Hollowell, 27, was added as the 27th member of the roster for Monday's doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers that was reduced to one game because of inclement weather. He allowed four runs over two innings in a 7-0 loss to the Brewers in the one game that was played.

J.T. Realmuto, homer-happy Phillies top Mariners

August 20 - J.T. Realmuto slugged a two-run home run to break an eighth-inning tie as the host Philadelphia Phillies nipped the Seattle Mariners 6-4 on Tuesday. Realmuto finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott also homered for Philadelphia. Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and six hits, although he did not factor into the decision. Eugenio Suarez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Seattle, which lost for the sixth time in seven games. Bryce Miller, who missed the last two-plus months with an elbow injury, allowed four runs and four hits in five innings in his return to the mound for the Mariners. Realmuto's decisive blast came against Matt Brash (1-2), who had allowed only one home run in his first 37 appearances. Bryce Harper opened the inning with an opposite-field single against Brash before Realmuto drilled the first pitch he saw over the wall in left-center. After recording 21 hits in Monday's series-opening 12-7 victory, the Phillies got off to a quick start in this one. After Sanchez struck out two in a 1-2-3 first, Schwarber launched his 44th homer of the season in the bottom half to make it 1-0. Sanchez struck out three more in the second inning, but J.P. Crawford and Randy Arozarena doubled against him in the third as the visitors drew even at 1-1. Philadelphia answered back in the bottom half on Harper's sacrifice fly and Realmuto's RBI hit to center. Stott made it 4-1 in the fourth with a blast over the wall in right field. The Mariners threatened against Sanchez in the fifth and sixth innings, but the left-hander prevented any damage on the scoreboard. He then walked Dylan Moore with one out in the seventh, prompting Phillies manager Rob Thomson to summon Orion Kerkering out of the bullpen. The righty promptly walked two batters to load the bases. Julio Rodriguez brought in a run on a groundout before Suarez laced a two-run, game-tying double down the third base line. David Robertson (1-0) logged a perfect eighth inning before Jhoan Duran set down Seattle 1-2-3 in the ninth. --Field Level Media

David Peterson fans 10 as Mets blow out Nationals

August 20 - David Peterson struck out a season-high 10 batters over eight innings and Mark Vientos belted a two-run homer to highlight a five-run third, fueling the New York Mets to an 8-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. Peterson (8-5) permitted one run on four hits and one walk while improving to 7-1 vs. the Nationals in his career. On June 11, he tossed his first career complete game in a 5-0 victory over Washington. New York's Jeff McNeil hit a two-run double in the third inning and belted a solo homer in the ninth to cap a three-hit performance. Brett Baty went deep to lead off the sixth inning and Juan Soto did the same in the seventh to help the Mets win their third straight game following a 2-14 slide. The game was the first in major league history to feature two Venezuelan-born managers squaring off: New York's Carlos Mendoza and Washington interim skipper Miguel Cairo. New York's Francisco Lindor, the reigning National League Player of the Week, doubled with one out in the third inning before Soto walked. Lindor came around to score the game's first run on Brandon Nimmo's single to left-center field. McNeil plated a pair of runs with a two-out double to right field before Vientos gave New York a 5-0 lead by depositing a 0-2 curveball from Jake Irvin (8-8) over the wall in left-center field. The homer was Vientos' ninth of the season and second in as many games. Baty sent a first-pitch fastball from Irvin over the wall in right-center field in the sixth, and Soto rudely greeted reliever Konnor Pilkington by clearing the wall in left. Washington's Dylan Crews tripled to lead off the eighth inning. Andres Chaparro walked, and Crews scored when Peterson induced Brady House to ground into 5-4-3 double play. Peterson struck out Jacob Young to end the inning and his outing. Irvin fell to 0-3 in four starts this month after permitting six runs on eight hits in six innings. He fanned three and walked three. --Field Level Media

Cards stack up 11 singles to sink Marlins

August 20 - Ivan Herrera drove in three runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-4 win over the host Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. The Cardinals, who go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday, amassed 22 hits and 15 runs in the first two games of the series. Michael McGreevy (5-2) earned Tuesday's win, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) with five strikeouts in six innings. Riley O'Brien earned his second save by pitching a scoreless ninth. After missing with his first eight pitches to bring the tying run to the plate, he struck out the next two and got a groundout to end the game. Edward Cabrera (6-7) took the loss, lasting just 4 1/3 innings while allowing season-highs in hits (11) and runs (six). He fanned six and walked one. Cabrera got in trouble on the game's fourth pitch as Lars Nootbaar singled, then advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Herrera's broken-bat bloop single. Herrera got behind 0-2 in the at-bat, but he fouled off three pitches and worked a full count before delivering. Herrera came through again in the second against a 98-mph fastball -- lining a two-run, opposite-field single to right for a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals made it 4-0 in the third on Pedro Pages' RBI single. That was St. Louis' eighth single in the first three innings. Miami got on the board in the fourth as Xavier Edwards singled and rookie Jakob Marsee smacked an opposite-field triple to left. The next batter, Agustin Ramirez, hit a comebacker to McGreevey, who threw to third in an attempt to get Marsee. But the throw was wild, allowing Marsee to score. The Cardinals got those two runs back in their next chance. Two more singles started the rally, and Masyn Winn scored on Ramirez's league-leading 12th passed ball. Nathan Church's sacrifice bunt made it 6-2, which represented the first RBI for Church in just his third MLB game. Miami closed the deficit to 6-4 in the sixth as Edwards singled, Ramirez doubled and Otto Lopez stroked a two-run single past diving second baseman Thomas Saggese. The Cardinals made it 7-4 in the seventh as Winn was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced on Ramirez's throwing error and scored on Saggese's sacrifice fly. --Field Level Media
