DMK MP Tiruchy Siva flags delay in RTE fund release to Tamil Nadu in Parliament
Siva asked the reason behind the delay in releasing the funds and referred to the recent Madras High Court direction to the Union Education Ministry to consider splitting the funds allocated to Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme by separating the reimbursement of funds to schools under RTE.
He requested a clear policy on how RTE reimbursements would be handled for states that refuse to implement the National Education Policy.
MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi raised a question regarding the improvement of train connectivity between Thoothukudi and Mumbai.
She also asked whether the Union government has considered extending the service of the Lokmanya Tilak-Madurai Express (Train numbers 11043/11044) to Thoothukudi or introducing a new train service. Additionally, she inquired if any timeframe has been fixed for this upgrade in connectivity.
DMK treasurer and MP TR Baalu asked the union government about the introduction of new or additional train services to Rameswaram following the opening of the vertical lift sea bridge. Citing technical issues with the new lift bridge, he also asked when the problems would be resolved and the bridge would become functional, enabling ship movement.

The concentration of power in the hands of the Chairman and the manner of its exercise are reflected in the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. The suspension of opposition members, instances of switching off their microphones, and the open bias reflected in the allocation of subject matters to be raised and discussed in the House are all matters of record. The frequent public articulations of the Vice President questioning the theory of the Constitution's 'basic structure' and that the laws made by Parliament must get primacy within the constitutional framework, and reprimanding members of the House raising objections to and questioning the constitutionality of legislation initiated, are also reflected in the proceedings of the House. The Chairman's conduct, both within and outside the House, often aligned with the BJP's agenda and ideology. He frequently commented upon the necessity of enacting and implementing a legislative framework in which the power to appoint judges to the higher judiciary was vested in the government. Despite all this, the Vice President resigned on July 21, 2025, citing alleged health reasons that prevented him from continuing in office. Prof Manuka Khanna appointed officiating V-C of Lucknow Univ
Lucknow: Governor Anandiben Patel on Sunday appointed Prof Manuka Khanna of the political science department as the officiating vice-chancellor of . This appointment follows the departure of Prof Alok Kumar Rai from the post, as he is set to join as director of the Indian Institute of Management–Calcutta (IIM–Calcutta). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Prof Manuka, who also served as the pro vice-chancellor of the university, is the second woman to be appointed as officiating vice-chancellor after Prof Roop Rekha Verma in 1998–99. Currently, the posts of registrar and finance officer at LU are also held by women, Bhawna Mishra and Himani Chaudhary, respectively. Prof Rai submitted a letter to the governor on Saturday, requesting to be relieved from the vice-chancellor's post by Sunday afternoon. Prof Manuka has been appointed for a period not exceeding six months or until further orders, whichever is earlier. According to the governor's letter, no additional salary, allowance, or other benefits will be payable to her. The governor's house has already advertised the post for the appointment of a new LU vice-chancellor, with the last date for applications being Aug 11. Thereafter, the search committee will call all applicants and shortlist five names, which will be sent to the governor. One of these five candidates will be selected for the post. After being relieved from the V-C position, Prof Rai shared a message on LU's official YouTube channel. He expressed his gratitude to the governor and the chancellor for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the university in 2019, the centenary year of LU, calling it a significant honour. "With the responsibility given by the chancellor, the university was able to move forward not only in celebrating its 100th year but in all areas of development, be it academic, infrastructure, finances, human resources, operations, or others.
