New England Patriots' Pride Month Post Has (Like Clockwork) Triggered A Right-Wing Freak-Out

Yahoo2 days ago

Some conservatives absolutely lost it on Sunday after the New England Patriots posted an image online to mark the first day of Pride Month.

'We celebrate together,' the NFL team captioned a picture showing the LGBTQ+ pride flag on the big screen at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
'Pride is a sin,' commented one user on X, the Elon Musk-owned platform formerly named Twitter.
'We're so sick of this,' said another.
Added a third: 'No we don't. It is Veterans Appreciation Month. I see why Tom Brady left y'all. Disgusting.'

Some claimed to have 'fixed' the image by swapping the pride flag for the Stars and Stripes. Others demanded a boycott of the Patriots, referencing the attempted right-wing cancellation of Bud Light following its partnership with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney.

Defenders of the post, though, said the hatred exhibited in the comments only served to show exactly why Pride Month, which recognizes the LGBTQ+ community, is so important.
The Patriots have yet to respond to the vitriol leveled at the post.
But in 2022, after sharing a similar post celebrating Pride Month, it wrote online: 'Our comment section is monitored and there is no room for hate.'

Philly Pride Organization Told Target Sponsors To Kick Rocks

Philly Pride 365 declined to work with the nationally boycotted retailer, Target. According to Axios, the Philadelphia organization turned down the mega-corporation's sponsorship for its Pride Month Kickoff. Target confirmed the organization rejected its offer, stating 'that they were not entering agreements with corporate entities this year.' Philly Pride 365 has secured multiple sponsors, many of which are local. The organization is working with NRG, Penn Medicine, and the Philadelphia Union. Deciding against working with the brand comes as no surprise to many. Target has been the target of a national boycott since doing away with its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in 2025. While Target hopes to lure patronage with the gesture, other companies are stepping back. Nationwide, 39% of corporations are scaling back external Pride Month engagements this year, according to Gravity Research data. Dangling dollars during Pride may appear supportive, yet the continued elimination of DEI initiatives is even more so. As the company sends a message that inclusion is not a priority, Black, POC, and LGBTQIA organizations have decided to fall back. The company has seen a 7% decrease in sales over the course of the first quarter of 2025. This Pride season, the company has decided not to feature Pride merchandise as it has done in previous years. Similarly, the company has removed many of its Black-owned merchandise from shelves. While many Black businesses have fully supported the boycott, brand influencer Tabitha Brown has received backlash for her seemingly continued support of Target. The author and actress was caught in a firestorm of backlash after encouraging her fans to continue shopping at the retailer. While Brown's message emphasized supporting the remaining Black brands at Target, many took offense at the suggestion. Not to be deterred, the Donna's Recipe founder posted a video doubling down on her statements. Ironically, she believes her support of the conglomerate is a byproduct of uplifting Black people. 'To all the people in the comments and my DMS with your uneducated hate messages…There is no amount of hate and ignorance that is going to stop me from using my platform and my voice to support and uplift small businesses, Black-owned businesses, Black content creators, and Black authors,' Brown said. As many companies drop their commitment to uplifting marginalized communities, those communities are dropping their allegiance to these companies. Not all money is good money, and organizations like Philly Pride 365 are making that abundantly clear. Reform UK to give council Musk-style audit

Reform UK plans to send its Elon Musk-style Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) team into West Northamptonshire Council to assess "wasteful spending". The council has become one of the frontrunners to receive a visit from the party's new audit team, including software engineers, data analysts and forensic auditors. However, a party spokesperson said there was not currently a timetable for the Northamptonshire visit. The authority's Conservative group leader said savings could be achieved "without the gimmicks". Reform UK took 42 of the 76 seats in the council after the local elections on 1 May to run it as a majority. The party took control of eight authorities from the Conservatives - including neighbouring North Northamptonshire - along with Doncaster from Labour and Durham, which was run as a coalition. The idea follows the US Doge, which was launched in January after President Donald Trump took office to cut federal spending. Billionaire Musk was involved but has since left his position spearheading the unit. Reform UK chair Zia Yusuf announced on X that West Northamptonshire and Lancashire were next in line to be visited by the audit team. Reform UK claimed the work would be completed free of charge. The party said the unit would use artificial intelligence and advanced data analysis tools to find any waste. Although the Doge team would be able to give tips and tricks, elected councillors and leadership would decide whether to act on recommendations. A Reform UK party spokesperson said: "The taskforce will identify and eliminate wasteful spending, increasing transparency and ensuring taxpayer money is spent solely on activity that benefits local people." Mark Arnull, Reform UK leader of West Northamptonshire Council, said: "Since forming the council's new political administration we have been working closely with senior officers, building good relationships and meeting regularly as we start to shape our future priorities for communities across West Northants." Daniel Lister, leader of the Tory opposition, said: "We made over £115m in efficiency savings under the last Conservative administration and we were committed to finding even more, so we know savings can be achieved without the gimmicks. "This new so-called 'efficiency unit', parachuted in and styled on the Trump/Musk Doge model in the United States, delivered only a fraction of the promised savings over there, while increasing spending and gutting support for veterans, the homeless and other essential services. Is that really the reform people voted for? "We will be watching closely to ensure the key services our communities rely on are not sacrificed for short-term political theatre." Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening the first cabinet meeting of the new Reform UK-led council was disrupted by clean air campaigners. It was paused after a number of public speakers refused to stop talking when asked by the leader of the council, and cabinet members briefly left the room. Protestors from Clean Air Northampton and 1,000 Voices spoke on an item about a public space protection order to stop car cruising, which was eventually supported by cabinet - and will be implemented for a maximum period of three years with the opportunity to extend. Live updates: Senate GOP set for critical meeting on Trump's ‘big beautiful' bill

Senate Republicans are racing to pass President Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' by July 4, but Elon Musk threw a wrench into those plans when he called the bill a 'disgusting abomination.' Trump and Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) are trying to keep the legislation on track. Trump is holding meetings and calls with key Senate Republicans, while Thune is overseeing the negotiation of changes to win over all sides of his conference. In the House, Republicans and Democrats are holding their respective weekly party meetings this morning. The GOP meeting is likely to include talks of the highly anticipated request the White House sent Tuesday to Congress to claw back $9.4 billion in funding, as well as Musk's vow to 'fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.' A number of administration officials are also set to appear in hearings on the hill, including Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, White House budget director Russell Vought and acting FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau. Elsewhere, Trump is slated to sign another series of executive orders at 2 p.m. EDT. Follow along for live updates below. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
