Best reactions to Michigan State's Big Ten title winning victory over Iowa

Yahoo07-03-2025
Michigan State basketball finally did it again. After waiting than this fan base and program is used to for a Big Ten title win, the Spartans earned an outright Big Ten Championship on Thursday night after they came from behind to beat Iowa on the road in Iowa City, 91 to 84.
It was the first Big Ten Title win for the Spartans since the 2019-20 season, although they had to share that title with Wisconsin. The Spartans got some help in winning this one from rival Michigan, who lost two straight games to give MSU the chance to win the title with a win on Thursday night, and the Spartans seized the opportunity. Sunday's game against the Wolverines will just be the cherry on top for a massively satisfying season for the Spartans.
After the game, social media was going crazy celebrating MSU's win. You can see some of the best reactions below:

Club's new 13-year-old stadium announcer praised

A young football fan who stepped up at short notice to provide cover as a stadium announcer said he was pleased to have received "loads of compliments". When Burscough FC put out an SOS this summer, 13-year-old James - whose dad Richard volunteers as a kitman at the North West Counties Premier club - put his hand up. Richard said that while James was "very nervous" while announcing the teams in front of about 100 fans at his first game a few weeks ago, his son "hit his stride" on Saturday during his second match at the mic. "He made it his own," Richard explained. "Everyone commented how amazing he was." He said his son's performance was akin to the emphatic style typically employed by boxing commentators during big fights. "Everyone, including his mum and me to be honest, was really pleased at how he seemed to take it in his stride, " Richard added. "He was in his element!" James said he found the experience "very good" and will appear behind the mic at Burscough's next match. "I've always wanted to do it and be a sports reporter," said the young teenager. "I got loads of compliments." To top it off, Burscough FC beat rivals Longridge Town 2-1. Listen to the best of BBC Radio Lancashire on Sounds and follow BBC Lancashire on Facebook, X and Instagram. Positive update on Luka Doncic following injury scare on Saturday

On Saturday, Luka Doncic played in his second friendly in advance of EuroBasket 2025 for his native Slovenia. He put on a show in the first half by scoring an efficient 26 points and dishing off five assists versus Latvia. But he suffered an injury scare when he collided with a teammate and hurt his knee. He was forced to leave the game, but the good news was that he was diagnosed with a mere knee contusion that isn't believed to be serious. Slovenia will play its next-to-last friendly this Tuesday against Great Britain. According to the nation's official team X (formerly Twitter) account, Doncic will return to practice on Monday (translated into English). "After the match in Riga, the team will continue preparations for EuroBasket on Monday – already on Tuesday, a clash with Great Britain awaits us at Arena Stožice." "The team will also be joined in training by captain Luka Dončić, who fortunately finished the game against Latvia without injury." This is obviously proof that Doncic avoided any real injury on Saturday and should be OK moving forward. After Tuesday, Slovenia will play one more friendly on Thursday, Aug. 21 against Serbia. It will then officially begin its EuroBasket schedule on Thursday, Aug. 28, when it takes on Poland.

Detroit sports radio host outlines 3 goals for Michigan State football this season

One of the biggest sports personalities in the state has outlined his expectations for Michigan State football this year, with a simple question of whether or not they are unreasonable or not. Mike Valenti of 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit provided his expectations and goals for the Spartans this upcoming season, and wants the fans to weigh in on whether or not he's being reasonable. Here are the outlined expectations Valenti provided during a show earlier this week: Seems pretty reasonable to me -- the bigger question is whether or not the Spartans can get that done. Valenti is a Spartans alum and has been known for holding Michigan State to high standards. This list of expectations seems about right, in my opinion, and something I believe they can achieve this fall. In my preseason predictions, I have Michigan State going 7-5 with notable wins over Indiana and Michigan that would qualify as the significant victory Valenti is calling for. I also believe their offense will be "fun again" as he said during his show -- so for me, Michigan State nearly checks all of those boxes in my personal outlook for the season.
