Migrant worker's son and wife beaten by Delhi police; Mamata Banerjee posts video
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee protested against the incident by posting a video on social media.
Launching an attack against the BJP-led Central Government and the ruling party in Delhi, she wrote, "Even a child is not spared from linguistic terrorism."
In the video shared by the Chief Minister, a young man is seen showing injury marks on his young son's body, saying, "Look what they have done to my son. The police beat him and injured his forehead."
He is also heard alleging in the video that all their essential belongings were thrown away. The man's wife also appears in the video. Pointing to her, the man says, "She too was beaten badly."
However, the video has not been independently verified by UNIthand itr also does not have .
Posting the video, the chief minister wrote, 'See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by BJP in the country against the Bengalis! Where are they taking our country now?'
The Trinamool Congress has stepped up its protest following reports of harassment faced by migrant workers from Bengal working in other states. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also warned of a larger movement if harassment of migrant workers is not stopped.
The allegation is that Bengali-speaking workers, suspected of being Bangladeshis, are being detained in BJP-ruled states like Odisha, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh—even after showing documents like Aadhaar and voter ID cards. In such cases, only a 'Police Clearance Certificate' (PCC) seems to secure their release; otherwise, they are being detained.
The harassment of Bengali migrant workers in Delhi and Odisha has already reached the Calcutta High Court. Against this backdrop, the ruling party in West Bengal, Trinamool, has launched a 'language movement' against the BJP starting Sunday.
Tomorow Mamata Banerjee is set to participate in the Nanur Dibas program in Birbhum and will also take part in a march. She is supposed to leave for Birbhum by road on Sunday evening.

Mamata Banerjee ‘reminds' officials they work for the State not ECI
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reminded officials of the State government on Monday (July 28, 2025) that they work for the State Government not the Election Commission of India (ECI), and directed them to ensure that not a single name is removed from the voters list. Speaking at an administrative meeting in Birbhum district, Ms. Banerjee expressed her displeasure that a meeting of BLOs (Booth Level Officers) was conducted by the ECI without keeping her or the Chief Secretary in the loop. 'Remember, only after an election notification is issued does it [the State machinery] come under the Election Commission. Before that it [State machinery] is under the State Government, and after the election it returns to the control of the State Government. Remember, you work under the State government,' the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister's remarks assume significance since they come as the Election Commission of India is conducting a special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters' list in Bihar. Accusing the ECI of working at the behest of the BJP, the Trinamool Congress leadership has said that it will not allow any such exercise in West Bengal. Assembly polls in West Bengal are scheduled for 2026. Blatant interference Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said the Chief Minister's remarks are nothing short of a blatant attempt to interfere in the democratic process and undermine the sanctity of free and fair elections. 'By openly reminding BLOs that they are 'State Government Employees' and warning them against following the ECI's directives, she is indirectly threatening those responsible for ensuring a transparent electoral process,' he added. On July 26, the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, organised a divisional level training session and meeting with election officials in Kolkata. The training session was organised for Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), supervisors and BLOs of several Assembly constituencies. The Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal remained non-committal on when a SIR may be notified for the State and said it was 'not in his jurisdiction.' 'If the SIR happens, the ECI will notify. Whether a SIR will happen, when it will happen, and when it will be declared — these are not in my jurisdiction,' Mr. Agarwal said.

Bandi Sanjay urges Gadkari to release CRIF funds for Telangana road projects
New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi today and urged him to release pending Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) allocations for various road development projects in Telangana, particularly in his Karimnagar parliamentary constituency. During the meeting, Bandi Sanjay submitted proposals amounting to Rs 113 crore under the CRIF, which include key infrastructure works aimed at improving rural connectivity and addressing long-standing transportation issues. Among the proposals submitted are the construction of a high-level bridge over the Maneru River on the Bavupeta-Khazipur road in Kothapalli mandal, and the widening of the Gundlapalli-Pothur road in Ganneruvaram mandal. Additional proposals include the construction of bridges between Chandurthi and Motkuraopet, a bridge up to Kistampalli, and a high-level bridge over the flood canal between Arkandla and Kannapur villages in Shankarapatnam mandal. The Minister also handed over other pending road proposals related to his constituency for immediate consideration. Responding positively, Gadkari assured Bandi Sanjay that an appropriate decision would be taken soon on the release of CRIF funds for Telangana. He appreciated the urgency and said the proposals would be reviewed at the earliest. Bandi Sanjay also raised the issue of the much-delayed Karimnagar–Jagityala road expansion project. He reminded the Union Minister that a detailed proposal for converting the road into a four-lane stretch had already been prepared with an estimated cost of Rs 2,151.35 crore ahead of the last elections. However, the tender process for the project has not begun despite repeated assurances from officials. Taking serious note of the delay, Gadkari immediately called senior officials of the concerned department and sought an explanation. Officials informed him that the project had faced hurdles due to public objections and legal issues, but clarified that all such obstacles have now been cleared and a final report has been submitted to the committee concerned. Gadkari assured that once the committee gives its approval, the tender process will be initiated without delay and the long-pending Karimnagar–Jagityala road expansion work will be launched soon, an official statement said.
