Wagatha row's wildest moments as Rebekah Vardy agrees to pay £1.2m of Coleen Rooney's legal fees
The Wagatha Christie scandal will go down as one of the most infamous pop culture moments in living memory, and it seems like it's finally come to an end. Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy have been at loggerheads for years, with things getting more and more vicious between them.
The drama started in 2019, when I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! runner up Coleen publicly accused Rebekah of leaking stories about her and husband Wayne Rooney to the press for money. Coleen revealed with all of her Instagram fans that she'd had a suspicion about who was selling the tales, and so blocked everyone from viewing her Stories apart from just one person. Sure enough, those stories soon enough ended up in the headlines.
Coleen concluded her sleuthing revelation: "I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them. It's....... Rebekah Vardy's account."
After discovering the leak, Rebekah claimed innocence and took Coleen to court in a bid to sue her for defamation over the public claim. Now, years later, a hearing at The Royal Courts of Justice ruled that Rebekah must pay a staggering £1.2million of Coleen's legal costs after a long and passionate battle, after Rebekah's barrister agreed that Coleen's total legal bill of £1,833,906.89 could be slightly lessened, and "has now been settled at £1,190,000, being £1,125,000 plus interest of £65.000."
Neither Coleen nor Rebekah attended the remote hearing today, but that's not to say they haven't exchanged plenty of barbs over the six-year fight. Here are some of the most outlandish moments of the Wagatha Christie debacle to this date...
Rebekah's alternative theory
Rebekah, the wife of Leicester City player Jamie Vardy, did not exactly take kindly to Coleen's accusations, which she vehemently denied - even suggesting that her account had been hacked. In a post finished off with a broken heart emoji, Rebekah expressed her dismay at the allegations, hitting back: 'If you thought this was happening you could have told me & I could have changed my passwords to see if it stopped.
"Over the years various people have had access to my insta & just this week I found I was following people I didn't know and have never followed myself. I'm not being funny but I don't need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you?"
A seething defamation suit was filed in the summer of 2020, with Rebekah maintaining her innocence. Following the full trial in July 2022, it was ruled that Coleen's claims were 'substantially true', with Rebekah ordered to cough up 90 per cent of Coleen's legal bill.
Wayne's fascination with case
Coleen's hubby Wayne was reportedly fascinated by the ins and outs of his wife's court case - so much so that he even considered swapping the football pitch for law school. In the Disney Plus documentary Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, Coleen's lawyer Jamie Hurworth offers an interesting insight into Wayne's input behind the scenes, sharing: "Once the day was finished we would have a little debrief with Wayne and Coleen.
"I had not dealt with Wayne that much before the trial. But he was just fascinated by the whole thing. Wayne started suggesting, like, legal argument that we should start running." Coleen's lead lawyer Paul Lunt then chipped in: "I'm not saying he is a modern day Columbo but certainly had we have given him a gown and a wig he was bang up for asking a few questions."
Wayne himself admitted: "Yeah, it was interesting because I do like crime documentaries and in particular the different techniques the two barristers used." Coleen on the other hand was less impressed when Wayne contributed to all-important debrief meetings, laughing: "I just said 'Wayne shut up and let David or Paul speak.' He was then going to apply for law school and he had all these plans. But them little moments carried us through."
Wayne opened up again about his interest in the law on the Stick to Football podcast, revealing: "When Coleen had the court case with Rebekah Vardy, I was there with the barrister and the lawyers, and I was saying to the barrister, 'You need to ask this question,'" He continued: "I did apply – it was to Nottingham University - I applied to go in and try and study, but then I did go away. I want to do it to get one of those wigs on!"
Caffè Nero snub
In an interview with The Sun, Rebekah revealed that she'd previously tried to make peace with Coleen by inviting her for a coffee at Caffè Nero, and that the offer still stood. She said: "Let bygones be bygones. You can't hold grudges forever. Two years ago, I suggested we meet for a coffee at Caffè Nero — and that offer still stands. Perhaps now it might need to be over a lot of wine, though.
"But if people really want us to meet up before that, then ITV should get me in that jungle as a special guest. What are they scared of? Confrontation? But isn't that what the show's all about? It's about viewing figures."
Health woes
In her candid doc, Liverpudlian Coleen revealed that the legal war had taken its toll on her physical and mental health. Coleen said: "It caused anxiety and there were lots of tears. I have reactive arthritis. I've had it previously but this situation brought it on a lot more."
According to the NHS, reactive arthritis causes redness and swelling (inflammation) to different joints, often affecting a person's knees, feet, toes, hips and ankles. This illness often develops after suffering from an infection or food poisoning and will usually clear up within a few months.
Remembering the painful time, Coleen recalled: "It hit home just how low I was at that time. My emotions really came out and that made the interview process quite intense, but then it was also a good chance to reflect. I stuck to my guns from beginning to end. My story never changed from day one, and I was telling the truth."
