Karnataka BJP demands CM, Home Minister's resignation over drug factory bust in Mysuru
Four men, including a mechanical engineer, were arrested in a raid conducted by Mumbai's Saki Naka police team in Mysuru last Saturday. The team busted a drug manufacturing facility on the outskirts of the city and seized 188 kilograms of mephedrone drugs with an estimated value of Rs 383 crore.
Speaking at a press conference held at BJP's state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, on Tuesday, BJP Yuva Morcha State President and MLA Dheeraj Muniraj has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, holding them morally accountable for the drug manufacturing case uncovered by the Mumbai Police in Mysuru — the home district of the Chief Minister.
Dheeraj Muniraj insisted that the Congress government must take strict action against drug-related activities. He announced that the BJP Yuva Morcha would stage a protest in Mysuru on Wednesday (July 30) against the district administration and the Superintendent of Police.
He said the government, the CM, and the Home Minister must take stern action and ensure that no one else becomes involved in such criminal activities.
'Strict measures should be taken against the officers who collaborated and politicians who supported the racket,' he demanded.
MLA Dheeraj added that the Yuva Morcha would also intensify its anti-drug campaign in Bengaluru and eventually across all districts of Karnataka.
He questioned whether the state government is misusing the police system and running the administration with money from illegal drug trafficking.
'If drug suppliers are based in the constituency of the AICC President, and manufacturing is happening in the home district of the Chief Minister, then what are we even supposed to ask? This sends a terrible message,' he questioned.
The BJYM strongly condemned the drug network and the government's inaction, warning that the youth would fall prey to addiction if the Narcotics Control Bureau failed to act decisively.
He pointed out that in the past year alone, over Rs 1,300 crore worth of drug seizures have been reported.
'Even though Maharashtra Police conducted a drug bust in Kalaburagi, the Karnataka government took no action,' he alleged.
Highlighting the deteriorating state of law enforcement, Dheeraj said, 'The Maharashtra Anti-Narcotics Squad conducted a raid near Mysuru — the CM's home district — and discovered a synthetic drug manufacturing unit operating behind a car service centre. How can this happen without the knowledge of the local police?'
He recalled that since the Congress came to power, the drug menace had worsened, starting with the drug seizure at Mangaluru Port in 2023. He also mentioned the recent arrest of Kalaburagi Block Congress President Lingaraju by the Mumbai Police, implying that his political connections are well-known to the public.
'The drug peddling case in Kalaburagi and now the fact that drugs were being manufactured in the CM's home district and supplied from the AICC President's constituency — this is a blot on Karnataka,' he said.
'What are the police and the narcotics units doing?' he asked, noting that in 2024, CM Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Parameshwara had announced a 'Drug-Free Karnataka' app, which has yielded no results. He also criticised the breakdown of law and order in the state.
He noted that the Mysuru Commissioner had suspended Narasimharaja Police Station Inspector Lakshmikant Talwar in connection with the case. 'How can this happen without the knowledge of the police? The intelligence wing is under the CM's control. If this is the situation in his district, what might be the state of affairs elsewhere in Karnataka?' he questioned.
He expressed concern that drug trafficking and consumption are fuelling a rise in rowdy elements and violence. 'It's unfortunate that drugs are now being manufactured right here,' he said.
BJYM State General Secretary Sandeep Ravi, State Secretary Deepak Kumar, and former Bengaluru Central District President Abhilash Reddy were also present at the press conference.

