Mumbai Metro Yellow Line: What route does Mumbai Metro-2A take? What are the stations? Is it connected to other Metros? Where to switch? How to get tickets?
Mumbai Metro Line 2A: A key connector in Mumbai's smooth Metro journey has been the Line 2A from Dahisar to D N Nagar.
The 18.6-km elevated corridor with 17 stations helped ease traffic congestion on one of the busiest routes (New Link Road) of Mumbai from Dahisar (E) to DN Nagar. It provides connectivity between the Western, Central Mumbai and the Northern Mumbai.
Mumbai Metro Line 2A: All about the yellow line
Line 2A (yellow Line) runs from Dahisar East to D.N. Nagar, stretching 18.6 km with 17 elevated stations along the heavy Link Road corridor.
Phase I operations began on 2 April 2022; full service launched on January 19, 2023.
Mumbai Metro-2A: What is the route? What are the stations?
The 17 elevated stations are: Dahisar East, Anand Nagar, Kandarpada, Mandapeshwar, Eksar, Borivali West, Pahadi Eksar, Kandivali West, Dahanukarwadi, Valnai-Meeth Chowky, Malad West, Lower Malad, Pahadi Goregaon, Goregaon West, Oshiwara, Lower Oshiwara, Andheri West (D.N. Nagar interchange).
How many trains does Mumbai Metro-2A operate?
Each trainset runs with 6 coaches, capable of carrying up to 1,800-2,280 passengers.
MMMOCL has deployed 22–28 rakes, currently operating around 253 services daily, each rake doing 12 trips a day.
What are the timings and frequency of Mumbai Metro-2A?
Service begins around 5:25–5:55 AM and runs until 10:30–10:50 PM, depending on station and direction.
Peak-hour frequency: around 7-8 minutes
Off-peak frequency: 10–10.5 minutes
Frequency is expected to improve to 4–5 minutes once more rakes arrive.
How Mumbai Metro 2A saves time?
Line 2A runs along the Western Express Corridor, which is notorious for heavy traffic, especially during peak hours. Roads like Link Road, SV Road, and Western Express Highway can take 1.5 to 2 hours to travel 15–16 km in rush hour. The metro covers the same stretch in about 35–40 minutes, cutting commute time by up to 50-60%.
Connected with Metro Line 1 (at D N Nagar) and Line 7 (at Gundavali).
Seamless switching means travelers from Borivali, Dahisar, Kandivali, or Goregaon can reach the Andheri corridor or Western Express Highway without needing multiple auto/train changes.
Connects major office and commercial hubs like D N Nagar, Goregaon West, Malad, Kandarpada, Dahisar, and is also close to SEEPZ and the Andheri business district.Cuts down multi-modal transfer time (e.g. auto–train–bus) common in daily suburban commuting.
Most stations are within walking distance from major residential and commercial zones.
A commute from Dahisar West to Andheri West: By road: 70–90 minutes in peak hours, by Metro 2A + Line 1: 30–35 minutes
End-to-end ride takes roughly 35-40 minutes; combined with Line 7 to Gundavali, it takes 60 minutes
How Mumbai Metro 2A helps Mumbai?
In a study by IIT Bombay, 81% of riders saved 26 minutes per trip, significantly reducing commute stress. Early ridership reached over 1.1 lakh on opening week, now averaging 1.6–1.8 lakh per day combined with Line 7.
It has led to 25% reduction in vehicular congestion along Link Road and Western Express Highway, plus carbon neutrality via modal shift.
Is Mumbai Metro-2A connected to other Metro lines?
At DN Nagar (Andheri West): Interchange with Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Blue Line) via covered connector.
At Oshiwara / Lower Oshiwara: Link planned to Metro Line 6 (Pink Line) (still under construction).
At Dahisar East: Terminal for both Line 2A and Line 7 (Red), letting you swap directions there.

Bengaluru: Two More Driverless Coaches For Namma Metro's Yellow Line Dispatched From Bengal

Last Updated: Titagarh Rail speeds up delivery of new coaches as Bengaluru inches closer to the Yellow Line's grand August launch. Two more coaches for the Namma Metro's Yellow Line were dispatched on Monday night by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), based in Bengal. These are part of the fourth trainset for the 19.15-km RV Road–Bommasandra stretch. Four more coaches are ready and set to leave on Tuesday. Together, all six coaches will form a complete driverless train. As per Deccan Herald, the dispatch had a slight hiccup due to heavy rainfall in Kolkata. Originally, three coaches were supposed to leave on Monday night, but only two made the journey. When Will the Trainset Reach Bengaluru? The trainset is expected to arrive in Bengaluru within the next two weeks. However, its journey depends on road conditions and traffic, since the coaches are transported on trailers with strict size and speed limits. Once it arrives, the trainset will undergo a two-week testing phase on the Yellow Line before it begins passenger service. Is the Yellow Line Finally Opening? BMRCL is preparing to open the much-awaited Yellow Line in August. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety recently inspected the corridor, and his report is due any day now. The line is likely to open with three trains running every 20 minutes—regardless of peak hours. TRSL is building trains under a sub-contract with China's CRRC Nanjing Puzhen, who secured a Rs 1,578 crore deal for 36 trainsets. Of these, 15 are for the Yellow Line. BMRCL has already received four trains. The fifth trainset is scheduled for dispatch in August, and the sixth will follow by September. All 15 Yellow Line trains are expected to arrive by March 2026. Once that happens, the wait time during peak hours could drop to just five minutes. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