Coleen also discussed how her ordeal had caused her to withdraw, explaining: "It stripped me of my character, and I didn't want to socialise with people. I was completely in my own world. It was not a nice place to be."
Jamie and Wayne tension
Back in 2022, the court heard how Wayne was told by ex-England manager Roy Hodgson and then assistant manager Gary Neville to have a chat with striker Jamie over 'issues regarding his wife'. Taking to the witness box, Wayne revealed: "They asked me, as captain, would I be able to speak to Mr Vardy on issues regarding his wife and I think we all knew that it was an awkward subject. I'd need to speak to Mr Vardy and ask him to speak to his wife and ask him to say to ask his wife to calm down."
Clarifying that he 'carried out that instruction', Wayne added: 'It was an awkward situation for me, and I'm sure it was an awkward situation for Mr Vardy, but I felt it was in the best interests of the team."
Vasectomy reveal
In her Disney+ series, Coleen explained how Wayne's secret vasectomy played a key role in her getting to the bottom of who was leaking stories. Discussing how she came up with the idea to hide all but from Rebekah's account from her Stories came about, Coleen said: "After the birth of every one of my kids, the press are always interested in whether I was ever going to have another baby.
"The big question is always would you like a girl. I always thought I would have a few kids, maybe three at the most and then number four came along and we knew our family was complete. Me and Wayne talked about him having a vasectomy. He said after this baby 'that's it we are not having anymore'. And Wayne went in and got the snip, so I knew for sure we would not be having anymore children."
She added: "I had heard about this procedure where you could choose the gender of your baby but it is something I have never considered doing. I was going to Mexico with the kids for the Easter holidays. So I came up with the idea of doing a story about going to Mexico to find out some information about Gender selection, for me to have a girl. I thought about what information I was going to use. I wanted to do a story with no truth whatsoever."
Sex life swipe
During an interview with The Sun, Rebekah took a savage swipe at Coleen's sex life when discussing what her rival could be eating during her time in the jungle. Not holding back, Rebekah admitted she was looking forward to watching Coleen chow down on 'penis. Or humble pie'.
Then, when asked whether or not a camel testicle could be the worst thing Coleen has ever had in her mouth, Rebekah saucily replied: "I don't know. You have to look at her husband for that one."
Jealousy accusations
In the same interview, Rebekah, who appeared in I'm A Celeb back in 2017, claimed that Coleen had 'always wanted' her life. She said: "We'll be watching avidly. Everyone seems to think I have this massive problem with Coleen going into the jungle. But do you know what? If you want to fan the fire, the flames are going to get higher. I wasn't going to carry on talking about this, I had no intention of talking about it, but she clearly can't let it go."
"I mean, we've done a book, we've done a documentary, we're going into the jungle. What's next - Dancing On Ice? She's following in my footsteps. I think she always wanted my life."
Mayah Riaz, of Mayah Media, previously told the Mirror:"Coleen joining the same show could be perceived as a subtle power move, a reminder that she's still in the spotlight and can command attention on her terms. While I doubt the primary goal is to intimidate Rebekah, the symbolism is clear.
"She's stepping into a space where Rebekah had a controversial stint and is doing so at a time when her own public image is riding high. This move might make Rebekah feel like Coleen is not only winning in the courtroom but also owning the narrative within the entertainment world."

The Maccabees review — a blistering second shot at fame
Eight years ago, the Maccabees bade farewell to their fans after four albums, the final of which went to No 1. Yet here they were, on blistering form at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom, back for a second shot at fame. Do bands genuinely break up any more? Don't blame Oasis. More likely, the Maccabees saw their Noughties indie-rock compatriots the Libertines and the Kooks playing the biggest concerts of their careers to a raft of new young fans and sensed an opportunity. • Read more music reviews, interviews and guides on what to listen to next Certainly, there is affection to spare for the south London quintet, who bowed out at their height for no apparent reason. More importantly, among the older Maccabees fans at Barrowland was a significant contingent of kids. Surprisingly, perhaps, it was specifically songs from the band's 2007 debut album Colour It In that they had come to hear. The opener, Latchmere, an early single, proved the point. A spiky rocker about a south London leisure centre, it sent Barrowland into a frenzy. Rather than hold up their phones, fans were pogoing old-school style and howling back the song's seemingly silly lyrics about the wave machine at the centre's swimming pool. Lego and the post-punky X-Ray were as rapturously received and as chaotically delivered. There is nothing slick about the Maccabees, and perhaps that's the appeal. In an age of Instagram perfection, their low-budget, high-energy indie felt real and refreshing. As ever, the bulk of the band's interaction with the audience came via the guitarist Felix White, now sporting more hair than he did first time round. 'We never thought we'd be stood here again — it's the best feeling in the world,' he said. The frontman Orlando Weeks, with less hair but added moustache, was always the Maccabees' Achilles heel when it came to playing live. He simply can't seem to speak on stage. Previously an obstacle to success, it could become a calling card. When Weeks stepped up to the mic after a riotous Precious Time, the audience fell silent in expectation. 'Eh, cheers …' he said, before an awkward pause. 'All this time and still nothing to say.' Cue the night's loudest laughter. A glorious guest appearance from Nadine Shah on No Kind Words and Kamakura and a spine-tingling Spit It Out, both from 2015's chart-topping Marks To Prove It album, were highlights. Ditto the closer, Pelican, not a hit when it was released in 2012 but now taking off on TikTok.★★★★☆Touring to Aug 24, Follow @timesculture to read the latest reviews

