Hyderabad: Ministers, Congress MPs and party activists celebrated the birthday of Rahul Gandhi with gusto, highlighting him as the next Prime Minister at the event held at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday. In his message on social media platform X, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy referred to the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha as 'the beacon of hope for India', expressing admiration for his dedication to the people of the nation.
Revanth Reddy went on to describe Rahul Gandhi as a soldier fighting for India, and an inspiration for those who truly love the country. He lauded Gandhi for his unwavering commitment, compassion, and intellect, calling him one of the finest human beings he has ever met. The post also emphasised that Rahul Gandhi's love for the people should be recognized not just in India but across the world. Revanth urged citizens to understand the depth of Gandhi's dedication and his vision for India.
The occasion saw participation from Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Goud, PCC leader Dr P Vinay Kumar and others. The Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka cut a specially made cake along with the sanitation workers. The celebrations continued with a community feast (Sahapankti Bhojanam), where the leaders and workers shared a meal in unity. The highlight of the event came as the workers extended blessings to Rahul Gandhi, expressing their hope that he would one day lead the nation as the Prime Minister, following in the footsteps of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi and his father, Rajiv Gandhi.

New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Friday alleged that the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in the state has almost 'given up' on the proposed 65 per cent reservation for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs). Ramesh, who is the Congress General Secretary in charge of Communications in a post on X, said he proposed three ways out that will make the 65 Per cent reservations in government jobs and educational institutions a reality. 'The PM is in Bihar today. On the basis of the caste survey conducted by the erstwhile INDIA bloc Government in Bihar, the Bihar Government had proposed 65% reservation for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs, and EBCs. This is under challenge in the Courts. The double-engine Govt in Bihar has all but given up,' he said on X. The Rajya Sabha MP in his first step asked to make the Bihar reservations law a part of the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution and amend the Constitution to overcome the 50 per cent ceiling for reservations for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs, and EBCs. 'But there are three ways out that the INC has been demanding for long that will make the 65% reservations a reality. 1. Make the Bihar reservations law a part of the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. This was done by the Narasimha Rao government in 1994 for protecting 69% reservations in Tamil Nadu. 2. Amend the Constitution to overcome the 50% ceiling for reservations for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs, and EBCs. This ceiling has only been imposed because of various Supreme Court judgements over the past six decades,' the Congress Rajya Sabha MP said. He further proposed to implement Article 15(5), which enables reservations for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs, and EBCs in private educational institutions also. 'Article 15(5) enables reservations for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs, and EBCs in PRIVATE educational institutions also. This has been unimplemented in the past 11 years after the Supreme Court upheld the Constitutional amendment that was introduced by Dr Mannohan Singh's government in 2006. Most definitely the INC will take up these three issues of fundamental importance to social justice and empowerment in the Monsoon session of Parliament that begins on July 21, 2025,' he added. This comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar, where he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects at Siwan. Assembly polls in the state are due in October this year. After the government decided to include caste enumeration in the upcoming decadal census, Congress has ramped up its demand for the immediate implementation of the legislation, alongside Article 15(5) to extend reservation to OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis in private educational institutions. Rahul Gandhi begins moving to new official residence on 55th birthday
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi started moving into a new spacious Type-8 official bungalow—5, Sunehri Bagh Road, New Delhi— on his 55th birthday on Thursday. He will fully shift before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on July 21st. A Gandhi aide said he started shifting even as he is likely to continue meeting people at 10 Janpath, his mother Sonia Gandhi's residence, and Indira Bhavan, the Congress headquarters, even after settling in. Gandhi was entitled to the new residence as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. 'He has done it up with a lot of passion, and hence it took a year,' said the aide. The aide said Gandhi has sought to recreate 'a private space' like 12, Tughlaq Lane, the house where he lived earlier. Gandhi has resided at 10, Janpath since 2023, when he vacated 12, Tughlaq Lane, following his disqualification from the Lok Sabha. In August 2023, Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership was restored 137 days after he was disqualified as the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a criminal defamation case filed by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Gujarat. Parliament's Estate Directorate offered Gandhi the Sunehri Bagh residence in 2024 following his return to the Lok Sabha and election as Leader of the Opposition. BJP leader and former Union minister A Narayanaswamy previously occupied the bungalow. Gandhi's sister and Congress leader, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, oversaw the decoration and furnishing of the new house. Gandhi will move into the new home with canine companions, Pidi Gandhi and Yassa, a Jack Russell Terrier. He also gifted his mother, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, a Russell Terrier puppy, Noorie. The aide said it remains to be seen whether Gandhi's office will be at the new residence or Indira Bhavan, indicating that logistical decisions are pending. '[The shift] might herald a new time for RG [Rahul Gandhi...[The new address] will become the nerve centre as we go towards winning the 2029 election.'

Govt ignoring coastal Karnataka, claims BJP
Mangaluru: Accusing the Congress-led state government of apathy and administrative failure in addressing public issues in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a large-scale dharna satyagraha in front of all Gram Panchayat, Town Municipal and City Municipal Council offices across the two districts on June 23. The protest, scheduled between 10 am and 1 pm, aims to highlight what the party describes as 'deliberate neglect' of people's basic civic needs and pending welfare schemes. District BJP presidents, MLAs, MLCs and MPs from both districts are expected to participate in the demonstration. Among the key issues flagged by BJP MLC Kishore Kumar Puttur, who released a statement on Tuesday, are: Delays in plot approval: Residents are allegedly being forced to travel to other taluk headquarters and wait for months to get approvals for residential plot layouts, particularly for Form 9 and 11E. Staff shortages in local bodies: Gram Panchayats continue to face acute staff crunch, with no remedial action from the government. Stalled housing under Ashraya scheme: Approval of houses has been on hold for over two years, and even ongoing works are not receiving sanctioned funds. Rejection of Akrama-Sakrama applications: Widespread dissatisfaction is brewing over what the BJP terms as 'arbitrary' rejection of regularisation applications without proper scrutiny. Non-disbursement of pension schemes: Elderly citizens and beneficiaries under the Sandhya Suraksha scheme are allegedly not receiving their entitled pensions. Threats to Gruha Lakshmi scheme: The government is reportedly considering rolling back the flagship women's welfare scheme, citing fiscal constraints. Misuse of public funds: BJP has criticised the ongoing re-enumeration exercise under the name of census as a misuse of public money. Terming the protest 'a people's movement rather than a political campaign,' Puttur stated that the dharna would be peaceful but firm in conveying the grievances of ordinary citizens to the government.
