ICC Initiative On Afghanistan Women: Key Engagement Opportunities During Next 2 Global Meets
"In line with ICC's initiative for supporting the displaced women cricketers of Afghan descent, the players will receive key engagement opportunities at ICC events, including the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 and the T20 World Cup next year in England, as well as through high-performance initiatives and domestic playing opportunities," the ICC stated in a release.
"The initiative is being advanced through a collaborative effort led by the ICC under the supervision of Deputy Chair Mr Imran Khwaja, in collaboration with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA)," it further stated.
While the ICC release didn't specify what kind of "engagement opportunities" will be provided to them during the two global events, it has been learnt that Afghan women cricketers will get a chance to speak to cricketers and attend workshops conducted by international coaches under the aegis of ICC.
The meaning of "domestic opportunities" is still very sketchy as most of these cricketers live in Australia.
It could be a case of integrating them into the lower tier of the cricket system and give them an opportunity to play grade cricket Down Under.

Sourav Ganguly is 'okay' with India playing Pakistan in Asia Cup: 'Terrorism must not happen, but sports must go on'
The 2025 Asia Cup will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28, with India and Pakistan placed in the same group and scheduled to face each other on September 14 in Dubai. India begin their campaign against UAE on September 10, with their group consisting of Pakistan, UAE and Oman, while Group B features Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly reacted to India playing Pakistan in the Asia Cup(PTI) As per the ACC's broadcaster agreement, India and Pakistan are to be clubbed in the same group, with another guaranteed face-off in the Super Four stage and the possibility of a third meeting if both reach the final. Although BCCI is the designated host of the event, the tournament will be held in the UAE due to the mutual agreement between India and Pakistan to play at neutral venues until 2027, in light of the ongoing diplomatic tensions. The decision to proceed with the India-Pakistan fixtures has drawn criticism from sections of Indian fans following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Many former cricketers had expressed their opposition to India playing against Pakistan in the wake of the attack. Reacting to the concerns, however, former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly stated he has no concern with the two teams meeting on the field. "I am okay. The sport must go on. At the same time Pahalgam should not happen, but the sport must go on. Terrorism must not happen; it needs to be stopped. India took a strong stance towards terrorism... Sport needs to be played," Ganguly told ANI. WCL match cancelled The decision to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup comes just days after India's World Championship of Legends (WCL) team pulled out of a fixture against Pakistan Champions. The Champions side, captained by Yuvraj Singh and comprising several former India players, pulled out of the game hours before it was scheduled. The Asia Cup will feature 19 matches across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with the ACC allowing 17-member squads. 'This year marks yet another milestone in ACC's journey… This will be Asia Cup at its finest,' said ACC president Mohsin Naqvi. All 25 member nations approved the venue during a meeting on July 24.

BCCI To SACK Morne Morkel, Ryan Ten Doeschate; Gautam Gambhir To Continue: Report
Last Updated: BCCI is reportedly planning to SACK Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate after the 2025 Asia Cup, while Gautam Gambhir is likely to continue. India's struggles in the ongoing 2024-25 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy have reportedly put bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate's role in the cricket board's firing line. According to The Telegraph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is 'hell-bent' on letting go of both of them after the 2025 Asia Cup and before India's next Test series against the West Indies in October. The report said the BCCI's call would be independent of India's performance in the remaining two Tests (the fourth, at Old Trafford, was underway at the time of writing) in the series. The BCCI is said to believe that Morkel hasn't help improve any bowler in the team, while also scrutinising the 'exact function' of Doeschate, who stood in as coach when Gambhir went home briefly before the series. Head coach Gautam Gambhir asked for South African Morkel and Dutch ten Doeschate to be included in his support staff when he was appointed last year, alongside Mumbai's Abhishek Nayar. Gambhir had worked with Morkel at Lucknow Super Giants and Nayar and ten Doeschate at Kolkata Knight Riders. Nayar, designated as an assistant coach, was let go in the aftermath of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. Before the conclusion of the Old Trafford Test, the coaching team had won four of 13 Tests. The report added that the BCCI is ready to give Gambhir a longer rope to avoid a bigger change at the helm for a team in transition. It further said chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and East's representative Shiv Sundar Das, who are with the team in England, are also under the BCCI's cross-hairs. Kuldeep Yadav case a big issue The report claimed that there has been a 'difference in opinion' between the decision makers over some team selections, with spinner Kuldeep Yadav's absence being on top of the list. Considered a match-winner, Kuldeep hasn't played a single Test in the series so far, with the management prefering batting depth and all-rounders. 'The coaches always talk of balance but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences," the report cited a source as saying. view comments First Published: July 27, 2025, 20:55 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Pahalgam should not happen, but the sport must go on': Sourav Ganguly reacts to India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup
With India and Pakistan scheduled to lock horns in the Asia Cup on September 14, there have been widespread criticism of that decision from all corners of the country due to the recent tensions between the two countries following the events of the Pahalgam terror attack in April. The tensions spilled onto the cricket field as well when the India Champions refused to play the Pakistan Champions team in the World League of Champions last week. However, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly said on Sunday that while terrorism needs to be stopped, sports must go on. 'I am okay. The sport must go on. At the same time Pahalgam should not happen, but the sport must go on. Terrorism must not happen; it needs to be stopped. India took a strong stance towards terrorism… Sport needs to be played,' Ganguly said as per a video by ANI. #WATCH | Kolkata: On India-Pakistan placed in the same group in the Asia Cup, former Indian cricketer Saurav Ganguly says, "I am okay. The marquee match between India and Pakistan — both placed in Group A — will be played on September 14. If the two sides advance to the Super 4s and win the rest of their matches, their next meeting will be in the final. This will be the first match between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 civilians were killed. Subsequently, Operation Sindoor was conducted by the Indian armed forces in Pakistan against terror emanating from that country. The two sides were slated to meet in the Women's Asia Cup for emerging players last month. However, the BCCI withdrew from the tournament in the aftermath of the terror attacks and the consequent escalation in hostilities. The Indian cricket board even threatened the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to shift their annual meeting from Dhaka to another country. It is learnt that they warned other countries not to attend the meeting in the Bangladeshi capital. However, with the BCCI officials and Sri Lanka Cricket chiefs attending the meeting through video conferencing earlier this week, the schedule for the September event was finalised.
