A group of US senators has issued a stern warning to
Nvidia
CEO
Jensen Huang
regarding his upcoming trip to China, a report has said. In a letter sent on Friday, Republican Senator Jim Banks and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren urged Huang to refrain from meeting with Chinese companies suspected of undermining US
chip export controls
or those with ties to Beijing's military and intelligence bodies. They also specifically cautioned against engaging with entities on the US restricted export list, according to a report by news agency Reuters.
'We are worried that your trip to the PRC could legitimise companies that cooperate closely with the Chinese military or involve discussing exploitable gaps in US export controls," the senators reportedly wrote, highlighting concerns about potential circumvention of critical US technology safeguards.
The senators underscored a consensus on the controlled export of advanced AI hardware, stressing that such technology could 'accelerate the PRC's effort to modernise its military.'
Nvidia says win for US guaranteed when its technology sets 'global standard'
An Nvidia spokesperson responded to the concerns by stating that "American wins" when its technology sets "the global standard." The spokesperson emphasised China's vast pool of software developers, asserting that AI software "should run best on the US technology stack, encouraging nations worldwide to choose America.'

This development comes after Huang publicly praised US President Donald Trump's decision to ease some AI chip export controls in May at the Computex trade show in Taipei, calling prior restrictions a 'failure.' Huang previously estimated that US restrictions on Nvidia's modified AI chips for China, imposed in April, would reduce the company's revenue by $15 billion.
Last month, Reuters reported that a senior US official alleged AI firm DeepSeek was assisting China's military and intelligence operations and had attempted to use shell companies to circumvent US AI chip export controls.

Avoid restrictive trade measures to normalise ties, Jaishankar tells Wang

In his first visit to China in almost six years, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday told his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that the two neighbours resolving 'friction' on the India–China border has led to easing of tensions, and they should now build on this to address other aspects related to the boundary, including border management and de-escalation. Jaishankar said the two countries should also normalise people-to-people contacts and avoid 'restrictive trade measures and roadblocks'. He underlined the need for cooperation on trans-border rivers and urged the Chinese side to resume providing hydrological data. In his opening remarks at the meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang in Beijing, Jaishankar said relations between the two countries can continue to develop in a 'positive trajectory' based on the understanding that differences should not become disputes and competition should not become conflict. Alluding to China's restrictions on the supply of critical minerals, and flagging the need to foster mutually beneficial cooperation, including through people-to-people exchanges, Jaishankar said, 'It is also essential in this context that restrictive trade measures and roadblocks are avoided.' He said he hoped to discuss these issues in further detail with Wang. Jaishankar landed in Beijing on Sunday, after a day-long visit to Singapore, to attend the Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers' Council in Tianjin, which is 135 km from Beijing. China currently holds the SCO presidency and will host the SCO Summit in Tianjin later this year, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend. Jaishankar last visited China from 11–13 August 2019, his first trip to the country after assuming office as External Affairs Minister in June that year. As Jaishankar noted in his remarks, India–China relations have been gradually moving in a 'positive direction' after Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Kazan in October 2024. 'Our responsibility is to maintain that momentum,' he said, adding that the India–China bilateral relationship requires that 'we take a far-seeing approach to our ties'. Jaishankar noted that he and Wang have met on several occasions in recent months at international events and carried out strategic communication. 'It is our expectation that this will now be regular and take place in each other's countries,' he said. Foreign ministers' level talks between India and China were discontinued after the Galwan clashes of June–July 2020. He also noted that India and China are marking the 75th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and appreciated Chinese cooperation in resuming the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a gap of five years. He said the resolution of friction along the India–China border and the ability of the two countries to maintain peace and tranquillity there were the 'fundamental basis' of the 'good progress' made in the past nine months towards normalising bilateral relations. Jaishankar called for 'stable and constructive ties' between the two neighbours, best achieved by handling relations on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity. 'We have also earlier agreed that differences should not become disputes, nor should competition ever become conflict. On this foundation, we can now continue to develop our ties along a positive trajectory,' he said. Jaishankar and Wang will also exchange views on global and regional issues. As for the SCO meeting scheduled for Monday, Jaishankar said India 'hopes' that the grouping will 'strongly' uphold its mandate of zero tolerance for terrorism. At the SCO's meeting of defence ministers in Qingdao, China, in June, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had refused to sign a joint communiqué as it omitted the Pahalgam terror attack and did not explicitly address India's concerns over Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism. In Beijing, the EAM also called on Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng, where he noted the 'steadily improving' bilateral ties since the Modi–Xi meeting in Kazan last October. He said it is 'very important' for India and China, as neighbouring countries and major economies, to have an open exchange of views and perspectives in the context of the complex international situation. In Singapore on Saturday, Jaishankar met President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other ministers, including Teo Chee Hean, the Coordinating Minister for National Security and Chairman-designate of Temasek Holdings. Their discussion focused on the transformation underway in India and opportunities for Temasek to expand its investments in the country, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Tesla's Mumbai showroom opening almost here: Why did its India debut take years?

