India's growing importance as digital hub highlighted at Wavelength Forum
Organised under the US Department of State's 'CABLES' programme, the forum highlighted the critical role of subsea cables in supporting the global digital economy and the importance of using trusted vendors for construction, maintenance, and repair.
"India accounts for 20 per cent of global internet traffic and needs more subsea cables connected to its shores. More than 70 participants explored strategies to expand India's cable infrastructure, including regulatory reforms, streamlined permitting processes, and enhanced maintenance and repair capacity," read a statement issued by the US Embassy in India.
It mentioned that the participants also exchanged views on protecting subsea cable systems from emerging threats, including cyberattacks and sabotage, underscoring the importance of collective action to safeguard global connectivity.
"The event also showcased the Quad Partnership for Cable Connectivity and Resilience, reaffirming commitments made during the July 1 Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Related discussions centered on the urgent need for resilient and secure cable networks to meet growing demand driven by 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things," the statement added.
Addressing the Forum, US Charge d'Affaires Jorgan Andrews highlighted the importance of cooperation between the United States and India in the sphere.
"The Wavelength Forum underscores the strong US-India partnership on regional infrastructure and highlighted the Quad's shared commitment on protecting and expanding trusted partners. Together, we are working to enhance secure connectivity and support innovation and economic growth across the Indo-Pacific region," he stated.
As the participants reaffirmed their commitment to building secure, resilient digital ecosystems through continued US-India and Quad partnerships, the forum also celebrated collaboration efforts and progress in advancing shared objectives as outlined in the 2025 Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

This marks the 24th round of the Special Representatives' (SR) talks on the India-China boundary question. Yi will hold the talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Jaishankar during his visit.

‘Differences must not become disputes…': S Jaishankar stresses on border peace in talks with China's Wang Yi
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on August 18 stressed on border peace between India and China, stating that 'differences must not become disputes', in talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who landed in New Delhi earlier today. Jaishankar welcomed Wang and his delegation to India, noting that this is the first visit by a Chinese Minister since leaders of the two countries met in Kazan in October 2024. 'This occasion provides us with an opportunity to meet and review our bilateral ties. It is also an approrpriate time to exchange views on the global situation and some issues of mutual interest,' Jainshankar said. Addressing Wang, he acknowledged that India and China have experienced a 'difficult period' but that the goal is to now move ahead with 'mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest'. 'Having seen a difficult period in our relationship, our two nations now seek to move ahead. This requires a candid and constructive approach from both sides. In that endeavour, we must be guided by the three mutuals — mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest. Differences must not become disputes nor competition, conflict,' Jaishankar stated. The minister also noted that Wang will be talking to India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval tomorrow, on August 19, adding, 'You will, of course, be discussing border issues with our Special Representative NSA Ajit Doval tomorrow. This is very important because the basis for any positive momentum in our ties is the ability to jointly maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas. It is also essential that the de-escalation process move forward.' He added that it is 'natural' that international situation be discussed when the world's two largest nations meet,adding, 'We seek a fair, balanced and multipolar world order, including a multipolar Asia. Reform multilateralism is also the call of the day.' 'In the current environment, there is clearly an imperative of maintaining and enhancing stability in the global economy as well. The fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is another major priority. I look forward to our exchange of views…' Jaishankar said. In his meeting with Jaishankar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the country has 'shared confidence to dispel interference, expand cooperation and to consolidate improvement of China-India relations', adding that the two countries can contribute to each others' success. '...We maintained peace and tranquillity in the border areas and resumed the Indian pilgrimage to Mount Gang Renpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso in the Xijang Autonomous Region. TN CM MK Stalin NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Monday joined the chorus against the Election Commission of India (ECI) over concerns of voter deletions and irregularities in electoral roll preparation. He said the press conference held by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday 'raised more questions than it answered' regarding issues highlighted by the opposition INDIA bloc. Posting on X, Stalin wrote, 'The interview by the #CEC is raising more questions than providing answers to the issues highlighted by the #INDIA bloc.' He highlighted seven key concerns: Voter deletions: "How can there be so many deletions of eligible voters when house-to-house enumeration was undertaken?" Low new voter enrolment: "The enrolment of new voters is abnormally low. Were young voters turning 18 on the qualifying date properly enumerated? Has any database been compiled to track this?" Procedural issues: "Procedures under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960—including enquiry and two appeals—may exclude many voters in the forthcoming Bihar elections . Will the ECI address this?" SIR challenges: "Will the ECI consider these practical difficulties while conducting Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in other states?" Deletion of deceased voters: "A request submitted on 17 July 2025 by the DMK to delete the names of deceased voters under the 1 May 2025 notification has not yet been implemented." Aadhaar as proof: "Why isn't Aadhaar accepted as one of the documents to validate a voter's claim?" Transparency and voter-friendliness: "If fair elections are truly the aim of the ECI, why can't it be more transparent and voter-friendly?"
