‘Norway Chess strongest women's event… Anybody can win': World No. 8 Anna Muzychuk
"It's great to have successes, but you always have to go forward and focus on the next tournaments and next goals," Anna said.
With reigning World Champion Ju Wenjin, Indian legend Koneru Humpy, along with Lei Tingjie, Vaishali R and Sarasadat Khademalsharieh in the fray, Anna, who finished as the runner-up last year in the inaugural edition of Norway Chess Women's tournament, expects a strong and unpredictable competition this year.
"I think it's the strongest women's event if we are looking at the ratings. It will be super tough. Each participant has a real chance to win it. I think it will be exciting, and I am really looking forward to it," she further added.
Anna's persistence and relentless passion for the sport came from her upbringing. With her sister Mariya also a chess player, and her parents being coaches, she began making her moves on the board at an exceptionally young age while growing up in Western part of Ukraine.
With Chess being immensely popular, Anna and her sister, Mariya, who is also a grandmaster now, and is also competing at the Austria Grand Prix, had to spend a lot of hours training to keep up with the competition.
"I was born in 1990 when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. It became an independent country a year later, but still all chess traditions were quite developed in our area. We had coaches, tournaments and chess was quite popular. There were so many players from our time from where I grew up and we competed together in various tournaments. Many of us went on to become grandmasters, hence our generation was really strong," Anna said.
But the pursuit of excellence always comes with sacrifices and hard choices, especially in sports. Anna explains the challenges that come with a life in Chess. "In Chess, we can see young players becoming grandmasters at the age of 12. To achieve that, you have to work a lot," Anna said.
"Nowadays, you cannot start too late if you want to be a top level player. Every time, you have to think if you are ready to sacrifice your childhood. Whether you want to be a part of fun activities with other children or work on chess and try to achieve more. It depends on the child and also a lot on the parents because they have to be supportive," she further added.
The Ukrainian international has already achieved every milestone in her career, with multiple world titles in Blitz and Rapid Chess tournaments, and the Grandmaster title among them. But she continues to hope to one day complete the set by winning the Women's World title in classical chess, a title she narrowly missed out in 2017. With her focus on her sporting goal, is Anna now able to find a balance between personal and professional life?
"It's always difficult. We see that some players manage both parts of life. But even if you are not at the very top, it's still hard. Right now, I am not married and do not have kids. So when I do have them, then I will be able to better tell how I am managing both," she said.
In her free time, whatever little she could find, Anna prefers to be with her friends and family, or attend some musical concerts. She also has a keen interest in learning foreign languages, programming, and also recently found a keen interest in hairstyles. "If not for a chess player, maybe I was doing something in the hairstyle industry," she said with a laugh.
Anna has also been quite vocal on equal rights for women over the years and also has been an advocate for growth of female players in chess. With Norway Chess providing equal pay for men and women, Anna feels it will motivate more female players to pick up the sport.
"All the participants are really thankful to the organizers of the Norway Chess for making equal price fund for both men and women. It will give additional motivation to all the girls around the world," she signed off.

What people notice about you first? This 5-second optical illusion test reveals all
A new optical illusion personality test is helping people discover what others notice about them when they first meet. Based on the famous illusion paintings of Ukrainian artist Oleg Shuplyak, the test asks viewers to focus on the first object they spot in a painting. Experts say the object that catches your eye within five seconds can reveal how people perceive you. Optical illusions are known to trick the brain and eyes, and this test uses that principle to uncover aspects of personality and first impressions. "The object you see within 5 seconds is the thing that reveals how people see you," the test explains. If you spot the horse first, the test suggests that people notice your intense eye contact. "They might initially find this a little unsettling, but after speaking to you, they will notice your charming personality and capacity to maintain lasting relationships," it says. If the mysterious musician appears first to you, it indicates that people are likely drawn to your sense of humour. "You have a warm way of greeting people and letting them know that you're always up for some fun, even when you're just saying 'hello,' you can make others smile," the test notes. Those who spot the big head first are seen as especially welcoming. "You emit an aura, which is one-of-a-kind. It encourages people from all walks of life to talk to you because they know that your friendly demeanour will comfort them," the test says. While the test offers insights into first impressions, it emphasises that people need not change themselves to be liked. "You don't need to change yourself for anyone to like you," it adds. The optical illusion test has become popular online as a fun way to explore personality traits. Users are encouraged to share their results and thoughts in the comments, making it both entertaining and reflective.

Former FC Barcelona star receives unwanted attention as manager after awkward interview with club's TV presenter
Former Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Turkey midfielder turned coach Arda Turan has found himself in the headlines for a slightly strange reason, as social media picked up on an awkward pitchside interview following a Shakhtar Donetsk match. Arda Turan in only three months into his role as head coach of Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk. Turan, who joined the Ukrainian giants only a couple of months ago as he looks to find his footing at the managerial level, was seen by cameras looking slightly shifty and uncomfortable while he was being spoken to pitchside by Ukrainian reporter and TV presenter Daria Bondar Savina. This interview followed Shakhtar's victory over Turkish club Besiktas in the second round of UEFA Europa League qualifying at the end of last month, as the team won comfortably 6-2 on aggregate over the team from Turan's homeland. However, their aspirations for a spot in the group stages was stymied in the subsequent final qualifying round, as they lost on penalties to Greek outfit Panathanaikos after a pair of goalless games. Fans wondered whether Arda's awkward nature had to do with his wife Aslihan Dogan, who is a media personality in Turkey and married the footballer in 2018. In fact, to make the situation just a little more awkward, reporter Daria Bondar Savina is also married to someone who plays under Turan at Shakhtar, that being Ukrainian national team centre-back Yeriy Bondar. Nevertheless, video of the interview shows that Arda still answered the questions posed to him in a confident and straightforward manner, perhaps depicting that he is growing into his young career as a manager well thus far. Before his role at Shakhtar, Turan was the manager of Eyupspor, who he guided to the Turkish Super Lig after earning them promotion in his first season in charge. During his playing career, Turan represented Turkey a hundred times on the international stage, showing he is no stranger to the spotlight given his importance to a football-crazed nation for a large part of his career. He served as captain of Turkish giants Galatasaray at the age of 22, before earning a move to La Liga with Atletico Madrid. He played and made a name for himself in Diego Simeone's midfield, before earning a jewel-in-the-crown move to FC Barcelona, where he played alongside names such as Lionel Messi and Neymar during the prime of his career.
