Govt ignoring coastal Karnataka, claims BJP
Mangaluru: Accusing the Congress-led state government of apathy and administrative failure in addressing public issues in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a large-scale dharna satyagraha in front of all Gram Panchayat, Town Municipal and City Municipal Council offices across the two districts on June 23. The protest, scheduled between 10 am and 1 pm, aims to highlight what the party describes as 'deliberate neglect' of people's basic civic needs and pending welfare schemes. District BJP presidents, MLAs, MLCs and MPs from both districts are expected to participate in the demonstration.
Among the key issues flagged by BJP MLC Kishore Kumar Puttur, who released a statement on Tuesday, are:
Delays in plot approval: Residents are allegedly being forced to travel to other taluk headquarters and wait for months to get approvals for residential plot layouts, particularly for Form 9 and 11E.
Staff shortages in local bodies: Gram Panchayats continue to face acute staff crunch, with no remedial action from the government.
Stalled housing under Ashraya scheme: Approval of houses has been on hold for over two years, and even ongoing works are not receiving sanctioned funds.
Rejection of Akrama-Sakrama applications: Widespread dissatisfaction is brewing over what the BJP terms as 'arbitrary' rejection of regularisation applications without proper scrutiny.
Non-disbursement of pension schemes: Elderly citizens and beneficiaries under the Sandhya Suraksha scheme are allegedly not receiving their entitled pensions.
Threats to Gruha Lakshmi scheme: The government is reportedly considering rolling back the flagship women's welfare scheme, citing fiscal constraints.
Misuse of public funds: BJP has criticised the ongoing re-enumeration exercise under the name of census as a misuse of public money. Terming the protest 'a people's movement rather than a political campaign,' Puttur stated that the dharna would be peaceful but firm in conveying the grievances of ordinary citizens to the government.

While families of its leaders became rich, the people remained poor,' he said, adding that Dalits and backward communities suffered the most under previous regimes. 'They nurtured gunda raj, mafia raj, and corruption. The jungle raj rulers had completely shut down Bihar's engine of development. But today, an engine made in Bihar will power trains in Africa—this is the new India,' he said. He also praised the BJP-JD(U) government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, for restoring the state's development momentum. ₹10,000 crore projects launched across key sectors PM Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects across the water, rail, and power sectors worth more than ₹10,000 crore. These are aimed at improving employment opportunities and regional connectivity in Bihar. Ambedkar video controversy escalates political row The Prime Minister also criticised RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav over a viral video from his birthday celebration. The clip showed a supporter placing a portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar near Yadav's feet, allegedly without objection. 'RJD will never apologise because they don't respect Dalits. Babasaheb Ambedkar lives in my heart. The people of Bihar will never forgive this insult,' PM Modi said. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has since written to the Bihar Chief Secretary seeking a report, while the state SC Commission has issued a notice to Yadav. PM Modi connects Bihar to India's global rise at G7 Referring to his recent trip to the G7 Summit in Canada, PM Modi said India's growing economic power is being noticed globally—and Bihar will be a key contributor. 'From makhana and vegetables to industrial goods, Bihar's products will reach global markets. Bihar will help power India's rise as the third-largest economy,' he said.

‘PM coming to Bihar not for welfare but to seek votes,' says Prashant Kishor
Jan Suraaj Founder Prashant Kishor on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar, claiming it was not aimed at the state's development but solely focused on securing votes for the BJP-led NDA alliance. Speaking to ANI, Kishor said, "PM is not coming for the first time... PM Modi is not coming for the welfare and development of Bihar but to seek votes for the BJP and NDA." Kishor questioned the Prime Minister's claims about new development projects in the state, pointing out that some of the initiatives were already functional. "The locomotive factory is already there in Marhowrah; it is nothing new," he said, referring to the manufacturing unit often highlighted in government speeches. On Thursday, Prashant Kishor slammed PM Modi's visit to Bihar, labelling it political campaigning funded by the state's taxpayers. Speaking in Gopalganj, Kishor criticised Modi's third visit in two months, alleging a pattern by the NDA-BJP government to use government resources for electioneering. "Prime Minister is coming here (to Bihar) for the third time in the last two months. Just like we said the last time, this is a set pattern of the NDA-BJP Government that, wherever elections are due, the PM comes there as the government visit and does political campaigning. The same is happening in Bihar as well. We saw this in Madhubani too," Kishor said. He urged PM Modi to address Bihar's persistent migration crisis, noting that lakhs of Bihari youth vote for the BJP due to Modi's appeal but are forced to seek work in states like Gujarat." People want the PM to tell them when migration from Bihar will stop... It is time to ask PM Modi why factories are set up just in Gujarat and not in Bihar.
