5-star WR Calvin Russell announces college commitment
While the Oregon Ducks were among the top schools for Russell, the No. 21 player and No. 3 WR in the class, per 247 Sports, they ultimately were unable to land him. On Saturday night, Russell announced his commitment to the Syracuse Orange.
Russell took an official visit to Oregon in June and had the Ducks among his top schools. Still, the Ducks weren't a strong contender late in his recruitment as Syracuse and Michigan got into a bidding war over the top-tier prospect.
Meanwhile, the Ducks — who landed 4-star WR Messiah Hampton last month — are considered the favorite to land 4-star WR Jalen Lott when he announces his commitment in a few days.
Following the recent surge in commitments, Oregon now boasts the No. 10 class in the 2026 cycle and is likely to improve it further with a few more commitments on the horizon.

Alabama reportedly trending to add second quarterback prospect to soaring 2026 class
Could the Alabama Crimson Tide potentially add yet another quarterback to its' 2026 recruiting class? Yes, even despite Alabama already owning a commitment from signal collar Jett Thomalla, the Crimson Tide are reportedly trending to land another quarterback in the 2026 class, per On3's Steve Wiltfong. That prospect is four-star Tayden Kaawa, who ranks as the nations No. 345 overall player in the 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings. Kaawa is also considered as the No. 6 player in the state of Utah where he attends Orem High School, as well as the No. 24 overall quarterback in the cycle. At the moment, a commitment date is not currently set for Kaawa, but could be coming in the near future, according to Wiltfong. Other schools in the mix for Kaawa's commitment include the likes of BYU and Boise State, among others. Alabama's 2026 class currently ranks No. 5 nationally according to the 247Sports Team Rankings with a total of 19 commitments. Of those 19, four are currently considered as five-star prospects. Steelers send T.J. Watt to Patriots for standout safety in bold trade prediction
T.J. Watt trade speculation is reaching an all-time high — when analysts aren't predicting if he'll re-sign with the Steelers, they're predicting where he'll land next. Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski recently predicted four trade packages for Watt — but arguably the most surprising sees Pittsburgh send their star defender to the Patriots for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, and former first-round safety Jabrill Peppers. "Because the Patriots are still in transition, they can send veteran safety Jabrill Peppers back in return," Sobleski wrote. "They're unlikely to give up a future first-rounder, though. Pittsburgh still has DeShon Elliott and Juan Thornhill along the back line, but Peppers can be used as a defensive chess piece to help offset the loss of Minkah Fitzpatrick." It almost feels criminal, even in a trade prediction, to suggest the Steelers would trade away Watt for anything less than a first-round pick. But considering the shocking George Pickens' and Minkah Fitzpatrick's packages this offseason, anything is possible. Adam Schefter reported that while the Steelers aren't willing to deal their superstar defender, outside trade interest in Watt is expected to increase following the recent acquisitions of Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith. It's unlikely Pittsburgh entertains any trade offers for Watt, but as negotiations drag on, one has to wonder — is a 30-year-old edge rusher, potentially exiting his prime, worth over $40 million per year? ESPN thinks this Oklahoma player could be a sleeper this year
The Oklahoma Sooners are in desperate need of a bounce-back campaign in 2025. A dismal offensive showing in OU's first season in the SEC led to a 6-7 overall record and a 2-6 mark in conference play. One of the many reasons that Oklahoma had so much trouble moving the ball on offense was the wide receiver play. OU's top five projected receivers missed all or most of the 2024 season due to injury. That forced backups and true freshmen to step into roles they weren't ready for, and the Oklahoma passing game crumbled. Wide receiver certainly wasn't the only problem on an offense full of them, but it's an area that has to improve along with the rest of the offense in 2025. ESPN believes there's a player at this position on the Sooners roster who isa bit under the radar that can help OU right the ship. A handful of ESPN's college football writers identified sleeper players for each of their preseason top 25 teams. For Oklahoma, who came in at No. 25 in the rankings, they chose sophomore wide receiver Zion Kearney. The Sooners were besieged with injuries at the receiver position last season, and some of their more talented pass catchers hit the transfer portal, including Nic Anderson. With new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and his Air Raid offense coming to Norman, that means Oklahoma will utilize even more receivers. Kearney, a true sophomore, has a chance to make a big jump after playing as a backup in 11 games as a freshman. He has the size (6-1, 207 pounds) and speed (4.28 40-yard dash in high school) to be a staple in the Sooners' passing game, especially with John Mateer stepping in at quarterback. - Chris Low, ESPN. Kearney wasn't ready to play the kind of snaps he did in 2024, but all of that experience is a good learning opportunity for him. The Sooners and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones remade the position group in the transfer portal this offseason, and Kearney was one of a handful of players who decided to stick around in Norman. Kearney also had a nice performance in OU's Armed Forces Bowl loss against Navy. He posted his most receiving yards of the season and his only career touchdown on a scramble drill play from Michael Hawkins Jr. He also managed four catches against Texas back in October. With a lot of question marks and some lingering injury concerns for OU's wide receiver group heading into fall camp, Kearney could be a surprise player to watch in his second season as a Sooner.
