CBS Sports predicts two Steelers to have breakout seasons in 2025
Two unsung Steelers from the 2023 NFL Draft are expected to have their breakout years in 2025.
According to CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso, Steelers CB Cory Trice and TE Darnell Washington are two of the third-year players most likely to break out this season — and for good reason.

Trapasso has high expectations for Trice in 2025, predicting that if the third-year corner can stay healthy, he could eventually start outside opposite Joey Porter Jr. While this would obviously force veteran CB Darius Slay Jr. into the slot, the switch may prove beneficial for the 34-year-old corner in the long run.
As for Washington's predicted breakout, Trapasso sees the big-bodied Steeler becoming a Marcedes Lewis-esque tight end for Aaron Rodgers — serving as a solid red zone option as well.
Trice and Washington both flashed moments of greatness last season and have more than exceeded expectations based on where they were drafted — but the same can't be said for former 2023 first-rounder OT Broderick Jones, who's staring down a make-or-break year in 2025.

George Kittle defends Commanders' star Deebo Samuel on social media
Social media is often a cruel and toxic cesspool of people hiding behind fake names and fake pictures to insult others. They say things they'd never dare say to someone's face. And there are engagement accounts that post outlandish stuff so people will respond. That's what happened Wednesday with Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel. And Samuel's good friend and former teammate, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, was having none of it. Advertisement One particular X account, which we refuse to promote, reposted a video that one of the Commanders' reporters posted from Wednesday's minicamp. The post said Samuel's particular route on the video had gone viral and asked X users, "What do you notice?" The account also added three useless emojis. The post was either trying to initiate a conversation about Samuel's weight or his jogging through the route. Kittle was not happy. Good for George Kittle. It's good to see players responding to these ridiculous posts. Of course, you'll have some take the bait, like, you know, Eagles' fans, which is what the initial post was designed to do. Advertisement Kittle and Samuel are close, having spent six seasons as teammates with the 49ers before Washington traded for Samuel this offseason. Samuel has worked hard, attending all offseason work, and looks to be in outstanding shape. All reports on Samuel have been overwhelmingly positive since he arrived in March, and the Commanders expect him to have a big season in 2025. Hall of Famer Terrell Owens calls Commanders WR Deebo Samuel 'fat'
Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens was always known for his outspoken personality. Never afraid to call out anyone, including his own quarterback, Owens often made as many headlines for his comments as he did his outstanding play on the field. Owens is at it again, this time he targeted Washington Commanders wide receiver Terrell Owens. Courtesy of Commanders' fan @JankyRondo on X, here's Owens on video calling Samuel "fat." Owens is smiling and laughing throughout the exchange, so it's difficult to tell if he's being serious or taking playful jabs at Samuel. "I love Deebo," Owens also said in the video. Advertisement However, Samuel is unlikely to appreciate Owens saying he was "about two chicken nuggets from tipping the scales." Washington acquired Samuel in a March trade with the 49ers. The Commanders sent a fifth-round pick to San Francisco and reworked the final year on Samuel's existing contract. Earlier this month, a video of Samuel running a route during Washington's OTAs made the rounds on social media. Because Samuel was running the route at half speed — it was only one play — people made comments about Samuel's speed and his physical shape. Former 49ers teammate George Kittle shut down all of the nonsense. The Commanders are happy with Samuel. Coaches, teammates and GM Adam Peters have praised Samuel since his arrival and his participation in all of Washington's offseason activities. Advertisement As if Samuel didn't have enough to play for in 2025, you can bet Owens' remarks will serve as more motivation for the former Pro Bowl receiver.
