Tesla driver arrested after crashing into power pole in Abbotsford
The Abbotsford Police Department shared this photo of a Tesla whose driver was arrested for dangerous driving on Aug. 1, 2025. A speeding Tesla driver was arrested after crashing into a power pole in Abbotsford, according to authorities. Officers spotted the vehicle 'travelling at dangerously high speeds' just after midnight Friday but 'briefly lost sight' of the car when it rounded a corner, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a social media post. Moments later, police came upon the crash scene. 'The 21-year-old driver was arrested at the scene for dangerous driving and is now facing a court date. Two passengers were detained but later released. Fortunately, no injuries were reported,' the social media post said, adding it was lucky no one was injured. The crash knocked out power to hundreds in the area overnight and prompted a lengthy road closure, police added. A conviction for the Criminal Code offence of dangerous driving can result in fines or jail time, depending on the circumstances of the case.

Two additional bodies found in Bracebridge; suspect remains at large
Bracebridge OPP are asking the public to location 29-year-old Mitchell Gray who is wanted for his connection to a death of a male and arson in Bracebridge on Aug 1, 2025 Bracebridge OPP have found two additional bodies inside a residence on Beatrice Town Line Road in Bracebridge. On Friday August 1, before 8:00 p.m. police responded to a report of gunfire on Beatrice Town Line Road and upon arrival found one dead body and the house fully engulfed in flames. A shelter in place was initiated during the response but has since been lifted and police say there is no additional threat to the public. According to police two more bodies were discovered in the residence that was destroyed by the fire and their identities cannot be confirmed until a post-mortem examination is conducted. Police are in search for 29-year-old Mitchell Gray of Bracebridge who is wanted for murder. Police describe him as a white male, approximately 5′8 with light brown hair and facial hair. Anyone with information is asked to call OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Two men dead after separate drownings in Manitoba
Manitoba RCMP are investigating two separate drowning incidents that claimed the lives of two men on Saturday. Steinbach RCMP were called to Reynolds Ponds in the Rural Municipality of Reynolds around 2 p.m. Officers were told a man had been swimming when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface and did not come up. Bystanders were searching for the swimmer but did not find the man. The Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was deployed to assist in the search. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later found dead. Drowning in Grand Beach Later that evening, Selkirk RCMP responded to another drowning at Grand Beach around 8 p.m. Police were told two men had gone out onto the lake on a pool floatation device, then the men lost their balance and fell into the water. One man was rescued by a nearby kayaker, but the second man did not resurface. The Underwater Recovery Team located the body of a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
