Another word record! Armand Duplantis soars to new heights; achieves career-defining milestone at Stockholm DL

Armand Duplantis (Photo by) Armand "Mondo" Duplantis set a new world record in pole vault by clearing 6.28 meters at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting on Sunday, surpassing his previous record of 6.27 meters from February. The Swedish pole vaulter had earlier won at the Oslo Diamond League meet, achieving a meet record of 6.15 meters at the Bislett Stadium in favourable conditions. Duplantis achieved his 12th world record by clearing 6.28 meters at a Diamond League competition. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Duplantis, who has Swedish heritage through his mother but was raised in Louisiana, successfully cleared 20 feet, 7 inches on his first attempt. This new achievement surpasses his previous record of 6.27 meters, which he set at an indoor meet in France on February 28. Since his first record in February 2020, Duplantis has consistently increased each world record by one centimetre. The record-breaking feat in Sweden adds to his impressive list of locations where he has set records, including Poland, Scotland, Serbia, the United States, France, and China. The two-time Olympic champion has adopted a strategy similar to Ukrainian athlete Sergey Bubka, who would increase the bar height by small increments to maximise bonus payments during the 1980s and 1990s. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like After 35 Years, Her Jewelry Is Nearly Gone The Heritage Journal Read More Undo Bubka's remarkable career included breaking the outdoor world record 17 times and the indoor record 18 times between 1984 and 1994. World Athletics later combined indoor and outdoor records into a single category. Before Mondo's dominance, the previous world record stood at 6.16 meters, set by French athlete Renaud Lavillenie in 2014. Since early 2020, Duplantis, now 25, has maintained an exceptional performance record with over 70 victories and only four losses.

Zack Wheeler, ace MLB player reveals retirement date: Will he join the Hall of Fame?

In a candid revelation, Philadelphia Phillies' ace Zack Wheeler has confirmed his plans to retire from Major League Baseball following the conclusion of the 2027 season. The 34-year-old right-hander, who is currently playing some of the best baseball of his career, made the announcement during an interaction with The Athletic , saying, 'That's the plan… it'll be easy to walk away', as quoted in a report by CBS. This announcement, while still two and a half seasons away from implementation, has triggered immediate discussion among baseball observers and fans alike: Is Zack Wheeler Hall of Fame-bound? An Elite Performer Still in His Prime Despite being in his mid-thirties, Wheeler is yet to show any signs of decline. Last season, he finished as runner-up in the Cy Young Award voting—his second such finish after a stellar 2021 campaign. In 2023, he secured a top-six finish, underscoring his sustained excellence in recent years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like After Years of Stiff Joints, He Climbed Everest Again—See How showbizinsider Undo Wheeler currently boasts a career record of 109-72, a 3.31 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 1,726 strikeouts across 1,660⅔ innings pitched. His postseason numbers are even more impressive, with a 2.18 ERA and 77 strikeouts in just over 70 innings, making him one of the more dominant playoff pitchers of the era. Stranger to Awards, But Not to Consistency Though he has yet to clinch a Cy Young Award or reach the coveted 2,000-strikeout milestone, Wheeler's consistent performance has kept him in elite company. Statistically, his profile draws comparisons to names like Aaron Nola, Corey Kluber, and Stephen Strasburg—all notable talents, albeit none guaranteed Hall of Famers. Live Events JAWS rankings place Wheeler at 184th among starting pitchers—just ahead of Catfish Hunter but largely among a group of respected yet borderline Hall contenders such as Jake Peavy, David Price, and Al Leiter. Path to Cooperstown: Still Open but Narrow To strengthen his Hall of Fame case, Wheeler will need to finish strong through 2027. Based on his average of 190 innings pitched annually post-2020, he appears well-positioned to surpass both the 2,000-innings and 2,000-strikeout thresholds. His cumulative WAR (Wins Above Replacement) currently stands at 38.0, and with 6.1 posted last season and 2.8 already this year, surpassing Félix Hernández's 49.9 WAR mark is within reach. Hernández, a one-time Cy Young winner with 169 wins and over 2,500 strikeouts, debuted on the Hall of Fame ballot last year and secured more than 20 percent of the vote. Wheeler's superior rate stats—3.31 ERA vs. Hernández's 3.42, 121 ERA+ to 117, and a better WHIP—could eventually tip the balance in his favor if complemented by key achievements. Final Push: Accolades Will Matter While Wheeler has built a strong foundation, voters may still look for peak accolades. A Cy Young Award or World Series MVP, particularly during these final years, could be pivotal. With the Phillies contending and Wheeler leading the rotation, such honors are not out of reach. As things stand, Zack Wheeler's retirement timeline adds urgency to his quest for baseball immortality. The Hall of Fame may remain uncertain, but with continued dominance and perhaps a trophy or two, the Phillies ace could carve his name into Cooperstown lore. FAQs When is Zack Wheeler planning to retire from Major League Baseball? Zack Wheeler has announced that he intends to retire after the 2027 MLB season. The 34-year-old pitcher confirmed the news in an interview with The Athletic , saying, 'That's the plan… it'll be easy to walk away.' Why is Wheeler's retirement announcement significant?