Elon Musk-founded Tesla is all set to open the doors of its first-ever showroom in India. The EV maker is scheduled to inaugurate its showroom in Mumbai on Tuesday, July 15. The store is located at Bandra Kurla Complex, the city's leading commercial business district, according to an invite sent to media houses. Tesla also operates a service and warehouse centre that is located around six kilometres away from the showroom. Over the past few months, the company has been importing vehicles, chargers, and other accessories worth over $1 million into India from China and the US, according to a report by Reuters. Based on documents, the report said that the import shipments included six of Tesla's best-selling Model Y. Hence, these cars can be expected to be on display at the showroom. Over three dozen people have reportedly been hired to work at the Tesla experience centre in Mumbai, including board store managers as well as sales and service executives. It has also advertised for vacancies for supply chain engineers and vehicle operators responsible for collecting data for its autopilot feature. Tuesday's inauguration officially marks Tesla's entry into the world's third-largest car market. It comes at a time when the EV maker is grappling with declining sales in key markets like China. It is also facing issues with excess manufacturing capacity. Since Tesla will be selling imported cars in India, it will reportedly need to pay about 70% import duty and other levies. CEO Elon Musk has previously complained about India's high import tariffs. Additionally, the showroom has received clearance from the authorities. 'A trade certificate has been granted to Tesla India following due inspection of the facilities mentioned in their application,' a senior Regional Transport Office (RTO) official was quoted as saying by PTI. 'This includes the showroom, vehicle parking area and warehousing facility,' they added. Meanwhile, a newly created Tesla India handle on X posted: 'Coming soon'. Coming soon — Tesla India (@Tesla_India) July 11, 2025 In 2016, Musk had announced that pre-bookings for its Model 3 would be available for customers from many countries outside North America, including India. Soon, many customers in India put up a refundable deposit of $1000 (approx. Rs 85,000 at current exchange rate). Earlier this year, the company initiated refunds to those who had paid the reservation fee as the Model 3 has now been discontinued. 'We would like to return your reservation fee for the time being. When we finalize our offerings in India, we will reach out in the market again. We hope to see you back with us once we are ready to launch and deliver in your country,' Tesla said in emails to the early bookers, according to a report by Bloomberg. Tesla has long expressed interest in India. However, its plans to start commercial operations in the country were delayed due to government policies and import duty concerns. Once the world's top EV seller, Tesla is facing increased competition from Chinese EV makers, particularly BYD, as global EV sales growth has tapered. BYD is said to have an edge in terms of auto technology as well as pricing. It reported sales of over 318,000 passenger vehicles in February, up over 150 per cent from a year earlier, and the Chinese company's Hong Kong-listed shares are already up nearly 50 per cent this year. Meanwhile, Tesla shares have been tanking, falling close to 15 per cent and erasing around $150 billion in market value. The feud between Musk and US President Donald Trump has reportedly had a significant bearing on the company's stock market performance. Without the most influential American's political backing behind its founder gone, Tesla could also run into headwinds in the US. The central government has been wooing Tesla to manufacture locally for several years now. In a bid to attract the carmaker, the PM Modi-led government introduced a new policy that offered companies a reduced duty of 15 per cent if they set up manufacturing locally and committed to investing $500 million in India. In June this year, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that global EV makers like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen-Škoda, Hyundai and Kia have shown interest in applying under the ministry's flagship Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India. However, Tesla is not keen on manufacturing in India, the minister said. This comes amid some political pressure, with President Trump stating that it would be unfair to the US if Tesla were to circumvent tariffs imposed by India by building a factory in this country. Kumaraswamy had said that Tesla is planning to open two retail stores in India, including the Mumbai one. It is unclear where the company is looking to launch the second showroom in the country. According to LinkedIn posts, Tesla has invited job applications for store managers in Delhi.

