Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's visit to Bihar on Friday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav stated that the PM was coming to the state to tell "lies".In a post on social media X, Yadav shared a poster of the PM and wrote, "Prime Minister Modi is coming to Bihar today to tell lies. Would you like to listen to lies?"The PM will visit Bihar's Motihari today, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth Rs 7,200 crore.In a post on X, PM Modi said, "Will be in Motihari, Bihar, tomorrow, 18th July. Development works worth Rs. 7200 crore will be dedicated to the nation or their foundation stones would be laid. These works cover Software Technology Parks, four new Amrit Bharat trains , road projects and more."According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday, he will also address a public function.The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone, inaugurate and dedicate to the nation development projects catering to Rail, Road, Rural Development, Fisheries, Electronics and Information Technology sectors.In line with his commitment to boost connectivity and infrastructure, Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation multiple rail projects. It includes automatic signalling between Samastipur-Bachhwara rail line that will enable efficient train operations in this section.Doubling of Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur rail line part of Darbhanga-Samastipur doubling project worth over Rs 580 crore that will enhance the capacity of train operations and reduce delays.Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for multiple rail projects. Rail projects include development of infrastructure for maintenance of Vande Bharat trains at Patliputra. Automatic signalling on Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin rail line (114 km) to enable streamlined train operations.Upgradation of traction system in Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin section to enable higher train speeds by strengthening the traction system infrastructure and optimising energy efficiency.Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail line doubling project worth around Rs 4,080 crore to increase sectional capacity, enable operation of more passenger and freight trains, strengthen connectivity between North Bihar and the rest of the country.In a major boost to road infrastructure in the region, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for 4-laning of Ara bypass of NH-319 that connects Ara-Mohania NH-319 and Patna-Buxar NH-922 providing seamless connectivity and reducing travel time.Prime Minister will also inaugurate the 4-lane Parariya to Mohania section of NH-319, worth over Rs 820 crore, part of NH-319 which connects Ara Town to NH-02 (Golden Quadrilateral) that will improve freight and passenger movement. Among others, a 2-lane with paved shoulder from Sarwan to Chakai of NH-333C which will facilitate the movement of goods and people and act as a key link between Bihar and Jharkhand.Prime Minister will inaugurate New Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility at Darbhanga and State of the art Incubation Facility of STPI at Patna for promoting IT/ITES/ESDM Industry and Startups. These facilities will help in boosting IT software and service exports. It will also nurture the tech startup ecosystem for budding entrepreneurs, encourage innovation, IPR and product development.In a major step towards strengthening the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Bihar, Prime Minister will inaugurate a series of fisheries development projects sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).This will mark the launch of modern fisheries infrastructure including new fish hatcheries, biofloc units, ornamental fish farming, integrated aquaculture units, and fish feed mills across various districts in Bihar. Aquaculture projects will help in generating employment opportunities, enhance fish production, promote entrepreneurship, and accelerate socio-economic development in rural areas of Bihar.In line with his vision of a future-ready railway network, Prime Minister will flag off four new Amrit Bharat trains between Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna) to New Delhi, Bapudham Motihari to Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal), Darbhanga to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) and Malda Town to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) via Bhagalpur improving connectivity in the region.Prime Minister will also release Rs 400 crore to around 61,500 Self-Help Groups in Bihar under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). With a special focus on women-led development, over 10 crore women have been connected to Self-Help Groups (SHGs).Prime Minister will also hand over keys to some beneficiaries as a part of Griha Pravesh of 12,000 beneficiaries and release over Rs 160 crore to 40,000 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin.

