The Bihar State Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to RJD president Lalu Prasad for allegedly disrespecting Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar The Commission has given the former chief minister 15 days to respond, warning that failure to do so could lead to legal proceedings.Talking to PTI, Bihar SC Commission vice-chairman Devendra Kumar said a notice was issued to Lalu Prasad seeking an explanation over the alleged incident."The Commission has given Prasad 15 days to respond and warned that failure to do so could result in action under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act," he added.The controversy erupted after a video, purportedly recorded during Lalu Prasad's 78th birthday celebrations earlier this week, went viral.In the clip, the ailing leader is seen seated on a couch with his feet on a nearby sofa. A supporter then enters the room carrying a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar and places it near Prasad's feet before greeting him. The act drew sharp criticism from political opponents.On Saturday, the BJP accused the RJD chief of insulting the Dalit icon.Addressing a press conference, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, a former state BJP president, played the video, demanding accountability.On Sunday, saffron party workers staged a protest and burnt an effigy of Prasad at Income Tax Golumber here.Responding to the notice, Tejashwi Yadav , leader of the opposition in Bihar Assembly and Lalu Prasad's son, dismissed the move as politically motivated."There have been so many cases of atrocities against Dalits that the Commission has ignored. But since we oppose the BJP, we are being subjected to intimidatory tactics," he said.He further mocked the Commission's process, claiming that a copy of the notice had not yet been officially received."The draft that's doing the rounds contains multiple grammatical errors. We've also learned that the letter has been withdrawn twice for corrections. We'll respond appropriately once the Commission finishes drafting and formally dispatches it," he added.Yadav also took aim at the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, accusing it of using state commissions as platforms for political favoritism ahead of the upcoming assembly elections."In the recently formed commissions, relatives of top NDA leaders-including from JD(U)-have been appointed. Several competent individuals across Bihar were overlooked," he alleged.He further claimed that wives of retired bureaucrats close to the Chief Minister had been accommodated in these commissions, and that children of such officials had set up consultancy firms now working with various government departments."Frankly speaking, the unconscious Chief Minister and his NDA allies have created what I would call a 'Jamai Commission' in Bihar-where sons-in-law, relatives, and children of alliance leaders are being handed posts," Tejashwi said.

New Delhi: With Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh rejecting the Opposition's charge that 'Air Force's hands were tied' during Operation Sindoor, the BJP has launched a scathing attack on senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of lying and damaging India's reputation. Addressing the Parliament during the Operation Sindoor debate, Mr Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, had alleged that the Centre had asked the Indian Air Force not to attack Pakistan's air defence system. "You told our pilots, go and attack and face the air defence system of Pakistan. Meaning, you tied their hands behind their back," he had said. In his address yesterday, the Air Force Chief said political will was one of the key reasons for the success of Operation Sindoor, launched to avenge the cold-blooded murder of 26 innocents in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. "I am being very, very candid here, very open here, because I hear various versions of it. I think, if I tell you something, people will have to believe. And there were no kind of restrictions which were put on us," the Air Force Chief said in a lecture yesterday, during which he also confirmed that six Pakistani aircraft were downed during the operation. "Many people have spoken somewhere. Unfortunately, you know, everybody is speaking about it. So, there have been talks about: Was there any restriction? Were you kept constrained? If there were any constraints, they were self-made. We, the forces, decided what will be our rules of engagement. We, the forces, decided what will be the escalation ladder that we want to ride on. We decided how we want to control the escalation. So, I want to make it very clear, there were no, I repeat, no restrictions on us. Full freedom was given to us to plan and execute," Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said. The Air Force Chief's remarks prompted the BJP to launch a scathing attack on Mr Gandhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Air Chief Marshal's remarks should "put the Congress party to shame". "First, their leaders peddled lies on India's losses whereas we now have quantifiable, detailed and irrefutable proof on the wrath inflicted upon the enemy. Second, they ran another Pak-originated disinfo campaign claiming the Modi Govt put restrictions on the operational capability of our forces. This, too, has been debunked comprehensively," he said. Mr Gandhi had claimed that India lost fighter aircraft because the government did not give a free hand to the forces. Following the Air Force Chief's remarks, senior BJP leader Amit Malviya said there is a "deathly silence" in the Congress and Pakistan media. "With this disclosure, whatever little credibility the Leader of Opposition had is now in tatters, if he had any to begin with," he said.

No Bihar voter to be removed from rolls without notice: Poll body to top court
The Election Commission has filed a fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, stating that no names will be deleted from the list without prior notice to the individual and an opportunity to be heard. The poll body assured that it will strictly adhere to the principles of natural justice in the a matter of policy and in strict adherence to the principles of natural justice, no deletion of any elector's name from the draft electoral roll, published on 1st August 2025, shall be undertaken without issuance of a prior notice to the concerned elector indicating the proposed deletion and the grounds thereof, affording a reasonable opportunity of being heard and furnishing relevant documents, and passing of a reasoned and speaking order by the competent authority," the commission said in its electoral roll revision has run into legal trouble, with the Opposition alleging that the process, undertaken ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections, could disenfranchise lakhs of genuine voters, particularly from marginalised communities, by imposing stringent and arbitrary documentation requirements. They call it a 'vote theft' orchestrated by the BJP. The Election Commission submitted that it is taking all possible measures to ensure no eligible voter is excluded from the electoral roll. It added that a two-tier appeal mechanism is in place to provide every voter with adequate recourse against any adverse action."Even in cases in which any vulnerable elector does not presently possess any documents, he/she would be facilitated in the process of obtaining such documents," the Commission, also noting that, "Out of 7.89 crore electors, over 7.24 crore submitted their enumeration forms".It added that, to facilitate thorough scrutiny of the draft roll from August 1 to September 1, printed and digital copies have been provided to political parties, along with an online facility for the general poll body, in its affidavit, outlined a multi-pronged strategy to maximise voter participation, including extensive awareness campaigns, repeated visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to engage local residents, and other targeted initiatives."To ensure that no eligible elector in Bihar is left behind, awareness campaigns through SMS, meetings, and repeated BLO visits were conducted... To ensure that no temporary migrant from Bihar is excluded, advertisements in Hindi were issued in 246 newspapers...
