Village ready as 'Windies' seek revenge against Ireland
It is a village of just a few hundred people, yet it is going to host to one of the major cricket teams in the world.
Magheramason, in County Tyrone, is the home of Bready Cricket Club where the West Indies are seeking revenge against Ireland for a sore that has lasted more than half a century.

The last time the two sides faced off in the north west was back in 1969 at Sion Mills, when Ireland recorded a historic victory over the "Windies" by bowling them out for just 25 runs.
Now, weather-permitting, thousands will attend three T20 matches between the teams on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with many more around the world watching on TV.

Chairman of Bready Cricket Club Norman Allen said the bigger games tend to go to Dublin and Belfast, so for them to get the West Indies was "huge".
"We are determined to show Cricket Ireland that we can put on cricket as good as anybody," he told BBC Radio Foyle's North West Today programme.

Ossie Colhoun, 87, from Sion Mills, was Ireland's wicketkeeper in the clash against the West Indies 56 years ago.
"The ground was completely packed, there was maybe 3,000 people because this was a really big deal to have the West Indies here," he said.
As the local boy, he was tasked with taking the West Indies team to their hotel in Lifford, County Donegal.
This led to speculation that Ossie had taken the team for a drink and that that was why they were off their game the next day.
"When we went over the bar was closed, they got no drink at all," he insisted.
Ossie will be at the match on Saturday to ring the bell.
'Mops and brushes'
Kathryn Rough says the final preparations were stressful but it was worth it [BBC]
The final preparations to get the cricket ground ready have been taking place all week.

Kathryn Rough, the interim general manager for the North West Cricket Union, said it was all hands to the pump.
"We've got people who normally work in finance and people who go out coaching dressing curtains, running around with mops and brushes, everybody is prepared to help," she said.
In addition to the matches, there are corporate events, a kids zone and a food village showcasing local produce.
The half-time entertainment will be Irish and Scottish dancers and bagpipes.
"It is stressful but it is really exciting, we are all really invested," added Kathryn.

However, the biggest pressure is probably being felt by Trevor Hamilton, who is in charge of making sure the ground is in peak condition.

"I would say my sleep at night isn't the same as usual, so it comes with a lot of nerves," he said.
"But I've been a lifelong member of Bready Cricket Club and so it's an immense honour to be hosting Ireland and the West Indies."
Ironically, Bready's cricket colours are similar to the West Indies kit.
That is because the people who set up the club loved the West Indies and were inspired by their culture of cricket.
"For this club to actually be able to host the West Indies is really special for all the cricketers here, but also for the local people to have international sport on their doorstep," added Kathryn Rough.

Jaron 'Boots' Ennis set to relinquish world titles, move up to super welterweight
Jaron "Boots" Ennis' days at welterweight are over. The WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine 147-pound champion will move up to the super welterweight division for his next fight, Ennis' promoter, Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn, revealed to multiple outlets on Thursday afternoon. Advertisement Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) was upgraded to IBF welterweight champion following Terence Crawford's undisputed title victory over Errol Spence Jr. in July 2023, and Crawford's subsequent jump to 154 pounds. Boots made two defenses of the IBF belt in 2024 before stopping Eimantas Stanionis in their welterweight title unification matchup in April in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ennis's performance against Stanionis, a formidable champion in his own right, was nothing short of special. Ennis broke down and knocked out the consensus No. 2 in the division inside six rounds and reiterated what many have long believed — that Ennis' ceiling in the sport is quite high. Although the goal for Ennis was to become undisputed champion at welterweight, it proved too difficult to achieve, with mandatory challengers being ordered and difficulty making fights with the other champions, namely Brian Norman Jr. and Mario Barrios. Advertisement Irish welterweights Paddy Donovan and Lewis Crocker have been ordered to rematch in a final eliminator for the IBF 147-pound belt following the controversial ending to their first fight in March. Donovan was disqualified for flooring Crocker with a right hook after the bell sounded to signal the end of Round 8. The Limerick man, who was well on his way to victory when he was disqualified by referee Marcus McDonnell, blamed the raucous atmosphere from the soldout SSE Arena in Belfast for his failure to hear the bell. It is now likely that the Donovan vs. Crocker rematch will be contested for the vacant IBF welterweight title following Ennis' decision. Although a date hasn't been set for the rematch, Uncrowned understands the fight will take place in late September or early October in Belfast, either at Windsor Park or back at the SSE Arena. Shakhram Giyasov is the No. 1 contender for the WBA welterweight title, while Rolando "Rolly" Romero won the WBA "Regular" belt with an upset victory over Ryan Garcia in May. Romero is expected to be upgraded to full champion and ordered to defend against Giyasov. Advertisement As for Ennis, because he was the WBA "super" champion at welterweight, he has the opportunity to be designated as the mandatory challenger for the WBA at super welterweight. The WBA super welterweight title is currently held by Crawford, while Yoenis Tellez owns the interim title. It is highly unlikely Crawford, who challenges Saul "Canelo" Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight crown in September, ever returns to 154 pounds, and so Ennis could find himself in prime position to face Tellez for the WBA super welterweight title. Hearn also said Ennis would be open to facing Vergil Ortiz Jr. at some point after his 154-pound debut, which will be in August or September.

Mason James, a 2026 WR with a Notre Dame offer, committed to the Washington Huskies
Mason James, a 2026 WR with a Notre Dame offer, committed to the Washington Huskies There have been a few misses for Notre Dame football in the 2026 recruiting cycle, and another one happened on Thursday. Mason James, a 5-foot, 11-inch and 175-pound wide receiver who Notre Dame offered in February, decided that the Washington Huskies is who he will start his collegiate career with. While the Irish did offer him, it didn't seem to move the needle much, as he never set an official visit to see South Bend. The Huskies are getting one of the nation's best receiver prospects, as the 247Sports Composite Rankings has James as the No. 230 overall prospect, No. 36 at his position. Fortunately for Notre Dame, they already have two similar committed players in Dylan Faison and Bubba Frazier, all three of them most likely playing the slot. Now, the Irish await the decision of Kaydon Finley, who will commit on July 4th, Brayden Robinson who has a July 20th commitment date and Devin Fitzgerald who will verbal on July 5th.

Ohio 2026 tight end Preston Fryzel set to make official visit to Notre Dame Notre Dame is set to host multiple tight ends on official visits in the coming weeks as it looks to bolster its 2026 recruiting class. Central Catholic (Toledo, OH) product Preston Fryzel will be visiting campus this Friday through Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder will be in South Bend for the second time since receiving a scholarship offer from the Fighting Irish May 21. Fryzel previously visited Notre Dame unofficially last Tuesday. In addition to ND, Fryzel also visited Miami unofficially earlier this month and officially visited Duke last weekend. He is also set to officially visit Iowa June 20 before making a decision on a school. Fryzel was a key piece in Central Catholic's march to the state title game last season. He earned all-state honorable mention from the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association after hauling in 43 catches for 807 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games. On3's Mike Singer has confidence that Notre Dame will land him, as he's put in a prediction for the Irish today (see below). Tight end has been a focus on the recruiting trail for the Irish. Fryzel is one of four tight ends still on ND's board. Waukee (Waukee, IA) four-star product Evan Jacobson recently rescheduled his official visit from June 20 to June 13, while Great Bend (Great Bend, KS) four-star Ian Premer and Lexington (Mansfield, OH) four-star Brayden Fogle are set for a midweek visits next week.
