SINGAPORE - Calling all J-Hope fans attending the South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter's concerts at Singapore Indoor Stadium - consider making a detour to Filipino restaurant Hayop Ni Manam in Amoy Street in the coming week.
From April 26 to May 2, the restaurant is offering a one-for-one deal on its striking purple ube and sago shake ($15).
To redeem the shake, present your ticket for J-Hope's Hope On The Stage concert, happening on April 26 and 27. J-Hope is a member of South Korean boyband sensation BTS. The Manam promotion - valid for dine-in or take-out - is limited to 20 redemptions a day.
Hayop's promotion here follows a similar one that ran at its sister restaurant chain Manam in the Philippines, in line with his concerts there on April 12 and 13.
J-Hope's livestream on fan platform Weverse on April 13, where he ate a takeaway meal from Manam, sparked a buzz on social media as diners flocked to dine at the restaurant chain.
His meal included crispy pata (deep-fried whole pork knuckle); crispy pork sisig; sinigang na baboy sa sampaloc, which is pork and vegetable soup made sour with fresh sampaloc (tamarind); garlic rice; and ube shake.
He also had namnam halo-halo - Manam's take on the Filipino favourite, a dessert layered with shaved ice, nata de coco, red beans, palm seeds and topped with ube ice cream and leche flan - which he called his 'favourite dessert'.
Following this, Manam gave out free ube and sago shakes to its 'army paboritos' with any order at its 34 outlets in the Philippines. Army is a nod to the fanbase of South Korean boyband BTS. Paboritos means 'favourite' in Filipino.
Some of the dishes that J-Hope savoured - sisig ($22), garlic rice ($7) and halo-halo ($18) - are also available at Hayop, which made its debut here in July 2024.
Ms Abba Napa, co-founder of The Moment Group which runs Manam and Hayop, says: 'We've been overwhelmed by the love we've been getting.
'Our guests have been sharing their meals and ube shakes all over Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter. Seeing all the posts and stories has truly warmed our hearts.'

Ruby Lin strikes touristy Merlion pose in Singapore at Vivian Hsu's 'recommendation', Entertainment News
When in Singapore, do as the tourists do. That seems to be the cue taken by Ruby Lin when the actress was in town recently. The 49-year-old may be a star in Taiwan and beyond, but a recent Instagram post showed how in Singapore, she can be just like any other merry holidaymaker. But unlike other regular tourists, however, Ruby had the privilege of having fellow celeb Vivian Hsu, 50, as her "tour guide". Vivian, who split from her Singaporean husband Sean Lee in 2023, reportedly lives in Singapore with her only son, but travels to Taiwan frequently for work. In a post published on Saturday (June 7), Ruby wrote about taking the series of "tourist photos" at the encouragement of her "dear sister", Vivian. "Under the strong recommendation of my tour guide, companion cum photographer and dear sister, I've taken this photo which she said I'll thank her for in 10 years' time," wrote Ruby, referring to a picture of herself striking the iconic 'Merlion pose'. "I've therefore taken this series of touristy photos," she joked, alongside a laughing emoji. She also wrote in a series of hashtags, "As long as you're not embarrassed, others will be the ones who are embarrassed" as well as another hashtag stating that the 'photographer' was very responsible and took such photos for the entire group. [embed] For those unacquainted with said pose, it involves people tilting their heads backward, mouths agape, to "catch" the stream of water from the Merlion's mouth. Other photos taken by a third person showed Vivian snapping a photo of Ruby in said pose, though it's not clear if Ruby's actor husband Wallace Huo had joined her on the trip. In an Instagram Story on June 7, Vivian too, reposted the photo, stating: "It's a photo worth remembering", calling herself "the best photographer". On another day, Ruby and Vivian, both wearing masks, stopped for a photo-op outside the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands. However, Ruby's little sojourn to our sunny island might not have been all that recent. Her post a week ago showed both her and Vivian posing against the backdrop of a visual installation, which the latter indicated in a comment to be the teamLab Future World exhibit at the ArtScience Museum. [embed] In the caption, Ruby expressed her well-wishes to followers for the Dragon Boat Festival. [[nid:708783]] candicecai@

YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo is engaged to pianist James Wong
James Wong had proposed to Hazelle Teo on the final night of her work trip in Qingdao. PHOTOS: HEYHIHAZELLE/INSTAGRAM SINGAPORE - Wedding bells will soon be ringing for local DJ Hazelle Teo and pianist James Wong. On June 6, Mediacorp's Chinese-language radio station YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo wrote a collaborative post with her now-fiance James Wong, saying: 'This feels so right. We feel so right. The rest of our lives feels so right.' The pair first met in 2024 when Teo, 31, reached out to Wong, 24, who is also a content creator, for a collaboration . This featured Wong on the keys, while Teo sang a mash-up of Taylor Swift's hits Love Story (2008) and Enchanted (2010). The proposal took place in the Chinese port city of Qingdao, where Wong surprised Teo in her hotel room on the final night of her week-long work trip. In her caption, Teo wrote that she arrived at the hotel at 1.00am, ready to rest before heading to the airport at 6.00am. 'But when I opened the door, I was greeted by soft orange lighting, lots of flowers, someone holding a camera, plenty of confusion... and then I saw my then-boyfriend (now fiance, lol) standing there nervously.' In the series of photographs uploaded on Instagram, a petal-adorned candle-lit walkway was seen leading up to a bouquet of flowers in the centre of the room. The set-up was complete with a heart-shaped cake with the words 'Marry Me'. According to Teo, Wong had helped her apply for additional leave after the work trip, and had also prepared spare change for the rest of their time in Qingdao . 'He planned it all - quietly, sweetly, thoughtfully - and it turned out to be even more beautiful than I ever imagined.' Wong subsequently left a comment on his lover's post, quipping: 'As a wedding pianist, I've always been part of other people's special day. Today, my turn is here. Thank you everybody.' Fellow YES 933 DJ Kunhua left his well-wishes for the couple in the comments, also musing that he can finally tell everyone why he returned from China alone. Other industry friends, including 987FM DJ Sonia Chew and YES933 DJ Zhu Zeliang, have also posted congratulatory messages for the couple. Apart from being a DJ, Teo hosts events. She has also dabbled in acting, playing supporting roles in dramas such as Die Die Also Must Serve (2018) and Babies On Board (2018).
