As per the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the incident took place over the May Day holiday when the couple checked into a hotel in Chongqing. As the woman, surnamed Li, searched for her digital ID to check in—after forgetting her physical ID—her phone unexpectedly connected to the hotel's wireless network. Her boyfriend, also from Chongqing, questioned her on the spot, asking if she had previously been to the hotel with someone else.
Li insisted it was her first time there and was unable to explain the connection. Despite her explanation, the man concluded she had been dishonest and decided to break up with her on the spot.

This test supported Li's claim that the connection was not evidence of past visits, but instead the result of overlapping Wi-Fi credentials.
A cybersecurity expert surnamed Liu explained to the TV station that phones may auto-connect to Wi-Fi networks with identical names and passwords if saved credentials match. He advised users to disable auto-connect features to avoid such confusion and potential security issues. The story triggered widespread discussion online, with many criticizing the ex-boyfriend's reaction.

HC refuses CBI probe into welfare scheme
Chennai: Madras high court has refused to order a CBI probe in a plea moved by YouTuber Savukku Shankar, alleging misappropriation of funds allotted for the Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme (AABCS). A division bench of Justice G R Swaminathan and Justice V Lakshminarayanan disposed of the plea on Tuesday, making it clear that the benefit of the scheme must reach only the sanitation workers and not anyone else. The court passed the order on a plea seeking a CBI probe into the allocation of funds to the Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme (AABCS), through which 100 crore was allotted for the uplift of sanitary workers as entrepreneurs. The court ordered the state to produce copies of the records pertaining to the scheme. According to the petitioner, the state govt allotted 524 crore for a span of seven years for sewerage management through the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) and the department of municipal administration. The state further announced the AABC scheme by allotting 100 crore during 2023-24. Nagpur: Ramtek police busted a flesh trade operating under the guise of a hotel business at Ghotitoka, Ramtek, leading to the rescue of a middle-aged woman. While one of the accused was arrested, the hotel owner, the supposed mastermind, managed to flee. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the hotel where they questioned one Mangesh Karemore (39), a resident of Ramtek, at the reception counter. Karemore said that the hotel is owned by Subhash Savarkar, said police. During the search, police discovered a woman who was allegedly pushed into flesh trade. Police said Karemore and Savarkar lured the woman by promising money, provided rooms for clients, and coordinated transactions via mobile phones. Senior police inspector Ramesh Shete told TOI that the racket functioned like an escort service. "All dealings were done over the phone. Customers were directed to the hotel, which has six rooms behind it. That's where the woman would meet the clients," Shete said. Savarkar was out on bail since 2023 after a conviction in a similar offence. Police believe he fled the scene after getting wind of the raid. 270kg wire theft leads cops to gang that burgled 5 places
Nagpur: A theft of 270 kilograms of electrical wire from a contractor's godown in Lakadganj helped Nagpur crime branch crack open a string of similar offences across the city. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested a 27-year-old man recently and recovered stolen goods and a vehicle worth Rs1.75 lakh. The theft took place on October 18 around 6.30am in a commercial godown on the second floor of a private hospital near Gangabai Ghat Chowk. The complainant, Mangesh Waghmare (52), an electrical contractor, told police that 65 bundles of branded copper wire — totalling 270kg and worth over Rs2.25 lakh — were stolen after unidentified persons broke the door lock and entered the premises. Lakadganj police station filed a complaint but crime branch also launched a parallel probe. Based on technical analysis and local intel, police detained Yogedh alias Lucky Shahu (27), a resident of Dasara Road, Ashok Chowk. During questioning, he admitted to the godown theft and disclosed his involvement in five more similar crimes across the city. According to investigators, Shahu confessed to thefts in the jurisdictions of Sonegaon (1 case), Dhantoli (2 cases), and Sadar (1 case).
