Express bus slams into trailer on NSE near Rembau, all 30 passengers survive crash, four with minor injuries
Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 2.52am and dispatched a team from the Rembau station, assisted by teams from Kota and Senawang, Harian Metro reported.
'The accident involved an express bus crashing into the back of a trailer,' a department spokesman was quoted as saying.
Operations commander Mohd Kassim Arippin said there were 30 people on board the bus — 13 men, 16 women, and a child.
'Four adult women sustained minor injuries. All passengers managed to exit the bus on their own before rescuers arrived,' he was quoted as saying.
Both the bus and trailer drivers were reported to be unharmed.
Those injured were given initial treatment at the scene before ambulances arrived.
The operation concluded at 4.05am.

IPOH, Aug 19 — Two men were killed after they were hit by a car while they were refuelling their van by the roadside of Kilometre 84.6 of Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik-Pengkalan Hulu Sunday. Gerik district police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said they received a report at 9.15pm about a crash involving a Nissan Vanette, a Proton Wira and a Proton Preve that led to the death of the two men. 'The van, with a male driver, 45, and two male passengers, 18 and 30, had stopped by the side of the road in the direction from Kuala Kangsar to Gerik as it had run out of fuel. 'While the driver and the 18-year-old passenger were on the right side of the van refuelling it, the Proton Wira, driven by a 19-year-old man carrying two passengers, both 19, moving in the same direction, nearly hit the Proton Preve that was in front of it,' he said in a statement today. The Proton Wira's actions resulted in the Proton Preve, driven by a man, 60, and carrying a woman passenger, 36, hitting the two men by the side of the van and causing severe injuries to both of them. 'The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver died while receiving treatment at Gerik district hospital,' he said, adding that all the other people in all three vehicles were unhurt. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama

Early morning crash on North-South Expressway near Kamunting claims life of egg lorry driver
IPOH, Aug 19 — The driver of a lorry transporting eggs was crushed to death after colliding with the rear of a watermelon-laden lorry at KM198.1 on the North-South Expressway (Plus) northbound near Kamunting early this morning. Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director (Operations), Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, said the department received a call at 5.18am, prompting a team of 16 firefighters to rush to the scene. 'Firefighters carried out rescue operations using telescopic equipment to reach the vehicle and hydraulic cutters to dismantle parts of the lorry,' he said in a statement this morning. He added that the victim, a 32-year-old man, was later extricated and pronounced dead at the scene by the Health Ministry medical team. The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action, with the operation concluding at 6.52am. — Bernama

Widows of Elmina crash victims sue aircraft operator for negligence
In August 2023, a business jet with eight people on board crashed off the Guthrie Corridor Expressway in Bandar Elmina, Selangor, killing 10 including former Pelangai assemblyman Johari Harun and two road users. PETALING JAYA : The wife of former Pelangai assemblyman Johari Harun, who died along with two others in a plane crash near Elmina, Selangor, in August 2023, has filed a negligence suit against the operator of the light aircraft. In a statement of claim filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court last Friday, the plaintiffs named Jet Valet Sdn Bhd and its parent entity, Koperasi Amanah Pelaburan Bhd, as defendants. The plaintiffs are Johari's wife, Maziah Sudin, as well as Tengku Erina Ungku Abdul Malek and Nizatul Akmar Nasir, the spouses of the two other victims, Naim Muaidi and Khairil Azwan Jamaluddin. They are seeking special, general, aggravated and/or exemplary damages, in addition to costs related to their husbands' funerals and bereavement. The aircraft, a Beechcraft Premier 1, was flying from Langkawi to Subang airport. It had been cleared to land at 2.48pm, but crashed two minutes later. The plaintiffs claimed that the defendants breached their duty of care and statutory obligations, including by failing to take adequate steps to ensure that the passengers arrived safely at Subang airport. They alleged that the defendants failed to register the plane with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and did not obtain the required approval for non-scheduled air services or for carrying passengers, as mandated by law. The defendants are also accused of exploiting regulatory grey areas to avoid stringent oversight and necessary approvals. The plaintiffs further alleged that the defendants allowed the pilot to occupy the right seat of the plane, contrary to flight manual requirements, and permitted an unqualified second-in-command to occupy the left seat and perform critical pre-landing checklist duties. The plaintiffs claimed the defendants breached contract by failing to ensure the aircraft's airworthiness and passenger safety, and violated Article 5(1) of the Federal Constitution guaranteeing the right to life. The widows additionally claimed losses related to funeral arrangements for their spouses, including RM5,000 in burial expenses and RM30,000 in bereavement costs for each of the three deceased, as well as loss of dependency to be determined by the court. The statement of claim was filed by Messrs. Tanes, Khoo & Paulraj. In August last year, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau in its final report on the crash found that the primary cause of the plane crash was the inadvertent extension of the lift dump spoilers. It said the action caused a sudden loss of lift, resulting in catastrophic loss of control and the subsequent crash, adding that it believed the co-pilot had committed the fatal error.
