Seth Rogen says his audition for 'Gigli' "would end" his career today

Actor and comedian Seth Rogen recalled the last time he auditioned for a role in 'Gigli' that would have ended his career. Actor and comedian Seth Rogen recalled the last time he auditioned for a role in 'Gigli' that would have ended his career. 'Gigli' is a 2003 American romantic comedy crime film written, co-produced, and directed by Martin Brest, and starring Ben Affleck , Jennifer Lopez , Justin Bartha , Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Lainie Kazan. Seth Rogen opened up about his audition for 2003's Gigli and why he's glad the tape of his work is seemingly gone. Rogen auditioned for the role of a "boy with a cognitive disability" in the Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez film. The part ultimately went to Justin Bartha and the film became a notorious critical and commercial flop, reported People. He appeared on the recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and shared, "It has been a long time," adding, "And man, honestly thank God it was mostly physical VHS tapes and stuff like that that was being used when I was auditioning for things, because the things I auditioned for, in retrospect, if they were out there in the world, it would end my career very, very fast, I believe," reported People. "Well, there's a movie called Gigli ... that stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez and in the film, they're assassins or something like that," he said. The 2003 romantic crime drama was a notorious critical and commercial flop. "In Gigli, they're assassins who are sent to watch over a boy who -- and this was not the words they used at the time - but had a cognitive disability, let's say," Rogen continued. "And so I, as an aspiring young actor ... I auditioned for this boy with a cognitive disability and I don't think the script was written in what, by today's standards, would be the most sensitive portrayal of a boy with a cognitive disability," reported People. Rogen, who at the time had starred in the TV series Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, also said that he "didn't get a lot of auditions," and he knew the movie was being helmed by "great director," Martin Brest, who had done Beverly Hills Cop and and Midnight Run. "I don't think I wore a helmet into the audition itself, but it was at play," Rogen said. "And I'm tempted to do an impression of what I did, but I can't even do it! I can't! That's how bad it was! It's so bad I dare not even portray what I did in this audition, because I went for it. I saw myself at the Oscars." "And truthfully if that tape was out in the world today, this would be the last interview you ever saw me do, other than my apology tour," he said. The role Rogen auditioned for, Brian, was ultimately played by Justin Bartha. The A.V. Club wrote in a 2021 article in which they revisited Gigli, "Pretty much everything about the depiction of Brian's disability falls into the 'oh no' category," reported People.

Anna Wintour stepping down as Vogue editor-in-chief: All on her family, career and net worth

The 75-year-old kicked off her career with the fashion magazine in 1988 and took over the reins from former editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella. Immediately after taking over, she started reshaping the publication, transforming it into a powerhouse and setting new trends and designs in the fashion market. In 1992, she ended yet another century-old tradition at Vogue by featuring a man on the magazine's cover. This time, she showed Richard Gere and his then-wife, Cindy Crawford, per CNN. Wintour made several other editorial decisions that included moving away from controlled studio headshots and introducing casual, outdoor, upper-body shots. Her reputation as an influential figure in the fashion industry was thought to have inspired the famous character of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, a book written by her former assistant, Lauren Weisberger. It was later adapted into an eponymous film featuring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in the lead roles. In 2020, she was named Condé Nast's chief content officer and was overseeing all of its titles worldwide, such as Vanity Fair, Wired, GQ and Architectural Digest, among others. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk reveals details about Squid Game Season 3: ‘It's not always a happy ending'

The world of Squid Game is no stranger to despair — and as the Netflix series approaches its third and final season, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk makes it clear: this one won't offer any emotional reprieve. 'The tone is going to be more dark and bleak,' he says. 'The world, as I observe it, has less hope.' Squid Games Premiering on June 27, Squid Game season 3 is already stirring anticipation and anxiety in equal measure. Fans who've followed the show from its blood-splattered beginnings might be hoping for redemption or even a glimmer of hope, but Hwang says that would go against the story's DNA. 'People like a happy ending. I'm like that too. But some stories, by nature, can't have one. If you try to force one, the essence is compromised. If a story is holding up a mirror to something, then it's not always a happy ending. Squid Game is no exception.' With new characters, new games, and moral ambiguity dialled all the way up, the final season promises to be as gut-wrenching and thought-provoking as ever. 'I wanted to explore questions like, 'What is the very last resort of humankind? And do we have the will to give future generations something better?'' says Hwang. 'After watching all three seasons, I hope we can each ask ourselves, 'How much humanity do I have left in me?'' Though some fans were critical of season two's pace and choices, the production timeline didn't allow creator Lee Jung-jae to adjust things mid-way. 'The two seasons were filmed back to back,' he explains. 'Instead of 'fixing' the narrative, we just wanted to make sure the message was conveyed.' That message, of violence, desperation, and what capitalism can reduce people to, remains the series' spine, even as it grows more complex. 'The finale was something even I didn't expect,' Lee teases. 'So I'm sure a lot of fans will not see it coming. I think a lot of people will have different reactions. It's definitely going to spur a lot of conversation.' Until then, fans hoping for spoilers will have to wait. 'People have been so curious. A lot of them come to me asking for spoilers,' Lee adds. 'I keep telling them that if you want to have fun watching season three, you just have to hold still. It's coming.'