Amid Oppn walkout, Amit Shah hails PM Modi for giving Pak ‘befitting reply'
Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday attacked the Congress for 'giving away' parts of Kashmir to Pakistan when it was in power and said that the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was committed to ending terrorism and ensuring the return of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Opposition MPs protest in Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, in New Delhi on Wednesday. (ANI PHOTO) Shah was speaking in the Rajya Sabha even as the Opposition walked out in protest over the PM's absence from the Upper House during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor. 'I want to tell the Congress that POK was given by you, and only the BJP government will bring it back,' he said. 'Look at the coincidence that they died of bullet wounds in their heads. After the Pahalgam attacks I was requested by the family members of the killed to shoot the culprits in their heads, and coincidentally their demands have been fulfilled,' Shah said on the killing of the three terrorists. He also accused the Congress of creating the bogey of hindu terror in response to the 26/11 Mumbai attack. 'I proudly declare to the world... Hindus can never be terrorists' Shah said. The Opposition criticised the PM for not being present and speaking in the Rajya Sabha, as he had done a day before in the Lok Sabha. The government said its prerogative was to decide who will reply, but the Opposition dubbed the PM's absence as an 'insult to the House'. As soon as Shah rose to speak, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, said, 'Members had demanded that after 16 hours of discussion, the Prime Minister should be present and address the House…Most of our questions are directed at him. It's not that you (Shah) are not capable of if the PM is present and still chooses not to come, it is an insult to the House.' As the opposition closed ranks and walked out, Shah slammed Kharge. 'He (Kharge) is not allowed to speak on important issues. The BAC decided that the discussion will be for 16 hours, and who will reply will be decided by the government. I know why they are walking out…for all these years, to protect their vote bank, they did not do anything to prevent terrorism,' he said. Congratulating the armed forces for the precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and more recently for Operation Mahadev, which led to the killing of three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that left 26 people dead, Shah slammed the Congress for failing to take a tough stance against terrorism. 'If the Congress had been in power, they would have declared Pakistan innocent. Congress has no moral right to question the BJP on terrorism. Today, we have a Prime Minister who responds with BrahMos missiles, not dossiers,' he said, criticising the Congress for not taking decisive steps against terror operatives. He said the party was opposed to the Prevention of Terrorism Act or POTA, a law passed in Parliament during the BJP rule in 2002 and scrapped it right away when it came to power in 2004. Responding to the Congress's charge about the timing of Operation Mahadev, the minister said he had wanted the terrorist responsible for the 'barbaric killing' of tourists in Pahalgam dead within days of the attack. Taking potshots at the Congress, he said, '...It is the mentality of the Congress party… in front of the whole world (P) Chidambaram proved that they will not be scared to support Pakistan for their vote bank; they will not be scared to save LeT for the sake of the vote bank. I also ask why they were killed today. They should've been killed much before.' Shah said the terror attack was used to deliver a message that Pakistan will not allow Kashmir to become free from terrorism. 'I want to give a message too… Kashmir will be free of terrorism,' he said, pointing out that the PM on April 24 has assured that those responsible for the attack would be punished 'beyond their imagination'. He credited the PM for giving the armed forces the 'operational freedom' to choose the time and the action in response to the Pahalgam attack. Shah also responded to Opposition criticism over US President Donald Trump's repeated assertion that he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and said the pause was in response to the Pakistani DGMO's request. 'During Operation Sindoor, terrorists who were responsible for attacks during the UPA regime were killed,' he said. Shah cited the names of terrorists associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed who were killed during the May 7 operation across nine locations in Pakistan and PoK. Terrorists such as Dawood Ibrahim had fled the country during the Congress regime, he said. Criticising former Union minister P Chidambaram, Shah said, 'Why does Chidambaram need proof? Who is he trying to save—Pakistan or the LeT?' He said the forensic evidence and eyewitness accounts confirmed the involvement, and accused Lashkar's front, The Resistance Front (TRF), for executing the attack. 'Chidambaram questions if Operation Sindoor was decisive. Was (war in) 1965 or 1971 decisive? Then why did terrorism grow under the Congress?' he said. Shah lashed out at the party and said it was under Jawaharlal Nehru's premiership that Indian territory was lost to China. 'After the Indo-China war, Prime Minister Nehru gave away 38,000 square kilometers of Indian territory to China. At that time, the US had suggested that India should be made a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council instead of China. But the Congress government declined, pushing a case for China,' he said.

Evicted families install Goddess statues at Chandola lake, AMC razes awnings over them
Dotted along the freshly-cleared shores of Ahmedabad's Chandola lake, are statues of Dashama, the kuldevi (clan deity) of the Devipujak community. Members of families, evicted from their illegal settlements in May as part of the Chandola Lakefront development project, on Wednesday were rebuilding tents and awnings to shelter the statues from the heat and rain. Despite renting homes in other parts of the city, often far away, these families returned to the sites of their destroyed homes to install the statues and observe a 10-day fast and prayer ritual before immersing the statues in the Sabarmati river. However, as part of its weekly cleanup drive at the lake, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials from the South Zone along with police, to make sure that there is no encroachment on the roughly 4 lakh square metres of land between and around the three water bodies, including the Mota Chandola (Greater) and two Nana Chandola (Lesser) lakes, cleared the awnings and tents set up over the Dashama statues as well. The entire area of Chandola lake is 11 lakh square metres. According to the AMC, it cleared a total of 12,500 residential, commercial and religious structures in two phases of demolitions in May. 