PM Modi to dedicate railway projects worth Rs 1,030 crore in Tamil Nadu
CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a series of development projects in Tamil Nadu during his visit to Thoothukudi on Saturday, including key railway electrification and doubling works valued at Rs 1,030 crore. The PM will dedicate three critical railway infrastructure projects: Electrification of the 90 km Madurai-Bodinayakkanur line, doubling of the 21 km Nagercoil Town-Kanniyakumari section under the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanniyakumari corridor, and doubling of the Aralvaymozhi-Nagercoil Junction (12.87 km and Tirunelveli-Melappalaiyam (3.6 km) stretches. The Madurai-Bodinayakkanur section, previously a meter gauge route, was converted to broad gauge at a cost of Rs 99 crore. This is expected to promote environmentally sustainable transport, enhance tourism, and benefit farmers, students, and small traders in the Madurai and Theni districts. Similarly, the doubling of tracks in Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari will significantly boost rail connectivity across southern Tamil Nadu. The project facilitates the introduction of more passenger and freight services while enhancing overall operational efficiency, according to an official release. For the Nagercoil Town-Kanniyakumari doubling project alone, the railways incurred an expenditure of Rs 650 crore, forming a vital part of the larger Thiruvanan–thapuram-Kanniyakumari corridor. The remaining two sections – Aralvaymozhi-Nagercoil and Tirunelveli-Melappalaiyam - were completed at a cost of Rs 283 crore, the release said.

Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar project stalled due to DMK's political vendetta: Edappadi K Palaniswami
PUDUKKOTTAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has accused the DMK government of shelving 'the highly beneficial' Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar link canal project due to political vendetta. Addressing a gathering during his statewide tour titled 'Makkalai Kappom; Thamizhagathai Meetpom' in Gandarvakottai in Pudukkottai district, Palaniswami said the project that was launched by him during his tenure as chief minister with an initial allocation of Rs 700 crore would have led to the prosperity of Gandarvakottai constituency, which is rich in agriculture and has a high concentration of farmers and agricultural labourers. 'However, after the DMK assumed power, the project was put on hold,' he said. The AIADMK chief said had the project been completed, waterbodies would have been filled, and the groundwater level would have risen. 'An excellent project has been stalled due to political vendetta. Once the AIADMK returns to power, the project initiated at an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore will be implemented,' he said. Palaniswami further took a dig at the DMK's public outreach programme, saying the ruling party has now been reduced to a situation where it has to go door to door pleading with people to join the party. 'In contrast, the AIADMK is a party with strong influence and stature like steel, with the ISI stamp on it,' he said. Criticising the DMK government's performance, the opposition leader said despite the DMK promising to extend the 100-day employment scheme to 150 days before coming to power, the government has failed to fulfil it. 'They have not waived off education loans either. These are the people who captured power by spreading lies,' he added.

PM's foreign visits cost Centre Rs 350 cr since '21
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits between 2021 and July 2025 might have strengthened India's bilateral ties with the host nations, but they have also incurred a cost of nearly Rs 300 crore to the exchequer. That includes Rs 67 crore spent on his five foreign visits in February, March and April this year to the United States, France, Mauritius, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of External Affairs, in a written reply to the questions of TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien, has shared the details of expenditures. The data reveal that Modi visited France and the United States between February 10 and 13, for which the expenses totalled Rs 25,59,82,902 for the French visit and Rs 16,54,84,302 for the US visit, respectively. His visits to Thailand and Sri Lanka from April 3 to 6 cost over Rs 9 crore (`4,92,81,208 in Thailand and Rs 4,46,21,690 in Sri Lanka). He went to Saudi Arabia from April 22 to 23, during which Rs 15,54,03,792.47 was incurred. The PM also visited Mauritius(March 11-12), Cyprus, Canada and Croatia (July 15-19) and Ghana, Trinidad &Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia (July 2-9), but the expenditures have not been shared as the bills are still under settlement. In 2024, the PM visited the UAE and Qatar (February 13-15), during which the exchequer spent Rs 3,14,30,607 (Qatar), while on his next visit to Bhutan (March 22-23), Rs 4,50,27,271 was spent. An amount of Rs 14,36,55,289 was spent on his visit to Italy (June 13-14). His visits to Austria and Russia from July 8 to 10 cost Rs 4,35,35,765 and Rs 5,34,71,726, respectively.