fischer Offers Professional Sprinkler Installation for Sprinkler Systems

NewsVoir Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 14: fischer offers sprinkler loop hangers, pipe clamps, beam clamps and fastening elements approved by Germany's Property Insurer Associations FM and VdS, certifying their suitability for safe application in sprinkler systems. Plugs and anchors suitable for sprinkler systems feature CE marking based on the relevant ETA. Sprinkler systems are an important component of fire protection systems, the requirements of which go beyond building regulations in some cases. They are highly effective in extinguishing and making people aware of fire hazards. As a result, they are fitted as standard in many buildings. Mr. Mayank Kalra, Managing Director of fischer India, emphasizes the company's unwavering commitment to delivering robust, certified solutions that meet global standards like FM and VdS. "Sprinkler systems are a critical aspect of modern fire protection solutions, ensuring safety and compliance beyond standard building regulations. fischer continues to set industry benchmarks by prioritizing safety, quality, and compliance. Through reliable and globally certified solutions, the company remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and infrastructure across diverse built environments." Sprinkler systems are an important component of fire protection systems, the requirements of which go beyond building regulations in some cases. They are highly effective in extinguishing and making people aware of fire hazards. As a result, they are fitted as standard in many buildings. Applicable guidelines include the European VdS standard (VdS CEA 4001) and the almost identical EN 12845 (European standard), the American FM standard 1951 (Factory Mutual Insurance Company, FM Global) in addition to the UL standard (Underwriters Laboratories, UL) based on the NFPA 13 (National Fire Protection Association, NFPA). The American standards can complement one another as well as the European standards and guidelines in terms of the requirements when fastening conduits, although there are some differences to be considered when looking at the details. Depending on the guideline, different load specifications apply to pipe supports for sprinkler conduits as a test load or minimum load-bearing capacity or in terms of fastening distances and connection thread sizes when using steel pipes. These regulations cover pipe clamps and loops in addition to all other fastening elements, such as plugs, anchors, beam clamps and trapezoidal sheet hangers. Pipe clamps and loops must be approved and listed under the FM and UL standards. VdS and EN 12845 specify aspects such as minimum material thickness and width requirements that must be met in addition to the specified loads. The fixing specialist fischer offers sprinkler loop hangers (FRLH/FRSP/FCHS), riser clamps (RCWR), U-bolts (ETR), threaded rods/threaded pins (G/GS), beam clamps (TKLS/TKL) and profile hangers (TZ/TZH) that meet these requirements. The KDS toggle plug allows conduits and other components to be easily mounted on the trapezoidal metal sheet in stationary sprinkler systems in a compliant and convenient manner. The height-adjustable threaded rod, which is secured to prevent it from accidentally loosening, allows the components to be practically aligned on trapezoidal metal sheets. Various lengths of the KDS toggle plug cover different applications. Other new additions to fischer's range include the corrosion-resistant TKLG swivel beam clamp, which was designed to safely and easily fasten sprinkler pipes to inclined steel supports thanks to its technical ingenuities. FRLH is a premium sprinkler loop hanger which allows approved sprinkler systems to be installed in buildings with height adjustment and is highly corrosion resistant. FRSMN, a two-screw galvanised heavy-duty pipe clamp without a sound insulation insert, is approved for sprinkler systems and comes equipped with a double connection nut and from DN 300 with an M16 connection nut. The connection nuts are pushed through or welded all round and provide pipe fastenings with a higher bending strength. The version with two screws enables optimised adaptation to the outer diameter of the pipe, which means that pipes with an outer diameter of 15 - 521 mm can be securely fastened with threaded pipes indoors. Another new addition to the range is the ETR-L, fischer's U-bolt with a longer metric thread that offers even more flexibility on top of the ETR when fastening various pipe systems in buildings. The version with two screws enables optimised adaptation to the outer diameter of the pipe. The U-bolt is fastened to steel profiles or consoles. The fischer FETR-C channel connector allows the fischer ETR/ETR-L to be connected to the FUS channel system with ease. It can be freely positioned on all FUS channels, regardless of their hole pattern. fischer's range of products suitable for sprinkler systems includes plugs and anchors deemed suitable for sprinklers as per the VdS and FM standards and features a CE marking based on the relevant ETA. fischer's fixing solutions for sprinklers cover a vast range of applications. Pipe supports can be carried out in concrete (single and multiple fastenings), aerated concrete, trapezoidal metal sheets and in steel construction with suitable all-in-one systems.
