "marital home" of Charles and Camilla - it's even where Charles popped the question and asked his long-time love to become his wife. So it's no surprise that the couple worked to make it family-friendly, so their whole brood of grandchildren on both sides have a great time playing when they visit. There are three ways in particular that Charles has ensured the children will have the same good memories of Birkhall as he does, the experts revealed in the documentary. Firstly, a Wendy House that the late Queen - then-Princess Elizabeth - and her sister Princess Margaret played in as little girls still stands in the ground of Birkhall, and Charles has ensured it is still in good enough condition for the little ones in this generation to enjoy - nearly a century later. Jennie Bond, former royal correspondent for the BBC, explains, "It's really cute, it's so beautiful, it's got this thatched roof, but it's thatched with heather, and the walls are covered in bark, it looks like there should be a fairy in there or a gnome living at the end of your garden. Expert Mark Lane explained, "Just to think that Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret used to play there, have a wonderful time there, and now all the rest of the grandchildren can continue to play in the garden I think is a wonderful thing." He also noted that Charles has "always said that" he wants to keep "family tradition going through" - and it definitely seems to be working. But Charles hasn't stopped there, Mark reveals, there is a seriously exciting other feature he has designed for the youngsters, "So there is a bouncing bridge, and he [Charles] says 'You've just got to bounce on this bridge because it's so much fun'". Finally, the expert revealed, "There are small strawberries that kids can pick at the side of pathways, and he just always hopes that when Prince George has grown up, he too will love the trees and love Birkhall. Charles first spent time at Birkhall when he was, himself, just a little boy - when it belonged to his "beloved" grandmother, the Queen Mother. She took over the property in the 1950s, and she and Charles were always very close - with one royal author even saying that he perhaps saw her more like a mother figure than the late Queen herself, due to his mother's busy schedule as monarch often meaning she was away from him for long periods of time when he was a young boy. The experts explained that during his unhappy school years at Gordonstoun in Northern Scotland, he travelled as often as he could to see his grandmother at Birkhall - and even now they claim it is one of the only places Charles feels real "freedom". After the Queen Mother died in 2002, the property passed to Charles, and he and Camilla carefully renovated it, making sure to put their own stamp on the place, whilst keeping a sense of his grandmother present too, with Charles left utterly "devastated" by her death. This includes keeping some of her prized decorations in place, but also another heartbreaking tribute - the Queen Mother's coats still hang by the door, as if she would be back at any moment.
