Saudi Arabia: King Salman Global Academy For Arabic Language Launches Program With Indiana University
The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language has launched a specialized program in partnership with Indiana University in the United States.
This initiative is part of the second phase of the academy's project aimed at training Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers.
Running until April 8, the program seeks to enhance teachers' abilities and help improve the overall learning experience by using advanced educational techniques.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, Secretary General of the academy, said the program builds on previous efforts to support both Arabic language teachers and their students.
'This program is part of our ongoing work to improve the quality of teaching and learning Arabic worldwide,' he explained.
'We are also working to make sure teachers are well-equipped to apply standardized language tests, like the Hamza Academic Test, effectively in their classrooms.'
The collaboration with Indiana University highlights the academy's commitment to sharing academic expertise and learning from international best practices in Arabic language education.
The goal of the program is not only to improve teaching standards but also to enhance language assessment practices.
The program offers several key components, including a course on language testing and the Hamza Academic Test, as well as specialized training for Arabic language teachers that focuses on modern teaching strategies and improving professional skills.
Additionally, a scientific seminar titled Saudi Arabia's Efforts in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers will be held, along with a hands-on session to help participants better understand language assessments and how they measure learners' skills.

Abu Dhabi Introduces Arabic Rule for KG Students
Abu Dhabi has introduced new rules for mandatory Arabic lessons for pupils starting in the next academic year. The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) announced a new policy that will bring Arabic into every private and charter kindergarten across the emirate, starting from Pre-KG to KG2, beginning after summer in 2025. The move aims to nurture language, identity, and belonging from the very first years of learning. Under the new ADEK School KG Arabic Curriculum Policy, all young learners will receive 240 minutes per week of structured, age-appropriate Arabic instruction. This will increase to 300 minutes per week beginning in the 2026/27 academic year. The new policy ensures that every child, whether a native speaker or learning Arabic for the first time, receives consistent, high-quality instruction during the most critical phase of language development and has the opportunity to grow up confident in the language that connects them to their culture, community, and future. This initiative is timely as research confirms that young children learn languages most effectively and Arabic represents more than a subject, it is a connection to identity, values and heritage. ADEK's recent survey showed that while Arabic is widely spoken at home, many children still struggle to use it confidently. This policy bridges that gap with schools and families working together to keep Arabic alive and thriving. Learning will be engaging, built around play, storytelling, songs, and exploration. The policy outlines two tracks: One designed to deepen mother tongue skills for native Arabic speakers Another tailored for non-native speakers and newcomers This will ensure that each child is supported at their level, whether native speaker or beginner. And with specially trained teachers, modern materials, and exciting classroom activities, Arabic will become a language students look forward to using every day. Mariam Al Hallami, Executive Director Early Education, said: 'This is about more than just adding Arabic lessons. It's about giving every child in Abu Dhabi the gift of language, identity, and connection starting from day one. We want Arabic to feel natural, interactive and alive in every classroom and every home.' This new policy bridges the gap between Arabic learning in nurseries, implemented through ADEK's Early Education Institutions (EEI) policies, and the start of mandatory Arabic instruction in Cycle 1 in line with Ministry of Education requirements, supporting steady language development during the early years. Parents are also a big part of the journey. Schools will share tools and updates, so families can join in the fun, whether practicing new words at home, reading stories together, or taking part in Arabic-themed school events. Sheikh Hamdan Launches Hewi Dubai
A new community initiative looks to transform public spaces in Dubai, one neighbourhood at a time. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), announced the Hewi Dubai initiative, marking a bold new vision for public spaces in Dubai. The initiative seeks to revive the vibrant spirit of the traditional Emirati fareej (neighbourhood) in a modern, human-centric way by creating new community spaces that strengthen social bonds and promote an active lifestyle. Sheikh Hamdan said: 'Community bonds are among the core values Emirati families are raised on. We must pass on these values to future generations and design public spaces that bring neighbours together, where families can gather, elders can meet, and children can create endearing memories in a safe and welcoming environment. Sheikh Hamdan added: 'These new spaces will be anything but conventional. They are intended as vibrant extensions of our cultural identity and future aspirations, reflecting our values and redefining what public spaces mean to our city.' As part of the initiative, Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4, which will be developed by DFF in partnership with Dubai Municipality, represents a new model for public space creation, one that is co-designed with residents, informed by comprehensive data, and grounded in culture. Located between a mosque and a residential neighbourhood in Nad Al Sheba 4, the site was selected for its walking-friendly vibe and natural sense of community. The park embodies a shift away from one-size-fits-all spaces toward a new generation of neighbourhood parks that prioritise comfort, belonging, and the rhythms of everyday life. Each element of the park has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect the needs and values of its surrounding community. A shaded gathering area near the mosque, known as Al Decha, is designed to bring generations together and offers a calm retreat where elders can share stories over Arabic coffee or tea. Al Saaha, a flexible indoor-outdoor space, has been designed to accommodate community events, workshops, and celebrations. The space invites neighbours to take ownership and host moments that reflect their lives and values. For families, Al Yalsa provides a comfortable seating area overlooking the children's play zone, which is ideal for relaxation, watching over the kids, or informal meetings. Meandering paths and nature-based play areas encourage exploration, movement, and intergenerational bonding, transforming the park into a space that feels both natural and deeply familiar.
