Tripura adopted zero-tolerance policy against drug menace on PM Modi, HM Shah's advice: CM Saha
Inaugurating and laying foundation stones of various projects worth Rs 42.46 crore in Dhalai district, the Chief Minister said that Tripura is being used as a corridor for the illegal drugs trade and the law enforcement agencies are always remain extra alert to curb the illicit activities.
'Of late we have witnessed a section of girls become involved in the drug menaces and its abuse. Abusing of drugs through Intravenous Injection has been rising in Tripura causing spread of HIV/AIDS,' said Saha, who also holds Health and Family Welfare and Education portfolios.
He said that the Union Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry has already sanctioned Rs 198 crore for setting up a special drug de-addiction centre at Bishramganj in the state's Sepahijala district.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has already decided to set up drug de-addiction centres in all the eight districts of the state, with Rs 20 crore would be spent for each of the centres.
During the financial year 2024-2025, the seizure of drugs increased by 103 per cent and destruction of seized drugs increased by 132 per cent, he added.
Claiming that Tripura would become a militancy-free state, the Chief Minister said that after a tripartite agreement in Delhi in presence of Union Home Minister, several hundred militants from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) surrendered to the state government in September last year.
He also announced that all the promises made to the NLFT and ATTF cadres would be fulfilled by the government. He said that after the BJP government came to power in Tripura in 2018, all social parameters of the state improved.
"Tripura is in the second position in the northeast region in GDP after Assam. The state is in the second position in the region in per capita income after Sikkim. The huge untapped natural resources and vast environmental beauty of Tripura are a treasure, and the state government has been trying to effectively put them to use for the state,' the Chief Minister said.
He said that the empowerment of women and all-round development of the tribals are the priority of the government, while development in the education and health sectors are also thrust areas of the government.
CM Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, claimed that Tripura is the third-best state in the country in maintaining law and order situation.
"Compared to 2023, during 2024, crime rate declined by 19.4 per cent. To curb the cyber crimes in Tripura, a state-level Cyber Crime Police Station was inaugurated on Saturday at Arundhutinagar Nagar on the outskirts of Agartala,' the Chief Minister said.

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, now passed by both houses of Parliament, outlaws online money gaming services and penalises their celebrity endorsers. The Bill has been drafted over national security concerns related to online gaming platforms, including the use of digital wallets and cryptocurrencies for money laundering and illicit fund transfers, these platforms serving as potential messaging and communication grounds for terror organisations, and offshore entities circumventing Indian tax and legal obligations, among others. The government will prohibit any person from offering online games in India, failing which they could be imprisoned for up to three years, and penalised Rs 1 crore. Those promoting such platforms, such as social media influencers, will also face jail time of two years, and a penalty of Rs 50 lakh. The government will also prohibit banks and financial institutions from facilitating financial transactions on such platforms. The Bill applies to all online money gaming platforms irrespective of whether they are games of skill or chance, a distinction the industry had lobbied hard for in the past. The Bill said that the unchecked expansion of online money gaming services has been linked to 'unlawful activities including financial fraud, money-laundering, tax evasion, and in some cases, the financing of terrorism, thereby posing threats to national security, public order and the integrity of the State'. The parallel proliferation of online money games accessible through mobile phones, computers and the internet, and offering monetary returns against user deposits has led to 'serious social, financial, psychological and public health harms, particularly among young individuals and economically disadvantaged groups,' it said.

The meeting, organised by the Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) under the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), brought together a diverse group of district officials, law enforcement, healthcare workers, and NGO representatives. Chaired by Pranjal Baruah, additional district commissioner (health), the meeting at the DC Conference Hall aimed to strategise the second round of PMPSE, which focuses on mapping and estimating the size of high-risk groups, including clients of sex workers. Maha counter to US tariff: 100 tweaks to boost biz
Mumbai: At a meeting on Thursday to discuss challenges posed by US tariffs to exports, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state should make 100 amendments to improve the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the state. He also said a War Room will be set up to improve the EoDB policy, which will be reviewed every month. Fadnavis said the state should find alternative markets for its goods. He also said imposition of tariffs should not be treated not as a disaster but as an opportunity to improve the EoDB. Of the state's exports to the US, the bulk is gems and jewellery (38.9%), followed by Electronics and ESDM (17.6%), chemicals (8%), engineering goods and auto components (7.7%), textiles and apparel (7%), plastics (5.2%) and agro and marine products (4.9%). Besides, we are focusing on clearing the backlog on incentives given to industrial units and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)," said a senior official who attended the meeting. The state has already cleared incentives worth Rs 1,300 crore to MSMEs recently and the clearance of incentives worth another Rs 2,500 crore is on the cards. Since MSMEs work on limited capital, the state is focusing on helping them cope. Fadnavis also said entrepreneurs should be encouraged to set up private industrial parks for which the MIDC should come up with a plan. The single window portal for industry licenses should be made more efficient so that no permission is required for agro-based industries over an area of five hectares in the state. The pollution fines for industries that do not harm the environment should be revised and additional fines should not be levied anywhere, Fadnavis said. Arrangements should be made to reduce time taken to obtain permissions. The process of calculating the land required for the industry should be expedited, he added. The state plans to create a land bank to arrange plots for setting up industries immediately. It plans to make the plot distribution process transparent and fast, and make arrangements for issuing environmental permits within 60 days.
