"As per eligibility criteria, there are 25,756 retired Central Government subscribers eligible to receive additional benefits under UPS," Ms. Sitharaman said.
'These eligible subscribers are those Central Government employees who have either superannuated or deceased, or retired under Fundamental Rules 56(j), on or before March 31, 2025, after completing 10 years or more of qualifying service and were covered under NPS,' the Minister said.

Call for debate on Op Sindoor backfired on Opposition: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that the opposition's demand for a debate on Operation Sindoor boomeranged on them, with the entire country seeing their reluctance to acknowledge the success of the armed forces, exposing the disconnect between their stand and popular sentiments. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Modi emphasised that while the entire country celebrated the valour of troops, the opposition raised doubts about their accomplishment. "Such discussions are welcome but the opposition failed to see the sentiments of 140 crore Indians. They must now regret demanding this debate," sources quoted him as saying at NDA parliamentary party meeting. They failed to read nation's pulse and ended up scoring a self goal, he further said, according to sources. Modi recalled that he had referred to the opposition's failure to grasp the national achievement right at the outset of his speech during the debate. "Today, I stand to present India's perspective and hold a mirror to those who fail to see it," sources quoted him as saying. Sources said Modi urged NDA leaders to amplify the collective voice of a "New India," which has resolutely responded to terrorists and their patrons. His remarks drew applause from NDA MPs, who greeted him with chants of "Har Har Mahadev". After the meeting - the first during Parliament's monsoon session - NDA leaders marched from the Balayogi Auditorium to the new Parliament building, showcasing unity. Meanwhile, opposition MPs protested near the Gandhi statue, demanding a discussion on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Modi emphasised the NDA's identity as a natural and organic alliance, reflecting on its successes since its founding in 1998 and its potential for future achievements. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now At the NDA meeting - the second since the govt's formation in June 2024 -Modi was felicitated for his "exceptional leadership" in guiding India's response to Pahalgam terror attack. Modi urged MPs to participate enthusiastically in upcoming events like the Tiranga Yatra, held annually before Independence Day, and National Space Day on Aug 23. He highlighted historical significance of Aug 5, marking the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which ended special rights for J&K, and the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya in 2020.

Big INDIA bloc parties reject smaller allies' plea to find a way to let Parliament run

NEW DELHI: As the opposition's protest seeking a discussion on the special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls has brought Parliament to a halt, some members in the INDIA bloc ranks Tuesday urged the alliance brass to find a way to run Parliament, but their plea was shot down. Sources said at the meeting of the INDIA bloc on Tuesday morning, CPM's John Brittas, RSP's NK Premachandran and IUML's ET Mohammed Basheer felt that the Parliament session should not be washed out. While Brittas is a Rajya Sabha MP, Basheer and Premachandran are in Lok Sabha. However, their plea was countered strongly by the bigger parties of the bloc like Congress , DMK, TMC, SP, Shiv Sena, RJD, who felt the govt cannot get away by evading a discussion on a politically critical issue like the electoral rolls review. With the opposition programmes targeting the Election Commission lined up in coming days - dinner meeting at Rahul Gandhi's residence on Thursday, Bangalore protest led by Rahul on Friday, and the joint march to EC on Aug 11 - the opposition is unlikely to relent till then. A wider consensus to raise a protest over the electoral roll revision was evolved last week after a discussion on Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor in the two Houses over three days. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 25 Brilliant Plant Hacks That Will Change the Way You Grow Things Learn More Undo As they gathered to chart out the future strategy, SIR came to dominate the discussion. Opposition leaders were told by Rahul that issues being raised in Parliament were important but BJP was winning elections by manipulating the electoral rolls. He told INDIA bloc members that a "deep dive" on voters' list done by Congress in a sample Bangalore seat has unearthed serious irregularities, and the govt should be forced to discuss the subject in Parliament. Since then, the opposition has mounted vigorous protests in the parliament every morning.

No plan to restore Old Pension Scheme: Govt

Bhopal: The state govt has no intention of reverting to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), deputy CM and finance minister Jagdish Dewda told the assembly on Tuesday. Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Sena Patel during Question Hour, Dewda said state employees appointed after 2005 would continue to receive retirement benefits under the New Pension Scheme (NPS). There was no proposal under the consideration of the state govt to restore the OPS, he said. In her supplementary question, Patel asked that the pension under NPS was market-based and the govt should reconsider reverting to the OPS to ensure financial security of its employees after they retire from jobs. She further said several states, including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab, were going back to the OPS, but Dewda maintained that he had made it clear in his written reply that no proposal to restore OPS was under the consideration.
