Dravidian University gets government nod for engineering college, courses to begin this year
This marks a significant initiative towards expanding higher education options at the tri-State Kuppam junction.
The initiative is directly supported by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the MLA of Kuppam Assembly constituency since 1989. Dravidian University, which remains a traditional university for language studies and subjects of the humanities division, will hereafter make a strong presence in professional technical education.
As part of the initiative, the engineering college will offer two undergraduate engineering courses, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and CSE with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML) in the first phase, with 60 seats available in each stream.
This arrangement will benefit local students, who can now save time by avoiding travel to longer distances such as Tirupati, Chennai, or Bengaluru to pursue professional studies.
The university authorities thanked the State government and acknowledged the Chief Minister's role in the sanction. 'This long-awaited dream that came true would not only galvanise the institution's academic scenario but also open great avenues for the students of this rural region. It would also enhance the reputation of the university and provide a big scope for students not only from the Kuppam region but from elsewhere in the southern States,' said Mr. Kancharla Srikath, MLC from Kuppam and government chief whip.

P4 initiative: Selection of ‘Margadarshis' is done voluntarily, says A.P. CM
Reiterating that every decision of the Andhra Pradesh government is aimed at the welfare of the poor, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said the selection of 'Margadarshis' (mentors) under P4 initiative is being done voluntarily, without any compulsion. Saying that each individual chooses their own way of serving society, the Chief Minister cited the example of a devotee who recently donated 121 kg of gold worth ₹140 crore to the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala from the earnings of his own company, while requesting that his name remain anonymous. 'Some people contribute in their own way. Yet, true satisfaction and fulfilment do not come from wealth or achievements. They come only from serving and supporting the poor,' he observed. Mr. Naidu emphasised that the 'Margadarshis' (mentors) must not only extend financial support but also provide reassurance to the adopted Bangaru Kutumbalu (golden families). 'I am a Margadarshi too. I have adopted 250 families in my Kuppam constituency and will personally devote time to their well-being,' he said, recalling the legacy of social reformers like Dokka Seethamma. During the event, Mr. Naidu interacted, in virtual mode, with the overseas Telugu NRIs who came forward to adopt poor families, including several from Saudi Arabia. Emotional testimonies came from the beneficiaries, including Pavani from Krishna district, who secured employment at HCL through P4. Symbolically, Mr. Naidu presented an 'Adopt Tree' to families from his Kuppam constituency. The Chief Minister launched the symbolic 'Adopt Tree' in Kuppam, presenting it to beneficiary families. The families expressed gratitude, saying that their lives were improving with the government's support. Highlighting women's empowerment, the Chief Minister said that only the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had consistently created platforms for girls' safety, education, and independence. 'Sanjeevani' Mr. Naidu said a new initiative in public health titled Sanjeevani, a programme designed to protect community health, to be launched in collaboration with the Bill Gates Foundation. 'Service brings true contentment, and help brings fulfilment. With P4, our mission is not just to extend assistance but also to give hope and dignity to every poor family,' he said. Senior officials, P4 Foundation vice-chairman Kutumbarao, and NRT chairman Vemuri Ravi Kumar attended the programme.

CPI(M) demands cancellation of bids for privatisation of 44 departments in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
Demanding the immediate intervention of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan to cancel the bids issued for Expression of Interest (EOI) towards privatisation of 44 departments in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), representatives of the CPI(M) district committee staged a protest at Jagadamba Junction here on Tuesday. Addressing the protesters, CPI(M) district secretary M. Jaggunaidu recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured that VSP would remain in the public sector while announcing the revival package. He pointed out that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister too had promised there would be no privatisation, displaced persons would be given justice, and the revival package was showcased as an achievement of the alliance government within its first year in power. However, Mr. Jaggunaidu alleged that the package was intended to mislead workers and the public, while accelerating the privatisation process. At present, he said, VSP engages nearly 600 local private agencies and contractors, who are set to be replaced by around 50 large firms working under the influence of the Centre and the State government. This, he warned, would deprive officials and permanent employees of any say in operations. He further cautioned that the move would result in downsizing of permanent staff and mass termination of contract workers. Outsourced workers from other States would be appointed instead, without rights or job security. The EOI, he alleged, was designed to benefit big contractors and politically influential groups. VSP, which provides employment to nearly one lakh people directly and indirectly and has contributed about ₹54,000 crore to the Centre and State in taxes and dividends, was being handed over to vested interests, he alleged. CPI(M) district secretariat member B. Ganga Rao came down heavily on TDP State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, and Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat for not opposing the termination of 5,000 contract workers and 2,000 permanent workers in VSP. He termed it a betrayal of the people who had voted them to power. District leaders R.K.S.V. Kumar, P. Mani, B. Jagan, V. Krishna Rao, B. Eswaramma, Subba Rao, P. Pydiraju and U.S.N. Raju also took part in the protest.

Naidu to launch Ratan Tata Innovation Hub in Anantapur on August 20
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub set up at the administration building of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur (JNTU-A), on August 20 (Wednesday). The Chief Minister will virtually inaugurate the hub from Amaravati, said District Collector Vinod Kumar V.. Mr. Vinod Kumar on Tuesday visited the hub and reviewed the arrangements to be made for the event. He asked the officials concerned to complete all the works at the earliest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Chief Minister had earlier proposed setting up Ratan Tata Innovation Hubs to create an atmosphere similar to Silicon Valley to encourage new innovations, start-up's, skill development and employment generation. He said Anantapur was selected for that reason, along with Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmahendravaram, and Tirupati. Mr. Vinod Kumar said people's representatives, officials and industrialists will attend the launch and asked officials to make foolproof arrangements. He asked the Horticulture Department officials to ensure that the trees planted at the hub are properly taken care of. He wanted officials to make arrangements for internet facility and all other basic infrastructure. Joint Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma, District Skill Development Officer Pratap Reddy and others were also present.