'They threw us out of here and we left. But Dashama is here only for 10 days. Why can't they allow her to be here in peace,' said a female former resident who is fasting for all 10 days. As of Wednesday, there were five more days to go before the immersion of the statues. 'They told us to move the statues and then demolished the tents on Wednesday at about 11:30 am,' said Vishnu Dantani, whose mother has set up a statue in the lane behind the Jogani Mata temple on the main road, just 250 metres from Suryanagar police chowki, which was the staging point of the demolition drive. A former resident of the area, Gopal Govind Dantani, 52, who happened to be present during the clean up drive on Wednesday, told the Indian Express, 'We assured the officials that we have moved to a rented accommodation in Bhaipura and we have come only to install the statue of Dashama and pray for 10 days after which we will leave. But they still broke the sheds built over the statues.' Pointing to the edge of the waterline, where his home once stood, Gopal said: 'This was our home. We have been installing the statue here for the last 5 years and this is probably the last time we are doing it here.' Sharing the reason behind installing the statue here, Gopal said, 'Our entire life has been uprooted from here. We are already facing problems in getting rented homes because landlords are asking for a Rs 10,000 deposit because they know we have been evicted and are homeless. We can barely afford it. On top of that, when we asked the Mother Goddess if we could take her to our rented home, the Devi declined, which is why we had to come and install the statue here.' The same refrain was repeated by several other evictees, who claimed that a Bhuwa — an oracle of the Goddess — had consulted the deity on moving out of Chandola lake, but she had allegedly refused to budge on the issue. Widow, Meena Poonam Dantani, 62, who has set up a foot-tall statue of Dashama, dressed in red vestments, said: 'My daughter is fasting for all 10 days and I have set up Dashama here at her insistence but the dabaan (estate) department people came and tore it down. They asked us to remove the statue but we refused. They, however, removed the awning without touching the deity,' said Meena. Standing behind the statue and straightening the creases in the fabric of the vestments, Meena said that she would not let the 'statue budge till the 10 days were over and Dashama was immersed in the river'. 'Not a religious issue' Meanwhile, BC Parmar, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DyMC) of the South Zone told The Indian Express, 'This is not a religious issue but one where we have to make sure that no illegal construction comes up in Chandola Lake again. To make sure that people living there earlier don't return and new people don't try to encroach, we conduct a weekly drive with help of the police. However, we have instructed the teams not to touch the statues of Dashama during this drive.' As Gopal's wife Kavita tried to gather her three children for the evening prayers at their little shrine, another woman on the other side of the road quietly prayed to the Goddess while lighting a lamp in her home shrine with a portrait of the deity. Day 5 of fasting was over. Five more days of the festival left to go.

‘A robust platform to empower young entrepreneurs': CM inaugurates CM YUVA Conclave
CHIEF MINISTER Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday inaugurated the CM YUVA Conclave and Expo-2025 in Lucknow. The CM YUVA Yojna has been launched under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan. Adityanath said that over 68,000 youths have so far received interest-free and collateral-free loans amounting to Rs 2,751 crore under the scheme. The state government is offering 10 per cent margin money assistance to support budding entrepreneurs further. Highlighting the potential of Uttar Pradesh's youths, he said, 'CM YUVA Yojana is not just a financial aid programme, but a robust platform providing mentorship, market access and essential resources to empower young entrepreneurs.' He directed officials to ensure that at least 50 youngsters from each district visit the exhibition so they can gain firsthand knowledge about various government schemes, startup resources and market opportunities. He also inaugurated the exhibition and launched 'UP Mart', a portal for machinery suppliers, aimed at easing access to essential tools and equipment for startups. Also, 17 MoUs were signed in the CM's presence to boost entrepreneurship in the state. Underscoring the unique features of the scheme, Adityanath noted that it addresses the key challenges faced by aspiring entrepreneurs— lack of capital, training, and guidance. 'This is not just a scheme —it's a movement. A golden opportunity for every youth who has a dream but lacks resources,' he said. Addressing university Vice-Chancellors and youths at the CM YUVA Conclave, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed concern over the growing disconnect between academic institutions and society. 'Our institutions are becoming isolated islands, increasingly cut off from the people and government schemes. This disconnect is dangerous,' he said. He pointed out that due to lack of information, many young people fall prey to fraudulent schemes, get burdened by debt and are often left with no choice but to migrate in search of opportunities. 'But now, this cycle will end,' he asserted. The CM highlighted several initiatives launched to revive Uttar Pradesh's traditional industries, including handicrafts, cottage industries, and the MSME sector. 'Today, there is no licensing requirement for the first 1,000 days of starting a new enterprise in the state. We are also providing an insurance cover of ₹5 lakh to support young entrepreneurs,' he said. Reflecting on the 2017 Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra of the BJP, prepared under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that a commitment was made to promote traditional industries through a dedicated scheme. Acting on this, a statewide survey was conducted post-2017, which revealed that every district had unique traditional enterprises. However, due to corruption, lawlessness, and large-scale migration, these industries had nearly collapsed. The CM said that the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme has helped boost Uttar Pradesh's exports from Rs 86,000 crore to over Rs 2 lakh crore. 'Earlier, Chinese products flooded the markets during festivals. Today, locally made ODOP items are finding a place in every household,' he added. He also announced that products from Uttar Pradesh would be prominently featured at an International Trade Show scheduled from September 25 to 29, 2025, at the India Expo Centre in Noida. 'The Buyer-Seller Meet held at this event has become a massive platform for showcasing the state's potential. No one would have imagined such innovation and enterprise from UP just a few years ago. From four lakh participants in the first year to five lakh in the second, the show is pushing forward our vision of taking local products to the global stage,' he said.