Frankie Bridge details every single cosmetic procedure she's had done in honest post
The Saturdays star Frankie Bridge has opened up about all the tweakments and procedures she had done over the years after a fan begged her to 'share her secrets' Frankie Bridge has revealed all the cosmetic procedures and tweakments she underwent in an honest post shared on social media. The Saturdays star, 36, took part in a Q&A session with her followers on Instagram, and one user asked what tweakments she had done as she begged the singer to 'share her secrets'. Along with a close-up selfie taken in a car, Frankie thanked the user for telling her she 'looks amazing' before adding: "I always feel like this is a hard questions to answer because you get judged for sharing and judged for not being honest. "Ha, I get Botox and in the process of Polynucleotides for under eyes. I tried under eye filler 100 yars ago and didn't like it. "Also nearly passed out like 3 times. Embarrassing. I have a little filler in my lips but started all over again last year. Had it all dissolved and now only have a little. I've had a lip flip a few times. Sometimes I like it." She continued: "Sometimes I promise never again! I'm really bad at being consistent with my appointments. I'm on my last round of Aviclear @harley_st_injectables and I have to say I'm really starting to see the benefits. "Barely any spots. My biggest tip would be look after your skin. I never used to and I'd say that's the biggest change I've made." Her admission comes after she took to social media to share a cryptic message amid speculation of a huge rift between herself and Myleene Klass. She posted on TikTok as she enjoyed her latest getaway. In the clip, the star is filmed at a beach resort miming along to Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter. She was wearing a brown frilly dress in the upload as sh stood on a balcony at a villa. The video was captioned: "Taking 36 years to realise being a people pleaser doesn't please anyone." She went on: "Fad diets are a waste of time. Turns out it's all about balance?! Who knew?! Only you can make yourself happy." And Frankie added: "You can do the hard thing! You've got this." She then added a red love heart emoji to her post. Fans were quick to agree with her comments, letting their feelings be known on the post. She has been involved in a rumoured feud with Myleene and also her former bandmate Rochelle Humes in recent weeks, and ITV reportedly had to step in to ensure the panellists didn't cross paths. Despite the reported rift between Frankie and the ladies, they appeared to shut down the rumours as Rochelle and Frankie have both been interacting with one another on Instagram and showing their support for one another.

YouTube star goes viral for attempt to travel length of River Tay
Popular content creator Ed Pratt is attempting to travel the whole length of the River Tay, but with one rule – he must stay within the boundaries of the river. With more than 550,000 subscribers on YouTube, 447,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 100,000 followers on TikTok, Pratt is known for his "Source to River" videos, where he travels from a river's source all the way to the sea. With his latest attempt, Pratt has challenged himself to make the journey across the River Tay – the longest river in Scotland and the seventh-longest in Britain. Pratt said he was starting the challenge at Ben Oss in the southern Highlands, where he said he believed the source of the river to be. It is widely accepted that Ben Lui – which is adjacent to Ben Oss – is the source of the River Tay. It is unclear whether Pratt misspoke or has been mistaken, although The National has contacted him for clarification. Pratt has set himself only one rule: "In order to make progress I must travel within the bounds of the river." While Pratt must not leave the water in order to complete the challenge successfully, he can be either "in or on the water" – meaning he is allowed to use a boat. Pratt said he set off from Ben Oss on Saturday, where he shared the initial difficulty he was experiencing making his way down a waterfall while carrying a heavy backpack. @mredpratt Source to Sea down Scotland's Longest River! The video then cut to show him slipping, adding that he had to leave the water to drop his backpack off further down the stream before climbing back up again to re-enter the water and continuing with the challenge. "I just realised it was unsafe," he said to the camera. While Pratt was initially wading through the river, the water level has since become deep enough that he is able to paddle with a packraft, an inflatable boat. As of Thursday, he has completed 15 miles out of his 115-mile journey. In a video posted on Thursday morning, Pratt said he was at the far end of Loch Lubhair in Glen Dochart, which the river feeds into and then runs out of. @mredpratt This solo expedition down the River Tay only has one rule; 'in order to make progress I must travel within the bounds of the river.'
