Alabama reportedly trending to add second quarterback prospect to soaring 2026 class
Yes, even despite Alabama already owning a commitment from signal collar Jett Thomalla, the Crimson Tide are reportedly trending to land another quarterback in the 2026 class, per On3's Steve Wiltfong.
That prospect is four-star Tayden Kaawa, who ranks as the nations No. 345 overall player in the 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings. Kaawa is also considered as the No. 6 player in the state of Utah where he attends Orem High School, as well as the No. 24 overall quarterback in the cycle.
At the moment, a commitment date is not currently set for Kaawa, but could be coming in the near future, according to Wiltfong. Other schools in the mix for Kaawa's commitment include the likes of BYU and Boise State, among others.
Alabama's 2026 class currently ranks No. 5 nationally according to the 247Sports Team Rankings with a total of 19 commitments. Of those 19, four are currently considered as five-star prospects.

For the University of Minnesota Gophers football, high school recruiting goes into another gear this time of year. In June alone, dozens and dozens of recruits from around the country have been cycled on and off campus, as PJ Fleck & Co try for to verbally nail down one of the best classes of his tenure in Dinkytown. This week, though, may be PJ's most crucial high school recruiting week since the pride of Esko, Koi Perich, was choosing between the Gophers and Ohio State 1.5 years ago. And it starts right away on Monday, when the No. 1 rated high school football player in Minnesota (247Sports) will announce his verbal commitment. Advertisement Decision Day from top 2026 MN football recruit, Roman Voss Roman Voss is a 4-star athlete (91 OVR) out of Jackson, MN. Prior to Monday's decision, Voss' list of schools — which had included Auburn, Cal, Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, Miami, Wisconsin, USC and Oklahoma (among others) — had already been whittled down to two schools — his home-state Gophers and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Voss played mostly quarterback at Jackson High, but both Minnesota and Alabama want the 6'4″ 225 lb freak athlete as a tight end. You don't have to watch his highlights long to see why. Since the 2025 calendar turned to June, the Minnesota Gophers have landed a whopping 14 commitments for the class of 2026. Weekend after weekend, PJ Fleck and his coaching staff have been cycling dozens of the most talented high school football players in the nation through Dinkytown. (ATH) Pierce Petersohn picking Gopher Football or Penn State But Roman Voss isn't the only in-state freak athlete the Minnesota Gophers are chasing this week. The other — 3-star (89 OVR – ATH) Pierce Petersohn — is out of Triton High School, near Dodge Center. He too is down to two schools, one being his home-state Gophers, the other being Big Ten rival, Penn State. Advertisement 247Sports has Petersohn (ATH) — who stands at 6'5″, 195 lbs and played QB/FS at Triton — ranked as the 4th best high school football player in the state. Other recruiting sites like him even more, which is why he is a composite 4-star recruit. One intriguing thing to watch with Pierce — Penn State wants him as a tight end, while Minnesota — who already has one tight end commit and could be on the verge of two — is recruiting him as a linebacker. Petersohn also held offers from Duke, Iowa, Iowa State and Kansas State, before recently narrowing his list down to two. Last week alone, Minnesota reeled eight more commits into PJ's 2026 recruiting boat, a grab that included the second (247Sports) four-star of the Golden Gophers' 2026 class — Forest Lake defensive lineman, Howie Johnson. Advertisement Most take their visit during the two-week 'Summer Splash' event, which is used mostly to convince out of state recruits that Minnesota is not a frozen wasteland year-round. Paul Finebaum makes bold claim about Ohio State chances of repeating as national champions
Ohio State got up off the mat after a loss to Michigan at home to go on a historic run to win the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. It was a veteran team with a lot of talent that finally began to play like the best team in the country, leaving a several top ten teams in its wake on the way to a memorable season. Despite losing 14 players off the roster to the NFL draft, there are many who still believe there's enough talent on the roster for Ohio State to defend its national title and be right there at the end again. After all, OSU has the two best players in college football with Jeremiah Smith on offense and Caleb Downs on defense, plus a five-star talent that could be taking the reigns of the offense in Julian Sayin. But not everyone thinks Ohio State has what it takes. ESPN's Paul Finebaum is one of those who think the Buckeyes don't quite have what it takes to repeat. When appearing on "Get Up," he didn't beat around the bush when asked if Ohio State could repeat. 'I don't like Ohio State,' Finebaum said. 'I think Ohio State is going to lose in the opener against Texas, and they are going to struggle to make the playoffs, let alone win it all.' Finebaum stayed on Ohio State in addressing Smith's "promise" to beat Michigan the next two seasons with some critical words for Ryan Day. 'I'm glad to see someone on the Ohio State lineup maybe do something more than just mouthing words because Jeremiah sounds serious,' Finebaum said. 'Ryan Day has promised after every loss not to lose again, and he continues to lose again. "They are the defending national champions, so even clowns like me on the fourth of July are not going to call for a firing of a coach because he loses one game. But that is a game he has to deal with at some point. But that national championship game will pay a lot of bills, probably, yes, including another loss to Michigan.' Finebaum has never been short on criticism and controversy, and his critiques of teams often go over the top, but at least you know what you are getting from him. He doesn't mince words, and in this case, he clearly believes Ohio State is a far cry from the team we saw last season, so much so that he doesn't even think the roster is good enough to easily get into the College Football Playoff. BTN analyst shares positive remarks on Michigan State hoops entering next season
One Big Ten Network basketball analyst seems to be pretty high on the Spartans heading into next season. Former Purdue Boilermaker and current Big Ten Network analyst Rapheal Davis shared some positive remarks on the Spartans for next season this week. Davis took to social media platform X to note he's expecting big things from Coen Carr, Jeremy Fears Jr. and Carson Cooper this upcoming season. Here's the exact post on X from Davis: This is the first time this offseason that Davis has provided positive insight on the Spartans from his point of view. He recently was praising the growth he was hearing for Carr and has also previously said he's expecting a breakout season for Fears. Michigan State is coming off a Big Ten championship winning season, where they also reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans, though, lost a number of key contributors off last year's team, including Jaden Akins, Jase Richardson and Tre Holloman. It's clear Davis is high on Michigan State entering next season and would assume he'd consider them a solid value pick to make some noise in the Big Ten. It'll be interesting to see if Carr, Fears and Cooper can live up to this hype this season, and truly elevate their game to lead the Spartans to another strong year on the hardwood.
